Davey O'List--what a great under-appreciated talent who played in a staggering number of awesome bands.
The great Keith Emerson. Nice😊
Keith
This is probably the best version I have seen of them as a quartet. I loved all of them and David O'List was fantastic on guitar--a unique guitar style!
My favourite band of the time. Still have the album. Still amazing today.
That's nice
Great to see this footage with Davy O`List on guitar!
Thanks
Keith Emerson già geniale✌
RIP Keith
Way Ahead Of the Times !!
God Blessed Keith Emerson !
This is a first class recording
Thank you for sharing this clip ... I was there, sitting right behind Keith Emerson ... this Hits-à-Go-Go show was recorded in the afternoon @ the Züspa in Zürich during the FERA exhibition ... and in fact I should have been in school :) ... what a great memory ... when I remember right, I attended 6 of these shows including performances by David Bowie, Humble Pie, Les Sauterelles and many others ...
+Marco Rosenfelder That's amazing! Wow - and you remember it all! I met Keith again in 72 in NY and saw the legendary ELP concert at Madison Square Garden :)
Hi Suzanne ... I sure remember your name as well ! ... during the late 60's and early 70's, I attended several recordings of the Hits-A-Go-Go TV shows, including the one with David Bowie ... great memories to me ...
Very rare find indeed, having Davy O'List in the video is indispensable. This is fantastic and thank you so much for sharing this. Rock on!
What a brilliant find! I used to see them at The Marquee in London at this point in time. O'list was awesome some nights! They were completely different without him. He left and took the Psych with him.
Amazing to be able to see all these rare performances with the click of a button....We live in uncertain but interesting times.....
Magici The Nice!
Amazing... classic footage..!!
Great to see Keith smile so much like a child and the camera focus on the keys timing perfectly as we see Keith's nose meeting at the keys. 3:35
I love the prophetic relevance in our troubled time!
Thanks, hope you enjoy the new album Second Thoughts
Amen
Fantastic, and it has an interview as well!!!
What a treasure!
Cracking performance! Bravo!
Grandi
68 Deutchland ... Think about it
"Nice" music young youg youngs one
Peace & love . .. ...
and Tarkus are comming . .. ... later
Lee Jackson's closing words. "America is pregnant with promise and anticipation, but is murdered by the hand of the inevitable.", were on some issues of the original single - but spoken by American session singer P.P. Arnold's toddler son.
amazing !!
'Blinky' Davison on drums, ex- the Mark Leeman Five. R.I.P.
Brilliant drummer !!
What a joy to see this. Thanks for putting this on here.
Ich war 18 als Farbfernseher eingeführt wurden. Hits a Go-Go kam glaube ich jeweils am Samstag am späteren Nachmittag. Kein Teeneger wollte und konnte diesen Sendungen verpassen. Beste Erinnerungen werden in wach.
this is good. its rare to see a live performance with dave o list
There is another colour clip of them doing Azrael in Rome (1968) which is also on youtube. The clip starts in black and white performing Rondo.
im suprised ive only just heard about this band..they are awesome...im fairly new to the whole progressive rock scene...but after listening to rush, emerson, lake and palmer, king crimson, atomic rooster, and the nice im hooked..i cant get enough..and im only 16
....und ich stimme Dir voll
zu , bin erst 74.
Emerson Rocks!!! thanks for the great post !
Thanks, hope you enjoy Second Thoughts
Loved it!! You really did the heritage proud, and brought it forward into this century. Thanks for doing it, and I hope you are able to make another.
Very early. Davy O'List was still in the group before they became a trio.
thanks so much for posting! easily the best four man version we have!
wordofgord
I love O'List's style and sound, too bad he left, the band was never the same after that.
First time seeing this footage..nice no pun intended. First of seeing David O List playing the guitar with them only to be in the dark.I liked him in the band..but it wasn't meant to be.Does anybody know what became of him afterwards ? I was told he played with Roxy Music but I don't recall that ????
Sooooooo 60's!
Very Nice,..
This must've absolutely blown people away back then to see someone with Keith Emerson's virtuosity stabbing the organ and playing backwards at a time when you had groups like the monkeys the Herman's Hermits and the Dave Clark Five performing what was basically Bubblegum😅
A very interesting statement by Keith during the interview, where he mentions that the knives in the Hammond are "Slightly symbolic of all of the murders and the violence in America that has produced the sort of thing with the president(JFK) being shot, and that sort of thing".
And PFM are great too. That and the Moody Blues too.
Great clip....where has all this stuff been hiding away? :-)
O'list ✌️
Oh our poor, poor Keith, such a...baby here!
You must check out Genesis. The best ones are Yes, and early to mid Genesis, and don't exclude Trick of the Tail from your collection. Also what is really superb is PFM a group from Italy on ELP's Manticore label.
"For those who have a black and white TV I am wearing a yellow shirt" LOL XD
With that 2 minute intro, I get the idea where Mike Myers of SNL got his "Sprockets" satire of German TV, even though this is Swiss tv I get the picture. But this is a great video once it gets going.
1blastman Their take on America in 1969 is chilling considering where we are as a country today.
+1blastman And where exactly are you as a country today?
i like ken dodd👍🙃ees well swingin ennit
Die Moderatoren, The Nice, Lichtjahre auseinander.
Focus and Gentle Giant I have already listend to, also listened to Yes, Genesis (who happen to be one of my favourite bands), Pink Floyd (also another one of my favourite bands), Wishbone Ash and Jethro Tull. Btw I do listen to the Phil Collins Genesis aswell as the Peter Gabriel era aswell, and I prefer Gabriels Genesis, although "A Trick of the Tail" and "Duke" are brilliant Phil Collins Genesis albums! :')
Hi, Noddy
Wir gingen in fast alle HitsAGoGo Sendungen. Wir schrieben and Schweizer Fernsehen welches uns gratis tickets zustellte. Schde das das die einzige sendung auf YOutube ist
Once again, why did all the cameramen back then think they had to replicate an acid trip every time they filmed a rock group ?
Also, interesting comments from them and the hosts, regarding the state of American politics and society back at that time.
The focus was always going to be on Emerson, all credit to him, but O’List never really stood a chance of any limelight next to him. Emerson was shooting for superstardom, the rest of the band were just enabling him. Would loved to have seen O’List advance his career though. He had a hand in the formation of Roxy Music to my recollection.
Imho, Emerson was a once in a lifetime performer. Nobody in this band OR in ELP stood a chance of outshining him. May he always Rest In Peace !!!
I love Genesis! I love Peter Gabriels Genesis much more than Phil Collins, but I love A Trick of the Tail :). I also listen to Yes, and I love them too!
What is America ? Pls see 07:52! Best!Thanx for the upload!
Kinda reminds me of early Deep Purple.
@dragonslayers118
If you're into old school check Focus or UK or Gentile Giant
If you're into new school check Ozric Tenticles.
I enjoy all of it.
Machs gut mein Freund.
" he had with horses, an lady`s by the score ..... "
He had white horses and ladies by the score ......👍😉
Lee Jackson said it all about the good old U.S.A. Who knows how much greater we could have been were it not for the assassinations of King, Malcolm, the Kennedys, and also the wars in Vietnam and Iraq?
@azmarkus The Nice and ELP were two different projects - I know where you're coming from cause all three of ELP were incredible players - but The Nice had a certain charm which was missing from ELP
What is this Germany's version of American Bandstand?😅
They usually also burned the American flag on stage, later, Bernstein banned the release of the song in the States
There must be 10 times more archival footage of The Nice compared to ELP!
I doubt it. Actually no way not even close😮
Europe (not GB) did not "get it" then and still don't "get it" now!!
Elaborate .....please...? What does GB "get" , which the rest of the continent doesn't ? I'm highly curious......
@NeilThompson30 I agree, the Nice seemed to have a bit of an innocence about them as compared to ELP who went about business in a cold & calculating way (engineer extraordinaire Eddy Offord said as much).
Good performance; showing early on that Keith was being held by back and had to find some bandmates that could keep up with him musically (that is, Greg Lake and Carl Palmer). Hilarious melodramatic commentary at the end by the buffoonish bass player, vintage '60's nimrod.
but is murdered by the claw of the Iud
And the idiots who voted for the orange sewer slime trump
Great performance but I've spent the last month of my life fixing an L-100 so this is painful to watch 🤣
Who is this cute boy in tight trousers? Doesn't he know it's dangerous to play with knives like that!? "Why did you put the knives in your organ" Ha!
Davy was heavily into drugs and became just inadequate. He and Emerson were friends and shared a flat but it was impossible to work together with a really loony guy without any sense.
