Superb, kid! I grew up in the 60s and 70 listening to the greatest rock guitarists in history. Joe Walsh was always my favorite. But I once heard Bono say that Edge may not be the greatest guitarist, but no one has ever gotten more sound out of a guitar than he can. I agree wholeheartedly. Saw U2 several times in the 90s and 2000s. They are my favorite band of all time.
@@TheChenny73 I did not know that. Shame on me! By the way, I have a fabulous artist client who is in the process of drawing a 24 x 36 rendition of the Rattle and Hum album cover for me. I've seen the initial drawing, and it is quite surreal. So fitting.
@@lancehaley9417 I think if I remember right someone asked him to play one of his own songs and he couldn’t because everything was written with the band. So he locked his self in a hotel room until he had written that song. Don’t quote me on that though.
@@TheChenny73 That would make sense. He's thinking about Desmond Tutu's plight in a South African prison and decides to compose the song all by himself.
You really slayed this one. Very well done. I have a guitar like that. It is 30 years old and was made in Japan. I blocked the tremelo put in a Dimarzio. Great sound.
I've loved this song since it came out when I was a little kid. That solo is so huge it's a big reason I started taking the instrument seriously. It set me on a path for life. But I can never get it to sound right because I can't get the delay to sound right. Can get close, but unless you nail it it's not really convincing.
@@edyedyedyedy This is a guitar cover. The vast majority want to hear his guitar standing out from the U2 recording, not volumetrically blending with the U2 recording. We can listen to U2 directly. If you're doing a guitar cover, isolate the guitar distinctly enough so that it stands out from U2's recording if Edge's guitar recording is on the recording playback. Also, ideally, do the guitar cover without any backing,…. for a true isolated guitar cover. Know the song well enough to do so.

I actually have it set to an expression pedal because for some reason it seems to me that the delay changes a tiny bit in the recording. I have it set to be between 346 ms and 366 ms. I also have a very quiet dotted 1/16th note delay at 183 ms
Something I’d like to know is what tempo is this played at? It seems to vary from 124-126 bpm, and the solo seems higher than 128. I’m guessing it just varies from how they played it over the course of the song because I can’t figure it out with the metronome.
You're absolutely right. It does vary as the song progresses. That's why I had to have the delay time mapped to an expression pedal so I could change it with the song. I don't know what the tempo exactly was though
Silver and Gold,Hawkmoon 269,and God part 2 should have been used more in U2's live shows. Great cover, good job. 👍🎸🇬🇧
Extraodinary...great job!
Best cover of this song I have heard
This is Stunning
That brought back some memories. I remember teaching myself this song on guitar when the album first came out. The Edge was my hero in high school.
4:58 : okay edge play the blues 🤟
Awesome!! Rock and Roll stops the traffic!
Great song from one of U2's most underrated albums. Nice rendition
That might be the best cover ive seen, and ive been watching a lot of good ones. Just outstanding.
Really well done! ❤

This song was written by Bono, in fact it’s the first song he wrote on the guitar by himself. He mentions it in several books.

Thanks. Exactly like the record. Beautifully played.
Amen martin. I'm 47 years old and have been a u2 consumer forever. Everyone hated rattle and hum album. I thought it was one of their finest albums

Okay, Edge... Play the blues!
Amazing! Do you have tabs for the breakdown part of the song?
Nailed it just nailed it, the solo was bang on....the solo was a carbon copy, chops, and tone. Whats your Pedal setup?
Do you have an FS-1 pickup in the bridge?
Un video excepcional!! Podrías pasar el preset del axe para descargarlo?? Un saludo

is there a lesson on how to setup effects for this...please...
We don't want to hear U2 prominently,…. we just want to hear your guitar.
Who's this "we" you're referring to? Unless that's the Royal "we", then speak for yourself.

What is the smaller switch between the volume and tone control for?
It adds the neck pickup to any pick up selector position. So it essentially adds 2 more tones to the regular strat.
