I'm a musician who's staying home by myself this Labor Day weekend. I'm always looking for obscure or undervalued music, and so I found this video. I didn't expect that it's also got some fantastic footage of the Daytona of yesteryear. Toss in the terrific collection of songs, and this video is a sure winner. Thanks so much, for taking all the time & effort to produce it. This is priceless.
I like-this mix also, but I am also an independent Music Blogger with most tracks from the original 45rpm where the sound is much better . Rocking regards, Peter
Back when amerikkka was a serious threat, you mean, creating its imperial plutocratic tyranny that led us to the mess we are today. Truman and advisor George Kennan were the catalysts of the cold war that turned the military into the monstrous military industrial complex; Reagan, clinton and bush were the gas that fed the fire until it's out of control. We need to be crushed. Amerikkkans are too stupid to realize what's going on. Will the rest of the world boycott us into oblivion before we destroy the entire planet?

WE HAD SOME SERIOUS RACING GOING ON! Not only did we have some great street rods, we also had fast roads ideal for all types of racing; You could grab a quick run down Kaiser Road, which we called the "Back Stretch", out behind the Rec Hall. From a standing start up by the gas station, It was always empty and made for some interesting challenges with its odd cambered curves. For Mountain Road Racing you couldn't beat Caution Hill, and for top end maximum speed there was always the R2 County Road on the flats to Desert Center. We even had a quarter mile drag strip painted off on Old Eagle Mountain Road next to the High School, so we could grab a few runs during our lunch breaks. I remember some legendary events circling the three runways at General Patton's airport off of Rice Road. A lot of those involved crazy stunts like swapping drivers or climbing over the roof to the other side. What could you expect, those desert parties involved a lot of drinking! For organized racing you couldn't beat the banked oval that carved itself out of the clay next to the dump. Things got pretty serious in the early seventies when the guys started building their own stock cars for the weekend races. All the great racing families were there, from the Beckers, the Ogburns, the Sharps, the Shorters and of course Danny Brooks. We weren't as organized as the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing, NASCAR, like the pioneers shown in this video clip. This was one of the last February Speed Weeks held on the sand, as they had just started building the great Daytona Speedway. You can catch glimpses here of Lee Petty (Richard's dad), Ralph Earnhardt (Dales Dad) and Cotton Owens who ran for one of the greatest engine builders ever, Smoky Yunick, That's their Number 3 black 57 Chevy that keeps stealing the scenes here. One of the founding rules of NASCAR was that you had to run actual stock car production equipment. That meant that the manufacturers could only enter gear that was offered to the public. Sometimes as few as a couple of dozen production models would qualify this racing gear as stock. There's a great story about our Becker family getting wind of this loophole and ordering up a full-blown NASCAR racing machine from the Indio Ford dealer. When they brought this baby back to the hill, the word got out and the CHP went ballistic. They had enough trouble keeping up with Eagle Mountain drivers, but now they had lost their Monopoly on having the fastest machines on the road. There must have been some interesting strings pulled, because the Beckers were asked to bring their machine down for some free warranty work. While they were being entertained and stalled in the dealer's office, the shop threw every mechanic they had into ripping that NASCAR engine out of there and replacing it with production equipment. They didn't even ask, the government just knew they didn't want to be outgunned by the sons of Patton's Army.
