In this video we disassemble, discuss and reasemble the Easy-Fold Mechanism of a Baby Jogger Stroller. This mechanism can be found on a variety of Baby Jogger strollers including the City Elite, City Classic, City Mini, City Mini GT, Versa and Peformance. It might be neccessary to disassemble this mechanism if you need to replace parts as a result of the mechanism not functioning properly, or if the protruding elements of the mechanism have broken leading to instability in the overall chassis.

My stroller fold mechanism stopped working suddenly and without warning - discovered it had a total of 4 broken cross bolts, resulting in excess play, that resulted in 2 loose clovers destroying the plastic bush holding it.
I'm no engineer, but I wonder if an improvement in the design might avoid a lot of this;
1. increase the strength of the cross bolts (increase the diameter to more than 4mm?) .
2. improve the plastic bush holding the clover mechanism.
3, make all cross bolts accessible without removing decals! (2 broken bolts were behind the decal)
3. improve the metal in the clover gear?
It's great that parts are available to repair it, but always better to avoid the repair!

Hi, would you be able to help or show a video on a bumbleride indie twin that won't lock into place? I've taken the hinge mechanism apart but can't figure out what's preventing it to lock into place. The stroller with fold and unfold but just won't lock into place after opened up. It has two triggers to pull but because it won't lock, they're pointless at the moment. Help much appreciated!! Great channel btw!
We just bought the "City Select Double Baby Jogger" and we cannot fold it easily. Can you please make a video with that stroller? Ours is a 2013 model!
I’m in the same boat. Just bought a used 2013 model and it sometimes gets stuck closing. So annoying. I can’t find any good info on fixing it

Great videos glad I found your channel I have the double city select gt I recently took of material to wash and since I've put it back on I cannot seem to get the easy fold to work it's like one side is not popping out when I pull the handle on the inner chair any ideas please also I've noticed when the red material is buttoned onto frame it doesn't work is this normal?
The red material buttons on as a safety and thus intentionally keeps the stroller from folding. If the folding mechanisms aren't working when it's unbuttoned though, there's a good chance that elements inside have become misaligned. Openning it up and putting it back together will often correct the problem, and will at least allow you to find the broken parts :)

I'd appreciate some advice. I'm wondering if worn teeth could be the issue with my Versa, it's pretty stiff pulling on the fold strap. It's like the levers that the strap attaches to are not moving freely. I'm willing to take it apart and remove the "clover" gears, but I don't want to take it all apart if there's likely something else going on that would mean getting replacement parts.
Have you tried spraying some wd-40 into the mechanism? If you have, and it hasn't helped, it could be an alignment problem, might be worth opening it up just to try realigning it. If you don't want to replace parts, you can actually just remove the clover gears, it's a little more fiddly to lock upright, but it works if the teeth are damaged and you don't want to replace the disks. Wondering if this sort of thing could be done with my Graco fast action jogger . It’s seized and awful to try and fold but looks like a rivet not a screw in the mechanism . Do you have a video for this ?
You could always try to take it apart. I don't have any videos for Graco repairs, unfortunately. If you're going to drill a rivet, be sure to use a brand-new drillbit (most strollers use 5mm rivets), and if possible, put the stroller down on a hard surface so the other side of the rivet is supported, so that while you're drilling, the rivet doesn't just heat up and melt it's way into the plastic. - Those would be my main generic tip for drilling rivets anyway. :)

I generally take parts from used strollers that I buy secondhand, but try to contact BabyJogger directly, it's often possible to get parts from the manufacturer even if they don't advertise selling them. Or try a retailer :)

Awesome! Thank you for showing how to take apart the folding mechanism. In your other video showing the 2 strollers where the frame one was the one you had fixed, was that showing that you took the clover shaped metal piece out to fix that folding problem?
yes, if you can't get a new mechanism, just remove the clover-shaped part. A long as you make sure the stroller clicks into position when you pull it upright, it doesn't lose any stability. As demonstrated in that video, other parts of the mechanism are responsible for holdng the actual weight of the extended chassis, the cover part only aids in making the process of extending the stroller more automatic. But if the teeth are damaged, it loses this function and becomes a hindrance.

Hi My stroller folds and unfolds beautifully however one of the metal "elbows" gets stuck and doesn't retract - rather it sticks up into the seat - will removing this clover part sort this problem? Its the city mini double
I’ve taken out the clover shaped gear thing but my city mini still won’t fold? It’s folds when the leaver things are facing upwards if that makes sense but then they dig into my little boy. Any advice on what to do? Thanks
There are a couple pegs (one on each side) through holes in the rear frame bars that control the elevation of the spring mechanism, is it possible that they need to be moved up? It's hard to know without seeing your stroller, but the way you describe it indicates to me that the locking pins don't shove down low enough. It's also possible that there might be wear on the locking pins at the exact point where the levers should push them down. :)

You need to contact either a distributor or the manufacturer. If you bought it within the last 2 years(possibly more depending on EU regs), then the distributor you bought it from, undoubtedly has a responsibility to provide you with a solution other than just buying a new stroller.

Second, i cant get the system to unlock, I don't think the peg is pushing the springs down properly. Do you know what the arrangement of the spring and pegs are like? Hi :) The spring just sits on the peg that runs through the rear frame bar. In my experience, it would more likely be one of the following problems: 1) the lever isn't being positioned propery during reassembly (the release lever should be angled downwards during reassembly) 2) the gear teeth are too damaged for the little clover bit to run properly (see if it works if you remove the clover piece entirely), 3) parts of the plastic housing are worn down and the whole assembly is screwed together too tightly (try loosening up the screws a tiny bit). Hope this helps :)
@@BarnevognverkstedNo thanks heaps for your help I fixed the closing problem but now have found my original problem still exists.. something seems to be stopping the stroller from reaching the extended lock position when I try and open it back up. It had no problem staying locked when I was assembling/disassembling it.

The back half of the flower shaped gear piece was broken.
Good job :) contacting Babyjogger customer sevice via email is your best bet, or buying a defective chassis on the used market. If all else fails, you can always just remove the gear screw altogether (, just the clover-shaped part, not the actual screw). Yes, other than the need to be careful (for your own safety) while folding the stroller. If you look at the easy-fold mechanism from the top while folding it, you'll see that the disks are bent towards each other and meet when the stroller is extended. This is the point responsible for holding the stroller upright, the clover and teeth set-up really only causes the stroller to open and close easier (symetrically). My city tour deluxe has no screws, even bellow the plastic/aluminum cover. Im really confused.
Unfortunately the tour, and a couple other smaller-sized models, use an inferior version of the easy-fold mechanism that is riveted together, thus requiring drilling.

City Select is a bit different unfortunately. My first recommendation would be to try and get replacement parts from Babyjogger customer service. But if this doesn't work, you could try a solution similar to this video with the Elite: ruclips.net/video/d-dTXYIiy-M/видео.html
