  • Going over some of the things you can do in the tuning of drop D and using 'Hey Man, Nice Shot' by Filter as an example of the dorian mode and how you can use scale intervals.

    Lyrics:
    I wish I would've met you
    Now it's a little late
    What you could've taught me
I could have saved some face
They think that your early ending
    Was all wrong
For the most part they're right
But look how they all got strong
That's why I say hey man, nice shot
    What a good shot man
    A man
    Has gun
    Hey man
    Have fun
    Nice shot
    Now that the smoke's gone
And the air is all clear
    Those who were right there
Got a new kind of fear
You'd fight and you were right
But they were just too strong
They'd stick it in your face
And let you smell what they consider wrong
That's why I say hey man, nice shot
    What a good shot man
    A man
    Has gun
    Hey man
    Have fun
    Nice shot
I wish I would have met you
I wish I would have met you
    I'd say
    Nice shot

Thanks for explaining this slowly in terms of the scales. I struggle with learning scales on guitar, so this was real helpful.

Hey Sean! Long time viewer, first time commenter. I love these videos they really are helpful. I was just wondering if you could perhaps do a video on a John Denver-esque approach to playing/composing if it wouldn't be too much trouble for you. Anywho, keep up the great work, take care!

Use a proco Rat pedal and you can nail that tone. I recommend the jhs pack rat. It’s 9 modes of RAT distortion that has been replicated to perfection. There is wave cannon mod that is setting 8 that is a milder version of the rat that is just excellent.

I can't figure out the right way to play Filter's Thanks Bro from Songs in the Key of X. Both covers on youtube are wrong, they just don't sound right. The only tab on the internet is wrong too. Can you figure this song out and do a post please? I've pretty much exhausted all other ways I can think of to figure out this song. HELP.

how much time will it take for my fingers to start shredding........I started playing at the age of 17 and I practice mostly for 3 hours everyday.
so please kindly help me know will I be able to achieve that stage or I will just be an asshole for the rest of my life

You know if that's your goal, and you practice 3 hours a day, I know you'll be shredding within a year. Obviously there different levels of shredding, but since that's a pretty clear goal just fire up that metronome and work on scales and fretboard spanning arpeggios using alternate picking. You'll be killing it in no time!

Left Behind by Slipknot has a very interesting riff I can't understand the theory behind it. You should do a video on that. Also alot of Slipknot riffs are weird like that but anyways, great video, man!

Instead of saying #6, just say natural 6 in Dorian. b6 in natural minor. :)
