"Peace of Mind" by Boston (first album released in July 76). Their stuff is timeless. Like it was written and produced yesterday. Tom Scholz is one of my favorite guitarists. Love his tones. He graduated from MIT and built his own gear and is famous for the "Rockman" effect processor.
Love it!! Thanks for thinks Michael!! And again unbelievable close to the real version (especially the tone, I think the rest is just added by the stadiums "reverb"-effect). Looking forward for the tutorial. Great stuff.
Oh Sometimes I feel like I don't know Sometimes I feel like checkin' out I want to get it wrong Can't always be strong And love it won't be long Oh sugar, don't you cry Oh child, wipe the tears from your eyes You know I need you to be strong And the day is as dark as the night is long Feel like trash, you make me feel clean I'm in the black, can't see or be seen Baby, baby, baby, light my way Alright now Baby, baby, baby, light my way You bury your treasure Where it can't be found But your love is like a secret That's been passed around There is a silence that comes to a house Where no one can sleep I guess it's the price of love I know it's not cheap Oh, come on Baby, baby, baby, light my way Oh, come on Baby, baby, baby, light my way Oh, ultraviolet (oh) Ultraviolet (oh) Ultraviolet (oh) Ultraviolet Baby, baby, baby, light my way I remember When we could sleep on stones Now we lie together In whispers and moans When I was all messed up And I had opera in my head Your love was a light bulb Hanging over my bed Baby, baby, baby, light my way Oh, come on, Baby, baby, baby, light my way Oh, ultraviolet Ultraviolet Ultraviolet Ultraviolet Baby, baby, baby Baby, baby, baby Baby, baby, baby, light my way Baby, baby, baby Baby, baby, baby Baby, baby, baby, light my way Baby, baby, baby Baby, baby, baby, light my way Baby, baby, baby, light my way
@EdgeFan567: It seems to be common knowledge that maple necks are slightly brighter, but I believe few people can tell. Only way to know would be to compare two necks on the EXACT same guitar which rarely possible. Pups and pup selection (quack, bridge, neck, etc.) affect the tone MUCH more. Judge a neck based on how it feels when you play. Radius of the fret board, type of curve (C, V, etc.), finish, fret size are ALL much more important than maple or rosewood. Many miss these factors.
Yes, absolutely. See the other parts of the tutorial. Note this is only Part 1. I use the delay in the Axe-Fx II. Best digital processor on this planet.
@FPSGrogan: Usual Herdim blue. Strings don't matter that much, but I do recommend 0.11s. They chime more than 0.10s in my opinion. I use Rotosound Roto Reds. Very similar to Ernie Ball, but I think the wound strings are smoother.
@BH4462Z: It's just three strings (I'm using main index finger only to mute top strings in case I hit them). Very simple formations. Tricky part is the right had strumming.
@givvenn: I use a midi track in Logic to send PC and CC commands to the Axe-Fx II through the USB cable. Logic sends commands just like a foot controller. Logic is my automated Dallas!
@roscaification I recorded it on my DVR and used Elgato Video Capture to transfer the file from my DVR to an H.264 compressed file on my computer. Whenever I record a show I want to keep, I just hook up the Elgato device to my DVR, play the show and record it. Works great.
@silkensky: Seymour Duncan Hot Rails for Strat (SHR-1). It's their std Hot Rails pup. It's key to this song and WOWY. I believe Edge has them in some of the guitars he uses for this song and WOWY. Fernandes guitars with sustainers come standard with these pups.
Amazing. You're a massive help for people like me. Are you able to play Hawkmoon 269? (Lovetown version is best) I'd love to learn that song and I can't find any decent tabs.
Great job as usual!! I wish I had that automated Dallas Logic thing :) By the way, I think The Edge uses the whammy bar or something during the Fuzz Pi section that starts at 3.24 in your tutorial. It's either that, another effect, or he just moves the finger on the fret to get a kind of "spooky" guitar sound, like a theremin. It can be heard on the Sheffield gig and some others
@U2GuitarTutorials: Play many guitars and get a feel for the frets and thickness of the neck. Do you like how it rests in you hand? Frets to large and "bumpy?" If you are going to play a lot of lead guitar than you probably want a large radius (flatter face) like on a Les Paul, but if you play a lot of rhythm then you may want a smaller radius (more curved face). I like something in between or slightly more curved because I play more rhythm than lead.
@clmsntigr113: Thx! No, I'm taking pressure off the strings with my left hand to mute. Watch my fingers release. Sorry, I don't do tabs. I don't have the time. I'm recording the tutorials and will edit and post them over the coming weeks.
@guitarforlif: Too many to list here. See Fractal Audio's website and forum for lengthy answers to this question. Also, see the manuals which are also on their website.
Do you think Edge used the explorer on the studio version or other type of guitar? I got the Epiphone Explorer GT but I don't know if I can put a pair of those Hotrails on it, I might put some Gibson humbuckers
there is a small mistake in the end of the second verse ( around 2:29) where you constantly play an extra note where The Edge does not in the Rose Bowl version.
@clmsntigr113: Not yet. See my channel page for play lists. Everything I've done is organized by song in play lists. Will be a long time until I get to that one.
Exactly which hot rail pups are those in the neck, mid and bridge? D you like their sound for WOWY and other stuff? They sound killer for this song. Thanks
It can come close but not quite. I have Seymour Duncan Hotrails in this guitar. Edge uses Hotrails on this song. Hotrails are a single coil humbucker. A regular single coil pup won't have the same tone.
@marcb95000 Best to post this question on our new forum: forumdotu2guitartutorialsdotcom. Link on my channel page. Short answer is, yes, the FET drive is a model in the Axe II.
Oh ok nice. Sounds just like Edge! Have you covered Hold me thrill me yet. I have been playing it a lo lately but there are. Few parts I cant figure out.
Great tone Michael! Well, since Am's website was shut down, do you mind posting the backing tracks on your website for download? Can't wait for the rest of the tutorial!
So very well played. If anything this shows what a genius of rhythm Edge really is 💜
rythm and sound designer!
Perfect sound really awesome, Melodic Rhythm at it's finest.
Just discovered this. It’s fantastic to watch and sounds perfect. The jump from the 360 bit back into the chorus “ultraviolet” sounds amazing.

Oh
Sometimes I feel like I don't know
Sometimes I feel like checkin' out
I want to get it wrong
Can't always be strong
And love it won't be long
Oh sugar, don't you cry
Oh child, wipe the tears from your eyes
You know I need you to be strong
And the day is as dark as the night is long
Feel like trash, you make me feel clean
I'm in the black, can't see or be seen
Baby, baby, baby, light my way
Alright now
Baby, baby, baby, light my way
You bury your treasure
Where it can't be found
But your love is like a secret
That's been passed around
There is a silence that comes to a house
Where no one can sleep
I guess it's the price of love
I know it's not cheap
Oh, come on
Baby, baby, baby, light my way
Oh, come on
Baby, baby, baby, light my way
Oh, ultraviolet (oh)
Ultraviolet (oh)
Ultraviolet (oh)
Ultraviolet
Baby, baby, baby, light my way
I remember
When we could sleep on stones
Now we lie together
In whispers and moans
When I was all messed up
And I had opera in my head
Your love was a light bulb
Hanging over my bed
Baby, baby, baby, light my way
Oh, come on,
Baby, baby, baby, light my way
Oh, ultraviolet
Ultraviolet
Ultraviolet
Ultraviolet
Baby, baby, baby
Baby, baby, baby
Baby, baby, baby, light my way
Baby, baby, baby
Baby, baby, baby
Baby, baby, baby, light my way
Baby, baby, baby
Baby, baby, baby, light my way
Baby, baby, baby, light my way
My favorite song ever!

Are you gonna cover the second 1/2 of the song and solo ? Looks like your videos stop in the first section and chorus . Thanks
Muy bueno!!!!! Tome su like!
@RobertRiffs: Thx. The effects to come in future videos. I put the delay times in the comments in the video (in the red boxes).
For these covers I use a midi track in Logic Pro to send the preset and control changes to my Axe-Fx via a USB Midisport 8x8.

Amazing !!!! Michael will you cover the transition played during zoo tv at "I remember when we.." at some point???

Hello man, I'm from Brazil, I think your amazing videos. What effects and delay time you use in Ultraviolet? even more.
What are the main differences between the Axe FX Ultra and the Axe FX II?
Great job man. You play it a bit differently than I do though. Are you palm muting every 4th strum? Can you tab the outré riff for me?
@IPODBAD:
Sure, I'll try to cover it in the tutorial.
@windsindicate
Yes
@IPODBAD
Thx! See Part 15 for Zoo TV version.
Great job. How did you send MIDI CC? I can't see any foot controller
@CharlyHH77:
Not yet, have to transfer presets by hand. Ouch!
Oh ok nice. Sounds just like Edge! Have you covered Hold me thrill me yet. I have been playing it a lo lately but there are. Few parts I cant figure out.
Great sound!!! Can i have same sound with fender american standard pickup??? help!!!!

Your neck pickout is a Fernandes sustainer?
Thanks a lot
whats that midi device you were using to turn off fuzz?
Are you useing a delay pedal? and if so which one?

I always thought it sounded a bit like pride
like,like,like
plz Kite!
2:54 rhythm of chorus is not 'quite' right check out sherm911 ultrviolet he has it down
I listened carefully to a few inter ear monitor versions of Edge himself. Styles can vary. To each their own. I don't claim to get everything perfect.
Compare to the Edge here on 360 version. I'm pretty darn close if not correct. U2 - Ultra Violet (Light My Way)
