It may go down this way but it may go sideways. Have a few interviews such as 3 rounds for one job. Everything checked off. Then never hear from them. Until you hear through the grapevine your current (now former) boss had sabotaged it for you and was bragging about it to others. Reason I don't use linkedin anymore. Too many stalkers either one bad boss or ex friend or ex gf may torpedo your current job or future ones as "revenge". Nothing is finalized until you sign the paperwork. Same in Real Estate, it only matters when the loan and escrow cleared and when you get the keys its when its official. It could fall throw, not followup, could confuse you with someone else, you don't know what HR is doing.
