What a beautiful and magnificent talented group of gentleman.Their harmony is unmatched . They are not Past Their Prime. The Passion is very Prevalent and their print is forever dwelling in our lives. They are Unshakeable PERIOD 😊😅🎉😂❤
The Dells came from an era where R and B truly began. There were so many different individual artists and groups, both male and female that put the work in for the R and B artists today. They gave 100% at every show. To the song writers, producers and musicians, I give a round of applause. Because they were as much a part of the beginning as the artists themselves. The artists brought everything together on stage. I am so proud and thankful that I had the honor of growing up during that time. Hearing the songs that shaped lives. And even produced them too. But for me, it was a magical time. In the home I grew up in, the music genres were varied. And I am very thankful for that also. From R and B, to gospel, to jazz, to the standards, to folk and rock. Music. I pay tribute to those that have entertained me then and still do today. To those that have past on. But left their music to remember them and those times when we were listening and remembering what we were doing when the music was playing. And to my favorite group of all time, The Whispers. Thank you.
Much respect to The Temptations with David Ruffin's soulful voice, but Marvin Junior started it all. Virtually every lead singer in the 60's and 70's had the strong and raspy Marvin Junior sound. He was the true king of soul.
and we are talking a 5 decade old band...back in 2000...and still better than most groups today 2019...begore TP....there was MARVIN JUNIOR...I feel his voice when he sings....TGE MIGHTY DELL'S TRUE LEGEND DESERVE A LOT MORE RESPECT THAN THEY GET!!!!
You know what I loved about these guys? They stuck together literally from the beginning without changing personnel, just like the Four Tops. Once Johnny joined them in 1960, that was it. The same five from then on. I've always had a great love, admiration, and respect for vocal groups that stay together their entire career. Imagine if The Tempts had stayed together. Maybe Paul wouldn't have killed himself. Imagine what it would have been like to see the 5 original Tempts singing together into their 50's and 60's. Maybe things would have turned out differently for David and Eddie. When Smokey and Teddy Pendergrass and Diana Ross and Eugene Record and Phillipe Wynne left their respective groups, they were just never the same. Once someone leaves a group, the bond is broken. It's watered down, diluted. Big props to The Dells and The Four Tops and The Manhattans and groups that stuck together and stood the test of time.
oldschoolsinger So true, Its hard for successful groups to stay together long periods of time because of ego's or money disputes and so on. Marvin Junior could have easily left the group and had a solo career.
People often don't see the value that their brothers bring to the unit if they themselves are leading most of the songs... They think they can just find 3 other guys to chime in with backing vocals and keep the majority of the money for themselves.. This demonstrates a lack of love for your brothers and a lack of insight as to what your fan base has actually fallen in love with.. Usually the lead singer listens to a producer who wants to use him to elevate his own career by delivering the guy to a different label.. and getting a big record deal.. that producer is just looking for a quick payday with no real ability to supply the gifted artist with the quality of material to sustain him.. you then see a precipitous fall off by the artist who misjudged his situation with his former band mates.. he didn't think about ° who was writing the songs ° who was producing the music ° who was backing him up ° the fact that his fans loved the group as a whole.
I'm just so disappointed that I never had the chance to see them live. Man how I love this song and all their others. But this one just has a special place in my heart.
I am James F Jr... This was one of the most Beautiful Amazing records of.all time. I was incarcerated for a Decade and we had Musical entertainment from other inmates. The elder groups from Philly mostly compile of Muslims were the best Groups. They Sounded just like the groups who recorded these Hits. This Song lead by Mansur American name Leonard Golphin. Made me think of my Girl and life . They also sang Hey Love. I thought I was actually hearing the actual recordings. I practiced with them. But, was actually 🤔 shy to sing in front of large crowds. Ok.. that story may not grab you all the right way..but, the Truth is these Lifers had talent that was unbelievable. We had Rock Bands, Country, Metal Bands, All sort of music and great Artists. Now I listen to this Song and just ingest the talent these men actually had. Marvin, made Teddy Pendergrass and all of them soun amateurish. God Bless their Families Rest in Peace gentleman who passed on.
Marvin has lost almost 100 pounds due to his diabetes and this was close to the end of his life a few shows after this he had to depend on something to lean on but remarkably the power to that voice sounded like it was supplied by anatomic reactor. For those of you who are wondering after Marvin passed away that was it! They decided to not go out again without him so they folded and finally got some relaxation and a lot more golf. Johnny passed away not long after and that solidified 60 years of love from these amazing gentleman who met in high school!
My God the young ones know this music, And that is great. In my home, My daughters and my grands know good music. Jazz , Blues R and B . And Must of all SOUL.
I absolutely love this group for all time! I think that's why I married my husband, he reminded me of Junior--his talking voice was just like Jr's singing voice. However,....after while that got to be a 'bit much' everyday....all day! (smiles)
@ Ms. LaTanya Junior, There will never be another group like the Dells with Your father and Johnnie Carter singing these timeless classics. I've seen the Dells many times times before and have never had a bad show! RIP Marvin Junior and Johnnie Carter you guys gave us so many great songs!
Thanks for posting this I've seen The Dells many times and never have they once disappointed me, they are one best class acts ever.true SOULFULLLLL and PROFESSIONAL. Thanks Again.
THANK YOU carvcom1 for posting this wonderful video. My wife and I were at that event in Philadelphia and we followed them since the late 1960's. I wish that all groups were like the DELLS. Over 50 years all members stayed together. The true ambassadors of R&B, Soul, Rock and etc., since the death of the two lead singers Marvin Junior (05/29/2013) and Johnny Carter (08/21/2009) they will always be missed. We have a group called the Universal African Dance and Drum Ensemble and we us the MIGHTY DELLS as one of our legendary role-models. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR OLD-SCHOOL LEGENDARY GROUPS, who many of them are in their late 60's, 70's and 80's. MUCH LOVE TO THE DELLS FOREVER. Brother Robert Dickerson

Gamble and Huff wanted him but he was in a contract with Chess Records. Marvin Junior's vocal style certainly influenced the younger similar sounding TEDDY PENDERGRASS who admitted he was a fan of the Dells; moreover, Pendergrass complimented Marvin Junior as a beautiful singer on Soul Train. The old schoolers encouraged each other even in competition. It's why we still love the REAL artists so much.
Rather watch the Dells live onstage past their prime than ANY new act in their prime today! Real class act. Dells 4ever.
Exactly!! That IS real music. My wedding song is going to Always together.
Like smokey
And the miracles sang I second that emotion!
What a beautiful and magnificent talented group of gentleman.Their harmony is unmatched . They are not Past Their Prime. The Passion is very Prevalent and their print is forever dwelling in our lives. They are Unshakeable PERIOD 😊😅🎉😂❤
The dells was the best group ever. R. I. P. Marvin Junior . No one could ever come close 😭 to you. Love you brother.

Definitely, then druhill covered this song greatly
FACTS
Juniors voice was still strong in 2000. WOW!!
No word can express the Marvin Junior's singing voice. Hearing that voice is refreshing and timeless. It will always remain in my thoughts.
Marvin Junior's voice is always a rich baritone!! On this segment Marvin has lost weight and the other lead singer has gained weight, wow 😲!!
Love this song. Really learn to appreciate the baritone voice 🎶.

Marvin Junior smh his voice stood out in all of their songs. VERY talented group right here. R.I.P to all who have passed
I was at this performance. The vid does it no justice. It sounded even better in person. I was shocked they still sounded that good. Amazing!
Groups or bands like this can only be seen live. No videos do them justice.
Marvin "Iron Throat" Junior's pipes stayed strong!
I'm just so disappointed that I never had the chance to see them live. Man how I love this song and all their others. But this one just has a special place in my heart.
R.I.P. Marvin Thanks for the memories and great music...
Amazing that these guys still have it for their age! A damn good performance for some guys in their late 60's!
Try 80’s!
