The very definition of run of the mill . Fan of the original and the later LB 5 X variants . These and the mentioned Scorpion are great for planetary militia vehicles . And I'm a Liao player even i dont bother with the Liao version
Pretty much the uses we have for either tank, just depends on the escort missions speed of travel. A slow escort mission and the Scorpion works fine, and the Vedette is more useful for a fast escort mission.
I actually prefer the Vedette to the Scorpion. The Scorpion is usually quite easily dealt with but the Vedette has that little bit more armour and often that higher movement modifier while still just having that AC/5. This led to the Scorpions often being easy targets of opportunity while to the Vedettes just weren't worth shooting at. They also have a easier time getting in good firing positions. I don't like the AC/2 version because if you're plinking away with the AC/2, you're wasting your SRM and vice versa. The medium laser one is very liao... as in "at least better than nothing". I mostly play succession wars so I haven't used the others. If I'm able to modify the Vedette, I usually remove 0.5 ton of armour and 0.5 ton MG ammo to add a 1 ton infantry bay. This has become my favourite infantry transport if I'm able to use it. Alternatively, you can also throw out the machine gun and add 0.5 ton of armour but I like keeping it.
The Vedette can survive slightly longer than a Scorpion tank on the battlefield. But both can be a speed bump against determined mechs, but they make cheap fire support vehicles. I can get behind having an IFV version of the Vedette for transportation.
My son and I got so tired of UAC's sucking so bad that we made a house rule for them. Single rate fire: standard damage and ammo usage Double rate fire: +50% rounded up damage, all to one location, double ammo usage. Zero chance of jamming. This works very well at our table. None of is overuse UAC's but at least we use them SOMETIMES. Previously, we flat out refused to use them.
I consider the LB-X variant the best Vedette. Most of my games with Vedette is in a lance form. And I take advantage of the 5 cruising MP to use the reverse gear keeping my frontal armor point at the main line. I do not like the energy variants as when the engine gets hit the vehicle is unable to keep fighting. The WoB variant is best used with smoke rounds in the SRM's. Thank you for your hails. But we know WoB WoB are the baddies. FYI, WoB uses smoke rounds for the Purifiers. Memetic armor and heavy smoke has a to hit of +1 BA infantry, +3 memetic un-moving and +2 from heavy smoke.
The LBX cannon on a vehicle is an excellent choice when its available for vehicles, something about the crit hunting abilities makes them very useful. WOB are the bad guys for sure, but its fun to play them in games when you put aside the politics of their agenda 😁 Smoke rounds are a useful addition to a game that gets overlooked most of the time wanting damage dealing.
@@Helcarexe26 Ya totally agree with you on smoke being overlooked. They are able to be used going back to 3025. The longer you play the game you start to notice things like smoke. And start to look at mechs and tanks defiantly. The best thing about the larger LB 10-X is its the best Anti-Air weapon the innersphere has and doubles vs hover craft with cluster and mechs with solid shot. The Blake Protectorate (BP) used standard 4 formations. You would have one or two of these tanks protecting a Schiltron with a mech and squad of BA.
Vedettes make sense from a defensive stand point, offensively not so much. I see them as probably the average PDF unit, you would be likely to see the mas Opfor on the table.
The engine in the Vedette weights as much as the Scorpion tank 😳 The Vedette has about 2 more tons of armor. If one had a Vedette and wanted to drop it speed one pip. They could add more weapons (LRM or SRM) and armor
BV wise 3 Scorpions beat 2 Vedettes, Cbill wise 2 Scorps beat 1 Vedette. Not saying the Vedette is bad, just that it's fairly expensive for what you get both BV and particularly C-bill wise.
The Scorpion is a better choice for PDF units due as you stated. In the Succession Wars most units are not really speedy like Vedette and the Scorpion fits in nicely
Only worth it if this is what is provided by the factories and you can't get something else. Sometimes you just can't buy something else because they're not selling. *shrug*
Lol you and your infernos sounds like me and my plasma rifles , stealth armour , TAGs and Arrow IVs . Not a fan of RACs too Davion and on average you're wasting half your ammo .
Burning down the house with the Infernal rounds is a favorite game tactic 👍😁👍 Plasma rifles are a good system when they become available in the game. RAC are great when used on vehicles and with enough ammo to back them up.

I really like the LBX cannons on the vehicles for added usefulness of getting crits or motive hits. They work really well as you stated for PDF units.
Liao seems to have made up for it by making the Ferro versions with the Ultra and LB.
I generally use them in escort missions. Not a great tank, but it is fast and can respond quickly to a threat. Something the Scorpion can't really do.

The issue with the ultra cersion is Ultra permanent jam and no backup weapon.
That's true 👍 with the RAC
@@Helcarexe26 Thisnis why I am glad most video games let ultras unjam.

Yeah I'm not overly fond of them for what little they bring to the table other than being cheap
Even a RAC2 would be a decent main weapon for this and you could add a further 2xSRM2's as well.
The added range would be good for hitting vehicles and you could even add another ton of SRM ammo for more options when firing
Is all the extra weight vs a scorpion in the engine? Or does it get some extra armor too?

A local PDF might have a contract to receive a shipment of Vedettes,. A Mercenary unit might have some due to salvage and repaired.
@@Helcarexe26 perfectly acceptable too.
