  • By popular demand, here is PART 2 of my OLD ART! This sketchbook tour spans about 4-5 years, from 2009 to 2015. I used to draw a lot of creatures back then, with the odd pretty lady thrown in.
    Make sure you watch til the end to see my weirdest sketchbook yet!
    I had a bit of extra fun editing this one, I hope you will enjoy it :).

    I love the way you edited this video! It must have taken such a long time!! So cool!! Your sketches are sooooo cool too! Your style from back in the day makes me think of my own school days. Just that freeing feeling of doodling that turned into more complex illustrations. Very awesome.

      Thank you Leigh! It was a lot of fun to edit to be honest, haha. The effect just made me giggle. And yes, that free doodling phase is so fun to look back on :)

    Fantastic, love it! The dark vs pretty sketchbook is really interesting. This is the first time you really see the evolution of what is today your art style. Yes, those bright colours are very "not you" and this is evident in the lack of colour exploration in them ie you have used colour, but as you point out, it was a counterpoint, a type of catharsis to the darker stuff. However, in those colourful sketches I can see the development of fluid lines and plant shapes that come out in your work now, also the use of small dots and splatters. I completely adore the last sketchbook. Just a cacophony of creativity and pure joy.

      Thank you Blue! That last sketchbook feels so me, I really cherish it. I definitely had an almost manichean style back then, with a strong divide between two styles. My path since has been an experiment in merging and combining both in a more harmonious way. Some part of me always sort of thought of my old work as in no way related to what I do now, which of course can’t be true, and obviously isn’t when I look back. It’s a very interesting exercise in introspection :)

    Those watercolour pieces were so beautifully executed :) It was interesting to see that part of your work. Its also so cool to see how this surrealism and creature art has been something you've kind of always done. I also notice that you like to draw patterns a lot, they seem to be a common theme! perhaps thats why you're so good at detail work in inktober :)

      Thank lovely! I do love me some patterns, indeed. Glad you enjoyed the tour, I had fun putting it together, and I am very fond of the pieces and sketchbooks in the video. Means a lot that you watched it :) ps: sorry for not replying on insta yet, I will do asap ❤

    I Love your sketchbook tours! But I miss your guache paintings with your voiceover rambles too!
    I think that those beautiful watercolors you did in your old sketchbook and patterns can be seen as details now in your new art as well (like the pattern in your piece "fragment") even tho you mostly kept the creature aspect. :) ❤️

    • @myriamtillson
      @myriamtillson  4 года назад +1

      Yes, I agree about the patterns, I like to incorporate them in my work, I suspect they’ll take even more of a prominent place in the future :) Don’t worry, I’ll have more paintings soon 😉

    Have you considered doing more sculptural works again? Perhaps attending a ceramics course or guild that will fire the kiln for you? Or other types of sculptural works like casted bronze (albeit expensive) or polymer clay? Just a thought since prosthetic makeup is so sculptural...

    • @myriamtillson
      @myriamtillson  4 года назад +1

      I have indeed, I’ve spoken about it in previous videos and have some sculpting projects slowly evolving. I unfortunately lack the money for courses, and lack the space for sculpting, but I really hope to integrate it into my work more in the future, as I really miss the 3D aspect of art. Particularly painting 3D pieces. I have a number of clays I can work with that don’t require any extensive moulding work, which I’ll start with, but maybe I’ll be able to afford ceramics or bronze some day ☺️

    • @SourEggz
      @SourEggz 4 года назад +1

      Myriam Tillson Yeah, my dude, I understand what you mean about that. That is awesome - I am sorry if my suggestion was redundant. Ha ha ha 😅 but yeah, have you peeped the artists who have combined 3D works with their 2D art via canvas and polymer clay. I dunno, just spitballing. I understand though, I am on a shoestring budget myself.

    • @myriamtillson
      @myriamtillson  4 года назад +2

      Oh no, not redundant at all, it was a great observation, it was a spot on remark in relation to my interest and character, I really appreciated the comment :) I would love to incorporate 3D with 2d for sure! I have tons of ideas for doing that, as well as some about doing my own sculpted frames...etc...I’d need a whole workshop for all my ideas, hahaha. We’ll get there dude 😉
