Kilo G aka Poppa G l must tell you that l had this video on and my younger cousin watched this video with me. @@paine7 oh snap that was him?!! Lol I saw that. He was talking about it was about to go down in the county jail but he wasn't trying ride cause he was only there for a ticket.
POPPA GEE HERE! Thanks for enjoying the gang odyssey we embarked on. Everything I said was a true account from my perspective. Before the interview, the OGs ,who are still alive, advised me not to tell our story. However, I was compelled not to let our history be lost. My account is but one of many accounts of "The US Boys". To all the haters: Well, without a Yen there cain't be no Yang!
That area of Compton, at the time that he's describing, was just that. He's 100% correct in his description. As a matter of fact, that area of Compton that he's speaking of, they had the "best" Christmas decorations in all of L.A. Their Christmas Club was top notch. People from all over L.A. would drive down to view the decorations 🌲
Dude was telling his story then Baby S Mac interjects... "Let's rewind... when did YOU move to Compton?" I like how he takes control of the narrative and guides it to the day one timeline info...
I always thought fruit town was named after all those fruit streets in that particular neighborhood, north of Rosecrans, like Cherry st, Plum st, Peach st, Pear st, and many more fruit streets north of Rosecrans. Also, I thought Tree Top was named after all the tree streets south of Rosecrans, like Spruce st (spruce tree), Maple st (maple tree), Cedar st (cedar tree), Elm st, Poplar st, and Arbutus st are also names of trees. Spook town for having the darkest streets with the fewest street lamps, and before them, was the Ghost Town Grandees (Nutty Blocc) which gave birth to Spook Town and all the Crips in Compton besides Carver Park and Mona Park.
William Duren are you sure about spooktown being named for being dark and “spooky”?? Because I heard the neighborhood around them was originally called “spooktown” by the racist whites at that time and the Crips took it and ran with it....someone told me this, but I dunno. “spook” is an old school derogatory word for blacks!
@@kidkully I'm nowhere near sure. That's what I heard. If anybody got some real facts on that, let me know. I will ask my cousin-in-law Roscoe from the Grandees tomorrow. He was the first Crip in Spook Town hood, and he said his little brother started Spook Town while he was in YTS. Roscoe left around 1973 or 74, and did about 4 years. He said when he came home, his little brother Cartoon had already started Spook Town, which was US boys and red rag territory when he lived there. Big Hauncho said Roscoe and Cartoon started Spook Town. They've been my in-laws for decades, and I talk to Roscoe almost every day, but I don't know his brother Cartoon. He never came around. I've never spoke to him. I saw him way on the other side of El Dorado park at my in-laws big ass family reuinion, but neither one of us bothered to introduce ourselves. Maybe cuz I'm from Nutty Blocc.
William Duren can you also ask him about an og named big jacc from the grandees? If he knew him as well? I think what I just said about spooktown might be true...do you notice spooktowns rags are brown? Maybe to represent black skin color? 🤷🏽♂️
@@kidkully I'll ask. I've heard that name in conversations before. I'm sure it ain't the homie Michael Jackson from the Grandees. He was goin by name Jacc, but not Big Jacc. Also, I know what the derogatory term "spook" means. I got homeboys from my hood (Nutty Blocc) named Big Spook, Lil Spook 1, 2, and 3. Never asked the origin, I just know it's a popular gang name. As for the colors, I always heard the spook towns say, "spook town brown," and the tragniews would say, "powder blue tragniew." I used to sell dope on the Willowbrook traccs in spook town hood with Winky R.I.P. from over there before my hood started beefin' with theirs. I personally gave my hood the color gray in 1987, the next day after the CC Rider meeting. We adopted the New York Yankee symbol that same day too. When I said we gon wear gray, I had already bought a gray rag and put it on my head. We agreed that we need a team, and Lil Woody said, "look cuz, we all got on the same Yankee hats - Young Nutties." We looked, and saw we had it on by coincidence, but the N, the Y, and the blue and gray color was perfect for us.
These are the best videos, the ones that date bac way before a the bullshit. When the city was still beautiful and black folks was really black and together. Good one kev.
You'd have to know that coming from 24th & Main to 135th & Central, was definitely "movin on up." That area around Centennial High, Dooto's, and Sportsman Bowl, was considered the suburbs, and was a very nice area for a long time. My cousins stayed on 139th & Central, right across from the Brickyard. A lot of Blacks in that area had good jobs and careers. Most worked for the aircraft companies such as Northrop, Hughes, North American, and McDonnell Douglas 😺
That's the thing. There's a lot of individuals out of there that has a ton of L.A. history under their hats, but they choose to not come forward with that youthful experience, and they just wish to ride off into the sunset, quietly. You just have to respect that. I also respect the fact that the Brother is respecting their choice of privacy and anonymity 😼
