  • From Firenze Santa Maria Novella to Moorfields, Liverpool!
Liverpool has been host to many metro rail innovations over the years, from the pioneering Liverpool overhead railway to the LMS class 503/4 units that set the configurations for metro trains that are still used today.
More recently, Merseyrail has been replacing its reliable (but increasingly elderly) fleet of 1970s class 507/8 third rail EMUs with new Stadler class 777s.
I wasn't that taken with them at first, but actually they look really modern and stylish. They are just somewhat let down by seats that can best be described as "Lutheran". Not much fun for the longer journeys possible on the network!
Here are some videos of the new trains I took whilst waiting at Moorfields for my train to Chester.
The video starts on Ormskirk Northern line, as it heads towards the former (and large) Liverpool Exchange station. Now trains drop down into tunnels under the city of Liverpool, with Moorfields being a large interchange (with labyrinthine transfer corridors between the platforms).
One class 507 puts in an appearance!
