"A eight-year reign of dominance has come to an end. The old Shishangaan male lion, or “Xihamham” as he is known, was severely injured and will likely die from his injuries. The Trichardt male lions grew in confidence over the last week, which resulted in this morning's fight over territory in the northern parts of the @singita_ concession. The king died fighting-an honorable death.
His legendary status will live on."
History: There were only two remaining 'old' Shishangaan males: Xihamham and his brother. They are no longer the pride males of the Shishangaan pride but are still known as the 'Shishangaan males'. They were born around 2008-2009 (depending on the litter). They were seven brothers in their nomadic days in 2013 (now only this one is still alive). The two now control Mananga and Mountain Pride. This Mananga pride is estimated to be 19 strong when all together, according to a head count that was done recently, which included six lionesses and thirteen sub-adults and cubs. The Kumana males took over the Shishangaan pride, but only one remains now. He was having some competition from a younger male known as the Maputo male. After a few fights, they landed up forming a coalition and are still dominant over the Shishangaan pride. Two members of the Shishangaan male coalition, one of which was Xihamham, have been seen on a number of occasions with the Mananga pride feeding and have on occasion been seen wandering the 'Singita Concession' as a pair, ensuring no intruders enter their northern territory.
Xihamham, or "Old Grumpy," was the father of Casper, the White Lion, and his brothers.
The king is dead. Long live the new kings, Casper and his Shish brothers!

GAME DRIVE ETIQUETTE - RULES (SANParks):

- Avoid driving into vegetation, as this could damage the environment or kill small animals
- During night drives, never shine a spotlight directly in animals’ eyes
- Never make noise to get animals to move, stand up or otherwise react for pictures
- Respect the rangers, and always comply with their requests or instructions

It's never easy to led such a long life with majesty and dignity
Xihamham Shishangaan, dominant and indomitable even at the age of 14 roaring to deter the Trichardts coalition of multiple off of his land and away from his family to the last hour knowing exactly well that he is outnumbered and doing so until his last breath and for over a decade in the fiercely competitive and land limited life in the wild. I am overwhelmed with admiration and sadness. Even at the age of 14 still looking so powerful and handsome I would watch videos of him not being able to take my eyes off of him in admiration. Another huge loss for the mother Earth and gain for Afrika’s savannah’s Havensdom.

How old this video , how did he die
On march 28th 2 of the Trichardt Males were heard roaring in response to the roars of the Old Shishangaan who was only 2km away and sensed them and warned them. He knew them because he met them before and he knew how many of them because he could count their roars. He died on the 31st after the battle with them. This clearly allowed plenty of time for his family to escape since both Trichardt males found nothing and were seen return south two days later. He protected his families for now by paying with his life. I don’t know how many members in his family now but the cubs you can see in the later video could be almost subadults and the Mananga pride was a mega pride. Hopefully someone tracts them and makes a video so we could see them now. The mountain pride with whom I heard his brother spends time had to my knowledge seven cubs who should also be much bigger now too. Lets hope his brother and the prides (those lionesses are tough) can keep a low profile and teach subadults to hunt until the subadults (girls and boys) are ready to make it on their own. The fact that there is only one king left marking the territory may not deter a coalition but may deter younger not as confident nomadic intruders. Lets hope for the best.

@@edkiely2712 We come to know their names, their parents, their natal pride, their siblings, their dominant pride and the many tragedies and dynamics happening in their lives. We respect them. Their life is hard and the mighty Kings among them give their all to protect their cubs and mothers, their legacy. It's the end of an era and safety for them when something like this happens and there is only one King left.

What sad news🥲it's going to be hard for his brother, the Mananga and the Mountain prides. Xihamham left protecting his territory and his pride, he patrolled even alone despite his old injury, he gave his all but he couldn't do better...I hope his brother💞 and some Lionesses💞 and Sub adults/little ones💞 will go far Trichard males to give their last offspring a better chance.

Yup I agree, it’s gonna be hard though because if I’m not mistaken the trichard males is larger then some know, they are a coalition of 5 males, xihamham was only caught by the younger 2, the leader and second in command weren’t around, I hope the prides and his brother move off & away for safety, r.I.p. king 👑

Yeah, there is no retirement home for wild lions. In sanctuary or in zoo he could live even 20 years. But it would be different kind of life. He would eat every day meat and have female company, but no freedom . I wonder what he would choose if he had a choice : to die protecting his pride and territory or to live few more years in captivity ?
Based on his regal and powerful, and dominant demeanor and successes every day of his life and until the last day, this leo king would have clearly choose freedom in the wild even if by some miracle he could have been asked back all the way when he was in his leo mom’s womb.

Great question ,, I think all animals prefer to live in the wild and be free as intended... these lions should not be in zoo's or sanctuaries unless it's of a different nature other than that they should all live free roam round large wildness areas and hunt naturally ,,, I think as a male lion he would choose to live in the wild ...

I did not know too much about this very handsome King and when I heard who his son was then I know now,, to hear what happened to him truly made me so sad ..when I heard about the 2 trichardt males attacking him and about his injuries I knew there was no such thing as being resilient on the injuries ... he sustained life threatening injuries ...I'm glad he is no longer suffering in excruciating pain and he passed naturally from his injuries...may this beautiful King live pain free and Roar in Lion Heaven Xihamham RIP Beautiful King 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿

It's very disrespectful and morbid to announce death on a living breathing being. People have it too easy to have butchered ,and cooked meals served on a platter and take all for granted. Lions deserve the chance of hope for healing until their time is up. They have battle for everything to survive every day of every year of their lives. It's not healthy to curse them and use them for profit.

Any carcass is picked over and nothing but bones left most of the times. Vultures and such. It is the circle of life.
His mighty lion soul is no longer bound by his body though, so he loses nothing. He lived his life as a lion to the very fullest and his soul can move on to other challenges. No energy is ever destroyed and certainly not his!
