Lea Salonga in the 10th anniversary concert perfected the technique so she could emote the words effortlessly. That's why it's one of the most iconic vocal performances of all time.
love this 💪
Lea Salonga’s version of On My Own in fact made the character Eponine become a coveted role.
@@karensantos5421 lea is the best she control her belt smoothly but that vocal coach switch videos she not watch till the end which mean she find another videos to say something else. she said that lea gonna win this.
Leah sings it.
Everybody else just... shouts? ✌🏻
Only thing I don’t like is she doesn’t always belt big notes. Just lacks power to me and anticlimactic. There’s many singers with just as good technique out there who can also sustain these big final notes in a belt and not just mixed like Lea
Without even watching - Lea Salonga
yeah me to
Same
Periodt.
Yasss mam!
Same
It’s Lea Salonga for me. The clarity, the diction, the tone... 👌 Legend
Lea Salonga is beyond this... this is ridiculous... why is she even on this list? She is at a different, much higher level with all her credentials - a legend! She's in a league of her own!!
I don't understand. You want the best performance left off the list of best performances?
The videocast isn't called 'Who sings "On My Own" Climax Second Best'.
BTW I have a soft spot for Frances Ruffelle, as well, as she was in a production I saw years ago.
@@CrYou575 To be honest, though, it really could be titled that since anyone with a serious interest in musical theatre knows which performance is best and the real discussion would be around other positions.
Absolutely.. nothing but perfect. Lea Salonga has nothing more to prove, she is legendary.
Lea Salonga did not only give us a glimpse of the better technique.for singing this song, she TOLD us the STORY of this song even without the need to read the novel. She is definitely a storyteller of songs.
Wew I see you everywhere
Au Contraire, my friend ... Au Contraire !!!
The conversation will start and end with Lea Salonga.
Her version is a cut above all.
Fact! ✨
Au Contraire, my friend ... Au Contraire !!!
We Filipinos literally grew up reading about Lea in social studies.
Indeed
I definitely agree. 👏👏👏
agree
What’s the point of this post? Smh
@@frisc0pn0ib0i you can simply ignore
22 yrs later, Lea still beat all of them. The epitome of Eponine, The Eponine of All Eponines.
Lea Salonga is the template of this song 😬
Honestly, without bias, Lea Salonga really set the bar really high for the current and future singers of On My Own
When I want to feel "wowed", I watch Lea Salonga's 10th-anniversary performance. It's absolutely incredible. The clarity of each syllable is beyond impressive!! ♥
Always going to be Lea Salonga. STUN
Eponine was easy until Lea had the role.
Lea’s version is the one to aspire to if you’re learning this song. So beautiful and technically 👌 ✨.
Lea Salonga is a legend and for me, no one can beat her in the broadway performance. She sings crystal clear and she can adapt all accents because she's not just an intelligent singer but a genius.
Lea Salonga’s version is the definitive version of this song👏👏
Lea Salonga: emotions-wise, powerful yet no belting needed, right breathing and pronounciation, great stability and control...and yes oh so crystal clear!
Cameron Macintosh and the producers chose Lea Salonga to sing at the anniversary for a great reason: she's the perfect fit for her singing. My opinion doesn't matter, it's Cameron's decision that said it all.
When I read into it, I learned Frances Ruffelle (the OG) was unavailable, which is how we got the incredible Lea Salonga!
Her voice and technique is never shrill..there is a sweetness and sadness at the same time.
She’s amazing and great, but one reason she was chosen is because they picked actors from different Les Mis productions for the 10th. Colm Wilkinson, Michael Ball, and Alun Armstrong are all from the original London cast so they had to pick someone else for Eponine
@@vitaminck1I just learned yesterday that Frances’s youngest child was born in 1995. She could have been pregnant or just given birth when the concert happened
Lea just had a less aggressive and pushy feel than the others! It’s still insane to reach that note. :D
She’s aimed for the Eponine that is happy to live her fantasies but also reluctantly and sadly acknowledges the fact that her fantasies are just that: fantasies. In a sense, it’s very soft and more internal than the others who are going for more of a desperate, wailing-in-despair tone, which, if you’re talking about Eponine’s whole deal in this song, Lea’s character analysis fits more than the others.
Both the Lea’s where the winners for me
Can't spell CLEAR without LEA.(LEA SALONGA) sorry but she's apparently the face of broadway
She’s considered royalty not the face
Haha that was good 👏👏
Idk but I cant look at the other singers the same way after Lea Salonga sang this song. Lol Samantha was also good but Lea Salonga is def the clear winner
I agree!
Lea Solanga is my absolute favorite! There is no one who can touch her clarity and pure ness of voice. The effortless seams of her transitions make her a true character. She never oversells a single note, and not knowing when to hold back is the other singers’ obvious weakness, especially Lea Michele. She is the closest second in that purity of sound, but she cancels it out every time she belts! Lea Solanga’s resonance is so naturally controlled it sounds as if she never needed training at all, though we know she worked hard for her gift, but just the thought that she could wake up any day and do this is why she is the best, in my honest and dedicated opinion!
From this list-
#1 Lea Solanga
#2 Samantha Barks
#3 Lea Michele
Since you didn’t specify “who sang it best” in English, I would like to say that Kaho Shimada’s Japanese performance of “On My Own” is absolutely out of this world. Her voice has that oh-so-rare natural purity, like Solanga’s, but still unique to her, and her character portrayal of Eponine is flawless. Really worth listening to her version!!!
First! Lea's clarity is everything 💗
lea salonga makes me cry everytime
My hair stands whenever I hear Lea sings this! Such a voice; such diction; such feeling. Hands down, it's Lea always!
Lea Salonga, the real Broadway diva
Lea Salonga every time ... she sings every word xx
Definitely Lea Salonga hands down! She has set the bar high after she sang this song, even made the character Eponine become a coveted role after her performance.
LEA SALONGA THE ICONIC BROADWAY DIVA, PERFECT!
On Lea... she used a mixed voice in the les mis 10th anniv show because she was reserving her voice. She was performing 7-8x/ week then... She was able to belt the same line in her concert because t'was just a 2 night show (?). --- Methinks.
Lea Salonga,
Broadway Diva from the
Philippines 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Lea and Lea, both brilliant 🎶
Filipinos grew up listening and emulating Lea, Regine, Celine, Whitney and Mariah Carey(the most) ❤️ we've learned from the GREATESTS
Lea Salonga before the review and at the end I still pick her. Her voice is like velvet it's so nice on my eardrums.
I arrived in heaven when I first watched the version of the one and only Ms. Lea Salonga.
Lea Salonga sets the bar too high on this one hence no one can reach it so far.
5:09 The only one ya'll need to see. You're welcome.
Lea SALONGA is topnotch 💞
It's Lea Salonga. I can understand her English more. I don't know the term but she delivers the song clearly.
Hands down, Lea Salonga, the original Miss Saigon and singing voice for Princess Jasmine. She has introduced musicals and "broadway" to filipinos. She's been one of my favorite singer since her KLIM commercial as an 8-year-old.
I love Samantha's version from the film, I think It's because it is more acting, so I feel so much emotion, there she is like a little girl and I just want to comfort her. But I must admit that thanks to that version, I've found Lea Salonga's incredibly version.
Lea Salonga is tasteful..She got the balance while others were just yelling.
"I think Lea may win this" was the biggest understatement in the history of Internet :)
She did not even finished the first version of Lea Salonga where she was younger
Your musical theatre videos are some of my favourite of yours. I'm so glad that you do them.
Lea Salonga 1995 is my fave. She not only sounds amazing but you get caught up with her acting of the song. (I love the climax and the moments right after that going into, "I love him.") I don't know exactly when the later Lea Salonga version is from but it's at least 20 years later. She still sounds amazing. And this may also color my opinion, but I'm not a huge fan of the melody change on "pretending" - I much prefer the original version.
Lea Salonga! Not just the crystal clear diction and pitch-perfect, but the passion/emotion she brought to the song.
100% agree with you, lea full of emotion where you feel straight from your heart.
Lea Salonga’s performance on the 10th anniversary just sets the bar for Eponine. Can’t mess with perfection.
Lea Salonga. Lea Salonga. LEA SALONGA! She's THE ONE. Samantha Barks was also really good. But Lea Salonga owns this song.
The 10th Year Les Mis Anniv vocal performance, for me, sets the standard for this song. Enunciation, dynamics, emotional connection and interpretation, technique, everything in one vocal performance!
They all can sing. So, I closed my eyes and without looking at the singer meaning simply by listening to them, I would say
1. Lea S. (younger version) - I felt the pain, emotion and her loneliness. I like her younger version than her latest version though.
2. Samantha B. (Movie version) - I definitely felt her emotion and sadness. I felt more like teen love. So close to younger version of Lea S. There was more vulnerability on her voice which is really good for me.
3. Lea M. - I felt her emotions but the pain was kinda missing for me. It sounded like she's kinda calling to someone very far from her but it's good version though.
Leah Salonga is perfectionist in Clear singing specially in diction and she's a Legend in our country asa performing artist in theaters, movies and a Class +++ A artist. Proud to say Filipinos were a good musical talents with good vocals in any parts of the Philippines and Globally 😍😘
I love videos like these, it puts Lea as a cherry on top on every damn good song that has been given justice.
Please never stop Musical Theater Mondays! It's what drew me to your channel and I always look forward to them!
In the first one Lea Salonga preferred to do mix as she was singing this 5x a week she need to save voice for other day show. Unlike on the second one thats why she go on full belt on the second one.
I love your content so much!
Lea Salonga, no question! I love her rendition from the 10th year Anniversary of Les Miz. I never fed up of it! 😊 ❤️ 🎶
So good!
She's a master of her craft. Lea is so lit that I knew it before I started to play the video.
Totally agree 😍 with you on that one!
Samantha gave me chills too!
We need more musical theatre Monday’s! They’re my favorite!
Oh yeah ,,,, Lea is my favorite. I like her voice so crystal clear 😘🤗
Well, LEA SALONGA, made this song so ICONIC when nobody else can....❤️❤️❤️
I've always loved Lea Salonga's version, but when I heard Samantha Barks' stage version I was blown away. I like them both, though I wish the version where Samantha sang "pretending" higher made it into the film.
There will never be any other person who can sing musical theater as phenomenal as Lea Salonga. Her vocals give me goosebumps every time. I saw her in Miss Saigon in 1992 and I was 12 years old and have loved her ever since. ❤️
Hi Georgina! I love your channel!
Yaaaaaaaas!! You’re my favorite 😭😭😭😭
Oh i love this so much!!!
i would listen to Lea again and again and again and will have the same emotions, she just pulls you in to the song.
Lea then Lea 😆
But Samatha is definitely a close second!!🙌🏼❤️
You chose in the same order as me your assessment was spot on 👍👍
When you look up Les Mis in the encyclopedia it simply says “see Lea Salonga”
Hahahahahaha!!! Good one!!! 😂
ohmygod.I actually saw that performance of Lea Salonga(short hair, red gown) live! She was jetlagging that night but was really superb the entire show!
Lea is the best, she has an exceĺent diction and wonderful clear voice❤😍
Lea Salonga is just an indispensable Number 1 singer for me ever.
Never stop Musical Theater Monday! We theater lovers need this, and you deserve to treat yourself
I love Musicals, though I can't sing to safe my life. Don't know any singing techniques or lingo, so all that talk of High Notes, Resonance or Vibrato is great for aspiring singers, but a little out of my league. So for me the winner is Lea Solanga, the others, to my untrained ears, were just... very, very loud.
All of them did it SO GOOD!
But Lea Salonga and Lea Michele are my favs by far
Lea should not be in the list my dear. She's an icon and a legend when it comes in Broadway.
I LIKE WHAT I HAVE SEEN TODAY AND I HAVE GIVEN YOU A 'THUMBS UP' AND I HAVE SUBSCRIBED HOUSE DOWN BOOTS FOR YOUR NERVE.
Love Leah Salonga. She has an angelic voice!!!
Omg no way I was like oh carnt wait for her to react to another video like this and next day you have omg hahahahaha xxxx love
Hi honest coach new sub here👌👍thanks for lea salonga💓watching from japan🇯🇵🇵🇭
1st - Lea Salonga (Truly a Legend and National Treasure), 2nd - Lea Michelle, 3rd - Samantha Barks.
Lea simply nails it!🎉
I agree....Lea nailed it!
Love your accent so much ❤
Lea salonga for the win :) the power the angst and the emotion is there specially with the last line
Samantha ♥️♥️♥️♥️ she was my introduction to Les mis and this song🥰🥰
Why anyone would dislike any of your videos is beyond me
I’m not a singer, wish I was. My children sing…😍 but yes, I think my ear is inclined well enough to hear what you’ve pointed out.
I agree, Lea Salonga is truly gifted. 😇 She is a true legend and a beautiful person on top of it all.
Thanks for the vids I love to hear them.
LEA SALONGA Dominating the comment section! Haha. Love it!! I live for this ❤️ Hail, Queen Lea!
It makes me sooo happy everytime "Lea Salonga" is an answer to our Music and Arts subject here in the Philippines
Lea Salonga has a perfect Pitch ,clarity and words not shouting,Crystal voice effortless
Hands down Lea Salonga! The whole performance was just breathtaking.
I love leah salonga's voice..😍 she is the best..
I LOVE Lea Michelle. She's one of the main actor/singers on Glee! So good! Also love the channel! I watch every video that comes out 😁😁
I agree with you. I love both Lea's. And Samantha barks was great. I just can't pick which three I liked the best. Thanks for the video.
Lea Salonga's theater performance still for me best represent the message an the soul of the song.
Same Top Three here. I watched the movie version and samantha’s singing really amazed me.
