On this episode I removed the old sleeper interior panels in preparation for the updated interior I'm having made by the @daycabcompany. I also finally got around to removing the old rusty roof panel and replaced it with a new fiberglass roof cap #peterbilt #fibertech #littlebylittle

As a piece of advice: clean all the rust from the structure, use some convertors, epoxy primer, some paint and after that just use windshield glue to fix the cap. Will seal perfectly, its durable and easy to apply. But you must fix the glue.
To insolate the sleeper and the cabin use some car audio sound deadening in two layers: firs one: some rubber and aluminium type such as stp or less expensive brands and the second one from closed cell foam type. Thicker the better for both layers. Hope you will read and consider the advice. I can help you with any details.
Awsome job. I can't imagine the struggle to do all that work in the cold.

7 lights and horn delete, excellent choice !....might want to do the windshields while the visor is off, cheap and fairly easy. The cold will make the gaskets harder to work with though. " It's better than mud" : )....Keep up the good work!

Again kudos for doing this alone and in the elements, always impressed. Your correct now is the time to insulate not only for the cold but helps a/c if you have it plus noise. Also if you're running a cb you could run 18ft of coaxial cable over the roofs or relocate to a single antenna of the back of the sleeper. ( cleans up the mirrors). Merry Christmas. 👍

Just fell on your channel 2 days ago. Since then I've watched every episode of you restoring that amazing Peterbilt. Well TwinSticks, I been watching y'all since you started this one. So very long ago. And, I've seen you do all yer own work, on pretty much everything, except the gearbox rebuild. You did what you could afford, when you could afford. So, doing this roof cap, was saved until the more important and sometimes pricier things were done and out of the way. Right? So doing the cap now, was done now, because it was time and affordable, I would guess. It is called "Little By Little," right? And 'little by little,' some of us are just getting more and more jealous. Great job on getting the sleeper cleared out, fabulous job on taking the roof off. You could have called Bestop and asked if they had a convertible top for Pete's, probably not, but it would be worth the laugh, I mean try. Keep the vids coming Sir. Greetings from Ontario finally. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Best wishes for you and the family!

I have a suggestion for your sleeper. You've mentioned in earlier video's that you are going to be using this truck for recreation, pulling your camper and such. Why not add some side windows to the sleeper, remove the bed and stick in a couple captains chairs or maybe a nice bench seat out of an SUV. It would make it nicer for family traveling. Just my opinion. That being said, you have done a fantastic job bringing this rig back to life. Keep On Trucking!

Good work, TwinSticks! It would be nice if you had a friend close by that you could have went in together on your old truck restorations and shared in both the cost and work. Many times two hands (and heads too) are better than one and definitely faster. But you are getting it done by yourself anyway. Also, maybe a couple of scaffolds or a folding ladder with a bridge on either of them would be useful for working on the high spots so that you did not have to put that wooden thing on the hood. Keep up the good work!

It's probably too late, but I'd fix all the metal rust issues around the roof top, especially the visor panel, before putting the roof back on... It looked like there was some rust going on on the passenger side window frame.. Just like the roof replacement.. Do it now, and don't wait until later. It'll only more difficult later. Good luck

I'm glad that fit without any trouble! You are probably going to have to take the sleeper off to get the huck bolts in on the back side. If you go back to the video where you were fixing the roof before the sleeper was on, you will find my comment telling you to quit wasting time patching the roof and to replace it before you went any farther. I worked in a truck repair shop for a few years and was wondering why you putting all that stuff on just so you have to take it off again. I admire your tenacity to keep at it though. I know you were just excited to get her rolling. If it were mine, I would go ahead and get all that frame work for the roof and overhead console cleaned up and painted before you put the roof on. Way easier to take care of the rust now than when the lid is on! Can't wait for the finished product though, gonna be a nice ride for sure!

That is a early 379 sleeper. Easy way to tell.. 359 had big door on the right side farther forward and didnt have a closet on the right side. I drive a 1981 359 and 1 thing I would suggest since your taking the interior out is put a bigger hole in the sleeper and cab. It would allow you to move you seat into the bunk. It gets your knees away from the dash.

Stuart Schultz ya I’m aware the 359d has double doors but I have seen a few 1987 359’s with the same sleeper as this with a single door leading me to think that there are a few late late model 59’s with this style of sleeper. 10-4 on the big hole - would sure be nice to do 👍
