As beautiful and lovely as this scene is, ultimately I get why it was deleted. It’s so clear from the way Henry is talking here that he loves Alex, so for him to turn around and run off in the next scene when Alex tries to tell him that he loves him - it just doesn’t flow right. Thank you, you get it! We can appreciate how fantastic a scene is and still acknowledge why the decision to cut it made sense. Writers/directors don't cut things for the fun of it (at least the real ones don't). Just because a scene is really good by itself doesn't mean it works the way it's meant to in the grand scheme of the movie.
Plus, there's an error in dialogue delivery that I've mentioned in another comment. Henry says "the king sent the suit a prince of armour" instead of saying "the kind sent the prince a suit of armour". Although, it must not have been a big reason but still, a reason for not reshooting and adding it to the final cut.
Fully agreed, it definitely makes Henry's actions seem more unreasonable and less sympathetic when he runs from Alex and then gets mad at him for being confused and demanding an explanation, if he'd told him all THIS the night before. Hardly fair to poetically describe how Alex has "made him feel truly alive for the first time in his life" and allowed his heart to "beat freely once again", and then get mad when Alex takes that as a confession of love and tries to do the same in return. It is a beautifully shot and performed scene though. Nicholas is a phenomenal actor and delivers every line with such emotion, and Taylor does a perfect job of portraying how completely, hopelessly in love Alex is with Henry.
could not agree more. and i also notice about the timing. talk with Oscar - Morning Camp FIre - Evening The Lake - Late Morning so the line will look better in the same day from talk with Oscar to The Lake ( and yes, Alex was trying to jump according to Oscar's suggestion )
“fine, i’ll leave. and you can live in your tower and protect your heart for the rest of your life, and nothing will ever happen to you. but, henry.. nothing will ever happen to you.” the way this scene makes perfect sense now
Said it before; Nick has a great voice for storytelling, I think his agent should try to get him some audiobook work... mind you, with his work schedule atm don't think he would have the time...
Yes, great to see this deleted scene. I have watched the film maybe 3 dozens times! I always thought there was some missing piece, Henry's process sometimes seems a bit disjointed and goes highs to low and back again very quickly. Especially in the scene you referenced above. I stick to my opinion thiat RW&RB should have been a limited series so some of Henry's process could have been fleshed out more. I still LOVE this film though. I wanted more.Maybe we can get a direstor;s cut version.
@@jbart5260 Of course I would've loved a miniseries but I feel like Henry's process tracks with what we're given, but that's probably because I'm incredibly similar to him personality-wise so I can see why he does what he does. He wants Alex and to be with him for real so desperately but deep down he knows he can never really have it, so he just takes what he gets and leaves when it gets too real because it's impossible. Poor guy's emotions are all over the place.

Yet, it would’ve beautifully tied in to where when Henry is suspended underwater in the lake and puts his hand over his heart; It would symbolize him putting his armor firmly back in place and quickly flying back to the safety of his castle in England and out of Alex’s loving arms.
Omgaaa 😢 I see now where this would have fit in the movie, right before the lake scene for sure maybe before the bar/Kareoke scene, that way we can lighten up with a gno and then after Alex falls deeper in love and seeing Henry how being with Alex is making him so happy he could let loose and sing great Kareoke 😅, ugh we need the EXTENDED DIRECTORS CUT NOW! In the book Henry graduated from college with a title in English literature, and his emails to Alex are fascinating to read, he is an amazingly talented writer, and so is Casey McQuiston, the author of the book, who must have had a ball writing Henry's emails and this particular story about the prince and his heart.

THIS is why most people who haven't read the book failed to see Henry’s POV. This scene perfectly explains why he did the things he did, so I wish they had included it.
The scene was beautiful but it wasn't necessary to understand Henry's POV. First of all, Henry's the 'spare', meaning he is supposed to have children and carry on the royal line (or whatever it's called) just in case anything happens to his grandfather/mother/brother/nephews/nieces etc. With that said he has a lot of pressure on him to behave a certain way and live a certain life that most people in the real world should be familiar with or at least have a fair idea of. Anyone that doesn't understand this quite frankly lacks critical thinking skills.
@@cmt89497 i was thinking the same. henry had made it perfectly clear right from the start how trapped he is and how impossible all this felt. i don't get why people didn't understand his actions. made complete sense to me even without this scene or the book
I disagree... if this had been there, it would make less sense for Henry to run off after Alex confessed his love. This sounds like an invitation for that expression. To run off after inviting him to say it would have made Henry seem more callous I think, and less trapped.

Also in the cornetto (deleted) scene, he says "You're dealing with a professional" then when they are in Paris, Henry says "You're in good hands, you're dealing with a professional" There is so much interlinked moments from these deleted scenes that make so much sense later.
I love the way they went from hating each other to literally melt for each other. The chemistry is out of this world. These are real talents, people. I am telling you.
so that was the context of the *nothing will ever happen to you* line in the movie. gosh, this was such a lovely scene, i’m so glad we get to witness it
This is such a beautiful scene and specially showcases Henry's "literature graduate" side so well. He connects with stories, feels them, and communicates by way of stories. He's a writer at heart, a storyteller and I love this side of him
it actually kind of explains why Alex took the risk being so expressive with his love of Henry in the raft scene. After hearing Henry say all that at the campfire the night before, he would have felt anything was possible between them
If the only note Matt gave Taylor for the whole movie was "stare adoringly at Nic, no, no, more adoringly" then Taylor would win an Oscar. His face always looks like he wants to give Henry the world and eat him up at the same time. This scene is no exception.
I think that is especially true in the scene in the bar when Alex really realises that he loves Henry. The express on Alex's face (whilst Henry is singing) is fantastic and says it all.
The other reason I love this (other than the obvious re: the storyline development, the performance, and the additional references from the book) is that this really reinforces Henry’s identity as a writer and storyteller, which didn’t really get to be explored in the rest of the film
This marketing strategy for Red, White & Royal Blue retention is so good. When you are about to move on from this, they publish a little bit of the deleted clips that suddenly suck your soul to watch the movie over and over again because Alex and Henry are so adorable!!!! Yup, I'm one of the victims!!! 😍
Described it perfectly. Every time I think the obsession has calmed down and I can move on with my life, bam! New content, and RWRB takes over my brain and life again. 😪
I'm crying. They shouldn't of cut this scene or any of the scenes. I NEED THE FULL MOVIE WITH THE DELETED SCENES. This is just so beautiful and wholesome
OK, now that you're all emotionally invested, go back and listen at around 1:15, where Henry.Nick says, "His grandfather, the king, sent the suit a prince of armor." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 So adorable! Can't unhear it. 💖💖💖
"Sent the suit a prince of armor" I love how he fucked up that line and they still released this take. It doesn't even matter cause this scene is too good.
This so much. I need them together in all the movies. I would love to see them playing battlefield boyfriends (think Nicky and Joe form The Old Guard). And I need them to sing together in a movie.
this is such a devastatingly beautiful scene. nicholas galitzine the actor that you are. wow. henry did say he loved alex back in his own way before alex did and the way nicholas delivered here. oh my god.
This little story made me cry in the book, it was another vivid image of the little sweet boy Henry used to be and how Alex came into his life to both protect him and challenge him. I'm so happy to see it in the hands of these two amazing actors.
This clip should have been kept so that Henry's inner struggle and pain could be shown more deeply. Nicholas does such a great job with his emotional scenes! I am always deeply touched by his eyes and voice.
Nicholas Galitzine, you are some sort of miracle. As a retired theatre critic I had felt we had lost actors who could deliver such depth and simplicity, such clarity of emotion with no tricks, no affectations, but with such intensity straight from the back foot. I wonder how many people realise the technical as well as the emotional brilliance you give everything you do? And in your own way, on your own terms, yet with such heart, perception and charisma. That utter rarity - the instinctive actor. Keep it up. I have watched you develop and grow from The Beat Beneath My Feet - and you have not put a foot wrong. Astonishing. And so much more to come to delight everyone who sees you. And thank you for it. And I haven't even started on the music........!
@@randemanNot yet. Films that only stream and are rom coms tend never to be treated seriously. He needs the right material for an Oscar but as seen with Cumberbatch and his two Oscar noms, the Oscar clique do not like giving their gongs to British actors of quality. But I have high hopes for Mary And George for BAFTAs. And if The Idea Of You is released in the same time frame as with RWARB and Bottoms there will be a lot of appreciation for such varied consecutive roles and that will raise his stock in the industry. So watch the space. All on the rise and progressing nicely!
Exactly as you say. As a retired man of the theatre, like you. but on the performing side, I wonder when he will be given the opportunity to move beyond RWRB (script, direction, appropriate role). As I see it, his performance in RWRB is as near perfection as it can get. I almost fear that unscrupulous agencies will push him in the wrong direction. Do you see him as a future James Bond, for example? That would bring far greater fame and fortune -- but at what price?
@@kk2002sf hello kk2002sf, nice to see a fellow spirit! Good question. He is more than capable of playing a new younger Bond for a new generation and already, as himself, remarkably has the skillset in martial arts etc to make Bond a natural role. Natural to fear for him with such exposure, But he has already negotiated the perils of being too handsome and talented and still made good, and has mastered the art of apparent transparency without being any such thing. He clearly has the gift of a wise and supportive family at his back, plus his own natural maturity. Wise so far, so success unlikely to go to his head now. World as oyster time, I hope!
I wonder IF there was a RWRB sequel do you think it would be a good idea if he came back to raise role as plenty of fans wish it including me or do you think its better for his career to go onward and upward and not go back to the same thing?
FINALLY, the campfire scene that I was waiting for so long. Tbh, I though it would be a scene where they told jokes, laughed, and be silly (I haven't read the book) but no, it's totally opposite and I love it to the core. Nick did a great job in remembering the speech which is over a page and half and delivered so beautiful. Henry was like let me show you how to tell I love you without saying "I love you".
no because these deleted scenes are keeping me alive, I cannot describe how much I love this movie and how perfectly Taylor and Nicholas delivered “them”… I love every second of this movie, thank you, need more of this😭😭
Such a beautiful scene! I wish they kept it so we saw Henry’s feeling start to grow. I feel we saw Alex’s feelings grow when they went to the bar and karaoke and then swimming. This shows Henry’s feelings growing. So glad we get to see it, wish it wasn’t deleted 😭
Nicholas is just like water .. He takes the shape of the character he portrays.. How wonderfully he enacted the scene - the absolute vulnerability and then, suddenly, all love and fun (when he talks about Alex)! The way Taylor and Nicholas eye each other - every glance dripping with love for each other .. I mean .. it can easily make one wonder if this is all real or just genius acting .. Love this movie (lost count already of the number of rewatches) and love the chemistry ❤️❤️❤️ Love from India 🇮🇳
This ties up so with so much else: Henry's remark in the Red Room, "I just can't afford for you to fall in love with me", the way he seeks and finds Alex's heart in the Paris scene, the reason for him touching/protecting his own heart underwater at the lakehouse, and Alex's warning in Kensington Palace that "nothing will ever happen to you". The more I watch this movie, the clearer it becomes that it's not just a poppy rom-com or a simple tale of "enemies to friends", but more like two movies in one: a fun-loving comedy on the one hand, and a yearning, searing love-story on the other, a story that moves people to tears. Thank you, Nicholas, Taylor, Matthew and Casey, for one of the greatest love stories ever to have been shown on film. PS Immediately after Henry saying "I just can't afford for you to fall in love with me", Alex says "Get over yourself, Your Majesty" and STRIKES HIM ON THE HEART, though the blow is softened by a cushion. Omg, so much thought went into the making of this movie. PPS I ran the full lakehouse scene from the film, interrupting it to insert this scene from RUclips at the appropriate point. The break in style is disturbing. Henry sad-eyed and melancholy, then a few seconds later he's cheerfully scolding Alex for dousing him with cold water ("You are such a cretin! Get off"). Viewed en suite, it doesn't work well. Intriguing btw in the fireside scene that Henry himself is dressed more like a peasant boy than a prince.
I love your comment, but I question one thing - I think it wasn't the red room (aka library - hysterical scene!! ) but in his private room on the second floor of the WH just after their first "time". I think?
Matthew described the book as a "Trojan horse" in one interview (I can't remember which one without searching) because it starts out as one thing, then blindsides you by turning into something completely different. That's the perfect way to describe the film as well. One minute you're laughing at their silly rivalry and banter, and the next you're in tears over a fictional couple's relationship struggles.
Prime I'm deadly serious you need to release the extended director's cut blu-ray of Red, White & Royal Blue with all the deleted scenes, behind the scenes, bloopers, and actor/director interviews in it! I'm telling you PEOPLE WILL BE BUYING.
I've just started reading the book, so I don't know if this scene is in line with the canons of the book or if it was invented by the scriptwriters. But it's just incredible! It's so heartbreaking and tender at the same time... it's now one of my favorites.
Oh my freaking God! I can't believe this was gonna be part of the film! In my heart it is, this is part of the final cut, I'm literally in tears, what a beautiful way to honor the book with this scene!
Now you made me wanna see it again. I can't overstate how much this movie has done for me. To see a male couple portrayed so positively, so lovingly. Their words, and their actions are an example of how to treat another human we love. Even in difficult times. To not attack the person, but to attack the issue, together. ❤❤
OMFG thank you PrimeVideo, thank you thank you thank you! 🥰❤ It would have been an absolute crime had this never seen the light. Patiently awaiting the rest because dammit this is so beautiful and we need more!
“No one is more mystified than I“ . Especially the deleted campfire scene depicted on the cover of the movie on Amazon Prime. The deleted scene reveals a fairytale-like narrative embedded within Henry's profound emotion . Its portrayal is iconic, surreal and too memorable. This scene was meant to unfold before the raft-swimming sequence in Austin. I guess it could change the moment too abruptly when Henry's subsequent actions, where he dons his armor back to shield his heart and abruptly distances himself from Alex, leaving in the middle of the night. But who doesn’t want to see more fairy tale scenes than reality. The scene might be situated within Henry's dream, occurring after the VA dance scene. The moment Henry awakens the following morning. Holden by Alex's hand tightly. 😅
But only in that space. The armour is still there...just loosened by the 'peasant boy' constantly pulling at it...that's why Henry still can't feel free to believe it's possible to give himself fully and be with Alex. Heartbreaking 😢
@@beckyone9837 The scene is sheer perfection, except for that one small error. When the full version appears, which surely it must, it will be a simple matter for the sound editor to swap those two words around.
Thank you Prime for bringing some more scenes that we have never seen before. If possible, please bring more of these or release Behind the scene for fans or plan for a sequel with the writer and the director for us. We are willing to pay. Love you, Nick.

This could have been a standalone short film and it still would have been amazing. Nick's performance is just incredible.
Ditto!
I'm crying. They shouldn't of cut this scene or any of the scenes. I NEED THE FULL MOVIE WITH THE DELETED SCENES. This is just so beautiful and wholesome
Right ❤
Well, the product-placement cut breakfast scene can stay on the cutting room floor, but this scene… this scene is gorgeous.
OK, now that you're all emotionally invested, go back and listen at around 1:15, where Henry.Nick says, "His grandfather, the king, sent the suit a prince of armor." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 So adorable! Can't unhear it. 💖💖💖
oh, thank God! I was afraid I was hearing things!
I was looking for this comment 😭
Saaame....I heard it too...and then heard it twice again just to make sure 😅....
"Sent the suit a prince of armor" I love how he fucked up that line and they still released this take. It doesn't even matter cause this scene is too good.
I was scouring the comments trying to find anyone else who had caught that. 😂
I had to replay several times to make sure that is what I heard. But still beautifully done.
I need this pair on like ten more romcoms. Their chemistry is unmatchable, the way Alex was looking at Henry almost lights my heart on fire.
This so much. I need them together in all the movies. I would love to see them playing battlefield boyfriends (think Nicky and Joe form The Old Guard). And I need them to sing together in a movie.
this is such a devastatingly beautiful scene. nicholas galitzine the actor that you are. wow. henry did say he loved alex back in his own way before alex did and the way nicholas delivered here. oh my god.
Henry holding his chest in the water now makes sense; Alex broke away the final piece of armor protecting his heart.
This little story made me cry in the book, it was another vivid image of the little sweet boy Henry used to be and how Alex came into his life to both protect him and challenge him. I'm so happy to see it in the hands of these two amazing actors.
"the sweet little boy henry used to be"---like in that magazine photo in their childhood
Bets on his first BAFTA? Oscar?
And poor Alex took this as confirmation that yes, he could tell Henry he loved him.
I can't believe it! I'm crying! It's my favorite piece in the book. This movie continues to make my heart explode with emotions
no because these deleted scenes are keeping me alive, I cannot describe how much I love this movie and how perfectly Taylor and Nicholas delivered “them”… I love every second of this movie, thank you, need more of this😭😭
Agreed! I love them so much ❤
I watched this movie literally 20 times
@@kevinliu4797 I’ve watched it a bunch too, I can’t get enough
I've watched this exquisite movie countless times and it never ceases to capture my heart and make my life immeasurably better. ❤
I agree
Nicholas is just like water .. He takes the shape of the character he portrays.. How wonderfully he enacted the scene - the absolute vulnerability and then, suddenly, all love and fun (when he talks about Alex)! The way Taylor and Nicholas eye each other - every glance dripping with love for each other .. I mean .. it can easily make one wonder if this is all real or just genius acting .. Love this movie (lost count already of the number of rewatches) and love the chemistry ❤️❤️❤️ Love from India 🇮🇳
i have no words to describe how beautifully acted this scene is, i'm sobbing
At first I was: Why is the camera staying so far away from him - but moving in, while Henry is letting us in, is genius!
I think?
@@tallguym4m You're right. thanks.
Some people mentioned that Gay movie. I would like to say that just very romania movie .
@@ObtuseMori re Matthew’s ‘Trojan Horse’ insight-I haven’t heard this before, so thank you for your great comment!
He's such an great actor 😮👏, he spilled a whole emotion through story in one shot... Wow I'm really excited for his next project 😍❤
Nick played his roll so well that I had to cry. Great Job Nick❤!
Prime I'm deadly serious you need to release the extended director's cut blu-ray of Red, White & Royal Blue with all the deleted scenes, behind the scenes, bloopers, and actor/director interviews in it! I'm telling you PEOPLE WILL BE BUYING.
And actor/director commentary tracks - Criterion style!
@@Avy9gc omg criterion style would be soooo nice.
Nick will get an oscar someday for sure
He better.
As long as he stays far from movies like ‘Bottom’. 🥴

Such a beautiful scene.. This shows how much Alex and his love means to Henry. Thank you for this Prime ❤️
Thank you so much! This is so tender and beautiful. Amazing work from Nicholas Galitzine, he's an incredible artist.
This is such a beautiful scene..Bravo Nicholas Galitzine !! you truly are an amazing actor
I've just started reading the book, so I don't know if this scene is in line with the canons of the book or if it was invented by the scriptwriters. But it's just incredible! It's so heartbreaking and tender at the same time... it's now one of my favorites.
bit of both. it’s more so in an email that henry sends to alex but i agree it’s beautiful.
@@juffrrio9676 SPOILERS (I mean. I've read the book but the person you're responding to hasn't!)
@@brynbloom5993 this “spoiler” literally implies nothing lol calm down
It’s so good
Actings,,, deliveration of their lines
Actors are awesome
Absolutely beautiful
1:40 subtle things like the way they dress really show how alex is sooo at home in texas and how out of place henry looks in his button up
FINE, I'll watch RWRB for the 100th time! But seriously, this scene? Nicholas really delivered!!!!! ❤
Nicholas has really grown as an actor. I didn't really care for his early work but his performance in RW&RB is brilliant.
Please post some more deleted scenes if there are, and please do a Red, white and royal blue 2 we need it 💙
Oh my freaking God!
Patiently awaiting the rest because dammit this is so beautiful and we need more!
my god, nick just gave his all to henry, didn't he?? beautiful ... the forrest scene next, PLEASE
“And in that space the prince’s heart beat freely once again” 😭
But only in that space. The armour is still there...just loosened by the 'peasant boy' constantly pulling at it...that's why Henry still can't feel free to believe it's possible to give himself fully and be with Alex. Heartbreaking 😢
I’m happy they are releasing these deleted scenes. This is such a heartfelt and powerful moment! I felt this!
Truly unbelievable that this scene was cut from the movie. It’s so telling and so moving about Henry. Thanks so much for revealing this scene.
The way Nicholas performed this part so beautifully 🤧
nick you deliver such beautiful storytelling, thank you PRIME
I'm crying my heart out here 😭. Nicholas brought so much heart ❤and soul 💙to Henry.
This is the cutest thing and I'm so mad it was cut...
But all I can hear...
Is "he sent the suit a prince of armor"
I DIDNT HRAR IT UNTIL I SKIPPED BACK HOW DARE YOU. WHSHCHCISB
I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS WQFwefrfc
It's genuinely so unfair to Nick to be stuck on that one imperfect line but like... it's right there 😭
@@beckyone9837 The scene is sheer perfection, except for that one small error. When the full version appears, which surely it must, it will be a simple matter for the sound editor to swap those two words around.
@@beckyone9837 I don't blame him, I blame all of the editors that managed to miss that lol
and Henry holds his heart when he jumps into the water because Alex has finally removed that last piece of armour....
Nicholas is an amazing actor this scene shows that
Thank you Prime for bringing some more scenes that we have never seen before. If possible, please bring more of these or release Behind the scene for fans or plan for a sequel with the writer and the director for us. We are willing to pay. Love you, Nick.
