Yes it is well worth the time and money invested. If I were to build a force of infantry and vehicles there would be at least four of them to transport the platoons to the front.
I bought 2 GHQ Ospreys specifically to use as proxy Karnovs because I think the size looks better. I also bought a couple of SuperCobras for Proxy Warriors as escorts. The BattleTech VTOLS look a bit small next to the Vehicles & Mechs. Sadly I had to move recently & haven't had a chance to paint up or use them yet.
The US Airforce has the AC-130 Angel of Death. They put a 105 howitzer in a cargo plan and fir downward. This feels a lot like the same thing if they did it with the V-22 Osprey.
There are a couple variants that put a 100 rated fusion engine in to fit 16 tons of dakka. That's an AC-20 with 10 shots or a full sized Thumper artillery piece with 20 shots. Those are, in fact, the couple of variants in question. Kind of wasteful of the free heatsinks, but it's hard to say no at a full sized artillery tube moving 8/12 if you do on-map artillery.
@@danbuman8422 The core rules are pretty much unchanged for the last 30 years other than minor tweaks. They keep adding rulebooks that are optional for game play. So a group can play with as few or more rules as they want for their enjoyment
Mod 5, 4 for 10 hexes, 1 for Vtol. Surprised you didn't mention the AC 20 Karnov from 3039 Unabridged. Drops down to an 8/12 with a Fusion engine to carry an AC20 and 2 tons of ammo, and the related Thumper Karnov a page after.
To be honest I didn't continue with reading about the different variations of the Karnov due to getting wrapped up with the MG version. Then waffling on with the AC/2 and AC/5 versions.
That's a interesting build option for long and short range. I'd have a couple tons of ammo for the SRM for direct fire and Infernal anti- infantry or mech
Have you ever thought of building a Puff the Magic Dragon, based on the Cobra VTOL? As stock, this has a ML, 2xAMS and 10 tons of cargo space. Remove the cargo space and install, either in the left or right side,a RAC2 with either 1 ton of ammo and 1 ton of armour,or 2 tons of ammo. Speed is 11/17 stock.
Worth every BV and money you sink into it. :)
Karnov love

That's what I really like about the GHQ miniatures for using in Btech. They scale well with the other stuff that you pickup from Ironwind

That's a very interesting idea and we do enjoy taking onboad artillery. No place to hide against Puff the Magic artillery Dragon
Some good info there
Thanks Nick
Interesting discussion Rusty. Battle tech looks like a cool game
Lots of cool looking miniatures and the rules really haven't changed in 30 years
@@Helcarexe26 That's rare to have a game system last that long and stick to a core rules set.

Oh Year! lol
Great transporters buddy 😍
Thank you Sir
The Karnov looks pretty cool Rusty!...Bill
Thanks Bill, it's similar in design as the Osprey

Hey, it's Fritz's darling.
Fritz's darling?
Make one completely a gunship with an AC2 and an SRM2.

There's rules for deploying infantry via zip line. Don't need to land anymore!
I haven't seen those rules or don't remember reading them. Which book are they located
@@Helcarexe26 I'm not certain, probably the new rulebook. I know for a fact that it's in alpha strike, p90-91 but not which book the cbt rules are in.
@@wolf3794 They've really increased the number of rules in all the extra books, makes it easier to miss something useful
@@Helcarexe26 Tac Ops Page 219, Conventional or BA have to make an Anti-Mech roll or take 1 cluster of 5 infantry damage.
@@KageRyuu6 Thanks for the page for the Zipline rules, that's going to be useful for the next game with infantry.
