A lot of credit cards have amazing point perks, so if you get one of those cards and put all your expenses on it that will really help too. I found direct flights to Papeete from LA (last year) on Air France for $800-$1200/person. This wasn’t first class, but air France is really nice and even my (insanely tall) husband was comfortable. The flight from Papeete to Bora Bora was a couple hundred per person. Buy alcohol bottles at the airport , or in town, the hotels are a rip off (of course). One of our hotels charged $15 for a rum and pineapple but a shot of rum was $3 and a pineapple juice was $2! So the over the water bungalow is a must however the 4 Seasons isn’t. In fact I wouldn’t recommend it. It isn’t on Bora Bora it’s off of it on an island, which isn’t needed to see anything spectacular and it makes doing things on bora bora harder. If you want an Island all to your hotel I recommend Le Taha’a. We put our entire wedding on the points CC and used the points for the airplane ticket and for some hotels. Booking through the credit card saved us money on hotels we paid cash for also. So we stayed in the over water bungalows for 10 nights, on three islands (moorea-my fav, tahaa, and B.B. which means several more plane rides) for 6k. And we ate out a lot and had several pricey excursions. So, if B.B. is a bucket list for you, and you can’t use points and such, they have many hotels that are smaller, local, hotels that are much more affordable. They have grocery stores with French foods like baguettes, cheeses and meats and you can get food from them and keep it in your hotel. Also, before you go, research French Polynesia and it’s amazing islands. Bora Bora is beautiful and is the most well known and therefore is the most expensive. I did not find it to be the most beautiful and I saw all of the island. There are also cruises that take you to a bunch of islands. But yeah- it isn’t as expensive as people act.
