Macon definitely is a step above in the food game. Several unique establishments and a couple of chain restaurants that are almost extinct everywhere else like S&S Cafeteria and Mrs. Winner's. Macon is the last city anywhere to have two S&Ss left.
I did want to add to my comment that I know that Macon has issues, and we are all working hard to deal with them. The problems didn't occur overnight and will not be fixed overnight but I do know that many citizens are working hard in all areas and many ways to make this a great place to live and call home.
I lived in Macon most of my life and moved to the west coast in 2017. I wish I could go back. Even though it’s dirty and beat down, this city has so many memories to me I can’t even explain. Couldn’t even finish watch the video cause I miss it so much
Is the Allman bros museum in a rough part of town in Macon? Were coming down to St. Augustine for a month in March and were thinking about taking a ride up.
Easy, my brother, the roads from Ft Valley (75) North to I16 and thru the "crosstown connector) HAVE ALWAYS been rough, bumpy, with the ability to help you car change lanes every 100 ft, at ANY point along that stretch. I lived in East Macon from '63 until '79 traveling that stretch while stationed in Warner Robins AFB. I CANNOT expect that the roads have improved. That stretch from Eisenhower parkway to Spring st off I16 never had ANY of those "walls" until after I left for Germany in '79. When I got back in '83, it looked like a BOMB exploded when the latest project started. THERE SHOULD BE NO surprise in the roads maintenance, since MY generation learned how to drive thru Cornfields, GA Red Clay dirt roads, and off roading was a way of life and not a SPORT!!! Sorry, just being funny but ACCURATE. MY HEART ACHES for Macon because east Macon, from Ocmulgee Monument and Emery Hwy, including the Main St "corridor" thru the Ft Hawkins subdivision area was a THRIVING area with MUCH LESS CRIME UNTIL the start of the '80s. Everything fell apart when the housing project started from Ft Hill st. east toward the Ocmulgee Monument intersection of Main St, (access closed now) with Emery Hwy at the Monument Entrance. Not surprised as the new "GENERATION" took over perpetuating a crime wave and old style ghetto in that area. It was NOT A BLACK, HISPANIC OR MEXICAN "THING"!!!! It was those who came in from outside, REGARDLESS OF RACE, that helped turn my hometown into a cess pool. Damned shame that the idea they could get away with ANYTHING, TOOK OVER. It can recover but will take longer to do that, at LEAST 25 or more years, to turn it around. Sorry, for the rant, my friend, I REALLY ENJOY your driving tours of Macon and other places in GA, that show the POTENTIAL of becoming a thriving area again. Those of us "old families" who built up the Ft Hawkins area, policed ourselves with good parenting skills, but poverty took over and things changed. Macon Police dept units used to stop by my Stepdads BBQ place On Main st and eat (2nd shift units) and patrolled aftewards. Took a lot of effort sometimes but it worked to hold OVERT crime to a manageable level. Thanks for your videos that help remind me of where I CAME FROM and where I would like to live again, but am afraid that is not possible as it is now.🥲😪☹😳😭💔❤🩹❤🤍💙
My family is new to Macon. Due to limited rental areas, we had to settle for Macon and I haven’t left the house since we moved here a week ago. That’s how bad it is. My husband has to do the shopping.
@@frankmason4342 I’m glad for you then. But I grew up in the system and have lived in some pretty shady places, and Macon was one of the most economically depressed, dirty, and crime-ridden town I’ve lived in.
El Paso did in fact get a huge short term population of often homeless migrants recently but that didn't last long. That has nothing in conflict with the El Paso being generally safe and has nothing to do with a city's cleanliness or lack thereof.

You'll be glad to know that those boarded up buildings at the I-16 exit have been demolished. Don't know yet what is going there but the boom downtown is spreading.
Regarding the El Paso thing, Biden had the "migrants" cleared out recently. Video doesn't lie about what was shown there before. El Paso is not nice. It simply has aesthetic architecture, but it is an extremely bad place. Parts of north El Paso are okay.
I've been thinking about moving to El Paso. I have a close latina female friend that lives there, and she says it's great. I just try to look for the best in a place anyways. I bet it will be different for me, coming from Memphis lol.

Macon is basically the depressing part of middle georgia. Unfortunately the bad reputation of macon overshadows the brighter more welcoming areas of middle georgia.
Lol What? Macon's the only city in Middle GA with over 150,000 people. Besides the "hood" areas there are shopping, dining, nightlife, entertainment, event centers, and hotel options etc etc. that the rest of Middle GA doesnt have. There are countless rural towns in Middle GA that also have poverty but, unlike Macon, literally have NOTHING else to offer, do, or see i.e. Jeffersonville, Irwinton, McIntyre, Haddock, Roberta, Reynolds, Butler, etc etc now THAT'S depressing

@@PlaylistKing478GA Exactly. What is he talking about Macon being the "depressing" part of middle Georgia. Grew up in that exact area of Macon back in the 90’s. It was a much better place back then. Sad to see what it’s become.
