Nice video. Actually I would like to give a bit of advice in addition, some extra steps to make it even better. Especially because this method only works for static noise, but not as good for low or high pitched noises. Since the human voice has a limited bandwidth there are some extra tricks you can do. It's important to follow these steps in order. First we add a highpass filter of around 100-200hz to remove any low frequency sound and rumble. Next we add a lowpass filter at 6-10khz to remove any high pitched noises. If you want to do any equalizing, now it's also time to do it. After that we do the same noise reduction trick shown i this video, but keep it more on the safe side. The reason is because next we are going to add a so called noise gate. The combination really removes a lot of noise. Also keep the settings of the noise gate on the safe side. An additional step is to add a compressor to make your voice sound more clear. But be careful otherwise you'll sound like one of these annoying radio stations. @Justin. You're free to use this information in another video if you like. I have been recording audio for years and I have found that this method is close to bullet proof. All these things are possible in Audacity. I just made a sort of profile/preset and basically always use it with any voice audio clip.
Thanks Piet - great advise to take this further for everyone. Pinned this comment. We covered a similar process a while back in a video titled how to remove wind noise where we showed how using the high and low pass filters work well to help clean up previously unusable audio :)

It seems there's been a slight change, unless perhaps you're on a version that's as old as the one in the video. So it is now: Edit > Preferences > Libraries > FFmpeg Library: Download. Thanks for the tutorial. :)
Thank you for all your helpful videos!! I have a small question how can we avoid these issues while filming? like there are any camera setup to reduce the air conditioners background? thanks again!
I have been trying to use this to remove loud background music from some videos i have with no luck. Is there a setting or a method for doing this? Thanks
Can a conventionally recorded song be re-recorded at a lower frequency to create a strange effect? If so, how low could it go? I'm a writer and have a reason for this question. Thanks.
OMG, you made this so easy, my ASMR was pretty good providing that I recorded at night when everyone was asleep. But now I can record any time of day and I no longer have to wait for everyone to go to bed to make my videos. I did a mock test with my loud air conditioner in the background and I did a whisper test and all you could hear was just my ASMR whispering!! I am Sooooo happy! The VO mic sounds perfect every time, but I discovered that my A/C adapter that is plugged into my camera is causing a hum (for which I am going to order ferrite cores for the cables to help with that) and I will plug it into a separate outlet from now on so it is by itself. Also, the HDMI cable plugged into the camera for an external monitor also causes a hum (in which I unplugged but I would love to see what I am doing if need be). Grrrr. I just figured this all out last night. So, with your help, and Audacity, I will be able to reduce the noise on my host segments until my other solutions are in place. Wish me luck!

The Audacity link does not work for my Mac at all --- I also noticed that you have done this tutorial w/o Adobe Premiere Pro CC. Does that mean that Adobe doesn't have that function?
Omgggg God bless you so much!! I have been stressing about my vidoes. I used the noise removal on my video editing software but it was not enough. My first 3 youtube videos had noise in them but thanks to you, I don't have to worry about it going forward. You are a life saver!!

Namaste Justin Bhai, Seenu from India, Firstly thanks a lot for your kind tips on different motivational stuff... I have been watching you for many months and following your tips for my screen-casting. I use Camtasia 9 and Audacity for my Software tutorial podcasts (I train people on Python software) which involves screen recording and annotations. Since I live in an area which is surrounded by traffic, churches, mosques, schools, factories; my videos have been spoiled many times as I am about to finish them there is some kind of noise from the above said sources which gives me a spike in the sound file which cannot be flatten. It is taking many takes to finish video and in the due course lot of frustration I am experiencing. I tried going to a remote hill side to record a screen cast but wind is my enemy as it is directly blowing into my Yeti Blue mike, lack of enough power source etc problems. It started as a hiccup and in no time it became my nightmare. I can't afford building a soundproof booth or hiring a studio room. I've been thinking on this for months and years on how to overcome this problem as recording a screen cast with all the background noises will not sound professional. If it is just a bird chirping sound, that's fine..but it is street hawker shouts, vehicle horn sounds, regular prayer sounds from churches& mosques, near by residents' talk, neighbor's baby crying what not. I tried many things known to me, but nothing worked out. I am completely stalled without recording a single podcast for months crying and whining. Do you have any idea to better my situation and sound professional. I have already seen many people overtaking me with meager facilities. At least I have a good voice and confidence but lack of motivation with the above problem is stopping me. Some regular sounds from dawn to dusk: 5am: Azan from a nearby mosque..5 times daily 6am: Prayer bells from all of the homes around me.. 8am: Hawker shouts like this....Brinjal, Tomato, Coriander.. reads loudly 15 items without a breathe.. clickhere to see. 9am: Old scrap paper buyer: Highest decibel.. click here, 10am: Furniture repair-man 12 - 3pm: Juice vendor..check here 4pm: Ice Cream vendor..click-here 5pm: Kids from school...etc etc At one point I tried to make fun of those sounds quoting them contextually as and when those are heard.. But I thought to make it more professional. So I used to wait till the midnight to see everything/everybody/every creature settled..losing sleep, next day I feel day time fatigue, lack of concentration, depression etc Another problem is about language, since I am from India and not being a native speaker of English, I take little time to search for the right word when doing a screen cast even though I do not have mother tongue influence. Even my confidence level should be bettered as I have seen in many videos. Few inputs on what I am using for my podcasts.. 1. Blue Yeti Mike for voice 2. Camtasia 9 for screen recording 3. Audacity for audio 4. Lenovo E470 thinkpad windows-7 64bit, 16 GB RAM, 1TB SSD etc. If I use Audacity to reduce the noise, at the same point of audio disturbance my recorded voice also there, and its will be spoilt if I reduce the noise.........please help me Guru. Thanks for the tips Bhai
Man Justin, I have this footage mine, it has a lot of background noise including people who have screamed right outside my home and the lavalier mic mine has taken all that noise. How must I remove that in audacity? Can that be done? The part where someone has screamed or yelled something which the mic caught. Also, the audio sure gets very crispy and thinner after putting noise reduction, anything to be done for that measures too?
Hey *@Justin Brown - Primal Video.* My fellow Aussie. Mate, I was wondering, how do you create the flashing text boxes that you always seem to have on your videos? I love it. What program do you use to create that? I would love to create a similar effect on my vids.
Hi, I've used this video successfully before but now as i had to install the software again i do not have the option that we are looking for to search and locate the ffmpeg inside audacity. Do you have a new video on the updated version please?
Hey ya, I use kinemaster on my tablet and having issues with bad weather. It doesn't have background reducer and I can't find another app to get rid without paying for another subscription. Any suggestions for android?
I’m not editing any yet. How Do I import audio? Do I have to take audio only out from video?? I can’t find any photos and video in my computer to transfer into audacity…
Thanks alot! And what I like the most is that you can install Audacity even if you don't have admin permission as they have an option to download as a .zip file that is ready to being used!
Justin, Thanks so much for all of your helpful videos. I'm having a problem installing the FFMpeg plugin. Mac OS is telling me that the developer cannot be identified and I can go no further. Can you offer any assistance?
Thank you so much lad, been working on a project for my channel and got some audio with some bad static in the background so I really appreciate the help, keep up the good work and thanks for all the other tutorials you've helped me with, have a good day
Hi … thank you very much for this video and all videos you have done … I have a question about this video... Do you think it is better to record the voice directly to Audacity while I am recording my video?
Depends on the type of video you're making, but I'd suggest wherever possible you're recording directly into the camera to keep it all in sync and to save some steps while editing
Thank you for this, when i did this it made popping mouth sounds and stuff more noticable ahhh is there a way ahead of time to prevent all these weird little noises from happening?
Thank you! I'm having difficulty with this. When I open the file on Audacity there isn't a library. So, I am not able to add my video to the program. I tried downloading another version of Audacity. No libray there. Can you help?
hi!!i just want to ask.. i tried all the process..but my own voice also degraded..i mean. i can barely hear my own voice.. i dont use mini mic. hope you answer my question..
Can you let me know how to do it on a smartphone? To start, I only have my phone to record edit for my channel and I've been struggling to get my audio clear regards of the number of collar mics I've used. Please help 🙏
I’m not sure if this is for zoom meetings. My neighbor below me works for a company that is not going back into work until October! I have lived in this building 16 years and I’m a very quiet person and it’s only me, but he has been on zoom meetings and people ask what is that noise? I’m not going to stop living my life the way I have lived it. If I want to do laundry that morning, I’m going to. He has complained about noise coming from my apartment as well as other neighbors. Personally I think he should know how to mute background noise or either go somewhere where he can have his zoom meetings. We are not in complete lockdown.
Hello please i record Asmr eating show but my environment is noisy and whenever i try to clear the background noise, it clears the eating sounds too. Please help me out. How do i clear the background noise and maintain the eating sounds.
so this only works if the background noise has a section where its only the background noise.... my audio has the background noise and me talking all through out, what can i do for that ?
omg thank you so much for this! I honestly thought I was never going to be able to figure out how to remove the humming from my computer and this tutorial literally saved me! Thank you so so so sooooo much!!!!!!!!!!
For some reason when I try to download the ffmpeg the website states it not responding. I have tried multiple browsers and still the same thing. What’s happening here? Can you help please?
Question: does it remove multiple background noise and sound effects I know most video game trailers and movies has this theme music or song playing in the background which is not gonna be released on any music streaming services nor is it ever going to be the official song to be released at all i found one song but it has those background noise.
i have a converstion i want to cleen up sadly it was recoreded next to a tv and it has a movie over powering alot of it is there anyway you can help me
Hi , but how do I remove the actual background noises while I am talking. I see that that one you showed here is more of when you’re not talking so your voice is not in it. Will it still work?
The second they make a tv that completely blocks background music from movies I’ll be the first one to purchase one. It is absolutely ridiculous that the music blocks the dialogue. Do you know if they make such a television?

Thanks again, Justin. This vid was very helpful, as Part 3 of our current yoga series (Awakening Gentle Awareness) had airconditioner background noise. It's very cold at the moment in Adelaide, and our reverse cycle air conditioner was on, so Jen could keep warm during her class. Jen had it off for Part 2 of the series, but accidentally left it on for Part 3. The parallels between this and astrophotography noise reduction are profound.

Hey *@Justin Brown - Primal Video.* My fellow Aussie. Mate, I was wondering, how do you create the flashing text boxes that you always seem to have on your videos? I love it. What program do you use to create that? I would love to create a similar effect on my vids.
They were created using Adobe After Effects 😊
@@PrimalVideo. Any chance you can create a video on how to do that using Adobe After Effects?
You are life saver. Thanks so much
Wow, that's amazing! You're welcome Jasmine! 😊
Hi, I've used this video successfully before but now as i had to install the software again i do not have the option that we are looking for to search and locate the ffmpeg inside audacity. Do you have a new video on the updated version please?
Oh, actually I've found it, it's under the edit menupoint
Thank you so much for the info!
As a beginner in recording and editing with Audacity I learned a lot from this! And this helped me with my recordings!
Happy to hear that Poliana - So glad it helped 😃 👍

Hey ya, I use kinemaster on my tablet and having issues with bad weather. It doesn't have background reducer and I can't find another app to get rid without paying for another subscription. Any suggestions for android?
does this work w background music as well?
I’m not editing any yet. How Do I import audio? Do I have to take audio only out from video??
I can’t find any photos and video in my computer to transfer into audacity…
Thanks alot!
And what I like the most is that you can install Audacity even if you don't have admin permission as they have an option to download as a .zip file that is ready to being used!
No problem!

Justin,
Thanks so much for all of your helpful videos. I'm having a problem installing the FFMpeg plugin. Mac OS is telling me that the developer cannot be identified and I can go no further. Can you offer any assistance?
Thank you so much lad, been working on a project for my channel and got some audio with some bad static in the background so I really appreciate the help, keep up the good work and thanks for all the other tutorials you've helped me with, have a good day
Awesome, definetly more tutorials coming right up! I'm happy I was able to help to fix your problem w/ the audio. Enjoy your day 😃
Hello ! Can i use Audacity or any other app to repair sound from my old concert videos ? There is so much ear rape.
Does this work with breathing too ? Like would it cancel out your breathing 😭
Thank you for this, when i did this it made popping mouth sounds and stuff more noticable ahhh is there a way ahead of time to prevent all these weird little noises from happening?
Great video. What camera are you using?
Thanks
Thanks Ofer! I'm using the Panasonic GH5!
Thank you! I'm having difficulty with this. When I open the file on Audacity there isn't a library. So, I am not able to add my video to the program. I tried downloading another version of Audacity. No libray there. Can you help?
Hey, sorry to hear about your experience. It's best to raise your concern with their support team 👍
@@PrimalVideo thank you! I figured it out.

This program is a lifesaver! Thanks for the information.
I tried to import an mp3 but it failed and the box said "malformed MP3". do you have solution for that problem? thanks
this was verrry helpful thank you
That's all right - glad were able to help 🙏
hey I just want to say thank you finally something that actually works 😅

This video helped me so much because I have a sensitive mic and a loud computer. Thanks!
so this only works if the background noise has a section where its only the background noise.... my audio has the background noise and me talking all through out, what can i do for that ?
Hey Yanna! Just try to find any possible pause between where you are speaking and hopefully that should work 👍
This one really helped! Thanks
Nice, you're welcome! 👍
omg thank you so much for this!

Thank you, sir! I’ll try out these techniques this afternoon.
You're welcome - hope it worked well! 👍
Is this method useful with transcription websites???
Question: does it remove multiple background noise and sound effects
I know most video game trailers and movies has this theme music or song playing in the background which is not gonna be released on any music streaming services
nor is it ever going to be the official song to be released at all i found one song but it has those background noise.
How about I use low cut filter in premiere pro? Will that work, Justin?
Thank you Justin, you always provide good suggestions for small channel like me.
You're welcome, Juleen!
i have a converstion i want to cleen up sadly it was recoreded next to a tv and it has a movie over powering alot of it is there anyway you can help me

You're welcome - glad we're able to help 😊 - Hazel, PV Team
Now I have a background noise like thumbing noise right next to me as I was film a song at a LIVE show. Now could I remove that?
Hi , but how do I remove the actual background noises while I am talking. I see that that one you showed here is more of when you’re not talking so your voice is not in it. Will it still work?
Hey Salmah, I was just showing that the noise was gone by showing the empty audio but it does remove the background noise while you're talking 👍
The second they make a tv that completely blocks background music from movies I’ll be the first one to purchase one. It is absolutely ridiculous that the music blocks the dialogue. Do you know if they make such a television?
If my mic is bad while there be will be noise no matter how i record?
Is there a version for phones or tablets?? 🙏🏼
