Just imagine how balanced now insurgents might feel with their iron sights
this new update made me intentionally choose a red dot kit instead of an acog to be better at close quarters fights. I've never done that before in squad ever. this new update is crazy.
cant wait until they give INS new sstuff like they did wid MIL
@@6komodo6 well to be fair the MIL got the Grad truck because the INS already had the rocket pod technical. Does INS need camo nets or other stuff like MIL currently does?
Nah they still suck lol. Just because of the red dots in other factions they still get outclassed sadly.
@@P3RF3CTD3ATH need, no....but anything wud be welcome
I didn't think they would revamp things so quickly
It actually looks enticing
Definitely a work in progress. A lot of bugs, but I can see this fully coming out later this year. I hope they add PiP for the mounted machine guns as well.
Maybe they should allow a bit more time to iron out bugs, but everything they have now should be added soon. Should've been added a long time ago, current game allows for too much lone wolfing and a mindless meat grinder. This new update should encourage actual communication and thought when it comes to squad movement. It will force players to actually communicate instead of going off and doing their own thing. I'm willling to relearn everything for this coming update, which it seems the devs seem to ship on the 21st. I'm all for it, I'll allow bugs and balancing to be ironed out in the coming months. This is what the game needs now. I seriously mean that.
@@LilShrimp01 It looks like it's going to inhibit gunplay in general rather than punish people for "lone wolfing"
@@SSGSteelTigers It might not get rid of lone wolfing outright, but it should encourage team work. Admidtingly, some aspects should be worked on, but I'd rather have this update sooner rather than later. Hopefully the beta testing will iron out some of the qinks, and further updates will flesh out the mechanics. But this update is a long time coming in my opinion.
Slorgs is the most qualified person to comment on this update imo.

That roof fight at 4:30 in old squad would have lasted 2 seconds. NOW
It lasted nearly 3 minutes.
love it.
and it looks so cinematic too. Imagine watching that firefight between two buildings from somewhere else. Exchanging bullets and rockets, goes silent for a minute to gather themselves and then fiirefight starts again. Maybe they call their vehicles or better, their snipers for support to silence the other building since some random peasent ass rifleman cannot one tap anyone anymore. Being able to be in and witness these scenarios in the game will be sooo fun.
@@fenrur26 During the playtest we had a squad set up on a hill about 400m away from an enemy base on another hill, eventually a firefight broke out and all the tracers and rockets flying back and forth between them was so mesmerising to see. Such a good update
@@fenrur26 i saw a similar incident in a russia ukraine war video they were fighting each other from highway 2 side
I think we can use actual fire and movement tactics now. This is great.
Can confirm, crossing open danger areas with supression and getting in close to grenade under the cover of fire are actually viable now, even react to fire drills actually help your chances. It's awesome. hopefully they get to improve the performance some more, the pip scopes can pull some fps from you.
Haven't played this beta, but it seems that way. As of this weekend, Squad is still a meat grinder. But with this new update coming out, I can already see slower gameplay and actual thinking between squad mates and other squads. Current gameplay encourages lone wolfing and mindless running into battle, this update should fix that once and for all.
absolutely the thing that gets me hyped the most. Bound by fire and suppressing is actually gonna have to be a tactic people are gonna have to learn
We could do that anyway it’s just people always run around like idiots
100%. On a side note, I think this is the most overlooked thing when people praise Hell Let Loose. They act like it's the most realistic WW2 shooter ever when in reality there are virtually no squad tactics and the firefights are basically quake 3 twitch fests.
These changes seem really drastic but I honestly love them. My biggest issue with milsims is that a lot of the time it feels like it's up to you to play the way it's intended so if you're good enough you can just ignore all that and solo like in battlefield. The new mechanics actually force you to play in a realistic manor where trying to rambo just gets you killed. Squad out here raising the bar for hardcore milsims and I'm all for it.
Making it incredibly difficult to shoot while moving is both unrealistic and a bad change
@@lordofthepigs888 that's not true at all. shooting on the move when your optic has a zoom higher than 2x isn't easy.
You can absolutely run and gun solo in real life, you just can’t respawn
@@vast9467 Yes running full sprint for 2 minutes then having almost perfect aim with PiP optic is totally realistic, not. Maybe with a red dot or irons.
@@lordofthepigs888lol. Yes, tell me you shoot easily while strafing and crouch spamming in real life. You can’t.
I used to be deep in the PR world, I played Squad once before the release and gave up hope right away. This update looks to be as significant as PR 1.0.v as squad finally can call itself a sequel to PR. Hopefully the more arcade aspects they take out will weed out the loan wolf players and bring back the teamwork we all love from the PR community. Thank you Slorgs for keeping the voice of the diehard PR players preferences on gaming relevant.

Same, I loved PR and could stand more than 10 hrs of quad after release.
I like how this update will encourage people to push and get close to the enemy instead of trying to snipe them from 300m away
Longer engagement distances are cool though
I hope it’s sarcasm because the meta now is to just hold so you get the aim advantage, you get punished for moving and trying to outplay people
@@MrGlen1234567890 thats why you need to play with your team and surpress.
Well 50/50. Supporting/covering element will supress for afar while the moving/assaulting element gets close and personal. Just like in real life.
@@MrGlen1234567890 wow so like real life
I'm happy, You're enjoying it hopefully they stick to this route. Been really enjoying i have seen some peope being very vocal about their displeasure about them slowing down the combat though, Even if i understand where they're coming from I love this squad way better gonna change the whole meta can't please everyone I guess.
Exactly, you can't please everyone. At some point, you have to make the decision of what kind of game you are. If you try to be a casual and hardcore FPS, you will lose both audiences. Luckily for us, it looks like they're starting to decide to be a hardcore realistic FPS, of course, that will mostly turn off the casual CoD players.
I played it for a bit and it really changes the way people play. Even simple scenarios you notice a difference in the intensity of it. It's a lot more methodical. I think they need to work out some bugs with the scopes and maybe slightly dial back a few of the changes, but other than that it's amazing so far.
I'm also a PR vet and stopped playing Squad eventually due to how shallow and twitch the combat was, still love the game. This update paves the way to do something other than endless aggressive rushing and I found it fulfilling. There's still the issue of winning games by spamming HAB's and funnelling blueberries onto caps, but the arcade gameplay to me was always more important to solve.
The game just needs to slow down and reward strategic effort more, especially for Squad Leaders, and this did it for us in the test, though it wasn't a "real" match.
8:55 THIS to me is absolutely standout. It made me now remember the amount of times our Squad decimated lone wolves by being together. A massive improvement to me.
4:25 you can tell you both spot each other at the same time. Current Squad you'd be dead but with the sway you got the upper hand via suppression before he could steady his weapon. So sick.
That's not deviation - it's just a sway multiplier! That means when it increases the core maxim of collimation remains true: "Point of aim, point of impact." It's just that your point of aim aggressively flies around all over the place until you steady yourself. Now we have the best of both worlds
Well the deviation in pr tries to simulate the same thing so i get why pr veterans call that this way.
@@sabbutthesabiruone9082 exactly, you can't really do swaying in BF2 so that's why they did it that way
Yup. Sway multiplier is much more realistic. It is almost exactly how it is. In real life. With a real gun, the point of aim is exactly where the bullet will go( except for at extremely long ranges with drop and wind). If you miss your shot, it is because YOU did not aim correctly, not because of the gun. That bullet is always going to fly straight out of the barrel wherever it is pointing no matter what with only a few millimeters of difference at normal shooting ranges/distances.
I always disliked when games made the bullet or bullet point of impact be different than where the barrel or sight is aiming, it is just not realistic especially when the gun your aiming is completely still. (Like in BF2, your bullets will land FEET away from where you are aiming with the barrel - I love this game but always hated that system). No gun in real life will the bullets land FEET away from where the barrel is pointing unless your barrel has blown out and has no rifling anymore and has become a smooth bore barrel or unless you are shooting extremely long ranges.

I've been playing this game off an on over the years and graphicly and everything else. It's just so fun, especially when people play together. It's just unlike any other game.
the shooting/firefights seems more realistic now, bullets just dont go straight like IRL it can deviate depending on how your holding rifle/pistol. Much more thought taken into not being killed lol. A much needed update IMHO
Picture in picture scopes should be the standard for any game wanting to be realistic I think, just adds so much to the weapon play. All the changes look awesome, 8:16 nice shot btw, annihilated that guy
The reason they aren't standard is because it almost doubles the amount of rendering and vram needed.

You should be able to have your gun ready without shooting, if they fix that its amazing. Obviously with arm stamina.
I’m also a PR veteran. I think the changes are spot on, if anyone cares.

"it's like I'm playing Project Reality, but with graphics"
- Slorgs 2023
just as funny, as it is real innt?
This is straight up every Project Reality fan's wet dream. The fact that you can't fully stabilise when hurt or not healed after a rez is so nice, too. I'm loving the care OWI is showing, and I'm hoping we can one day fully realise the vision of modern PR, with proper combined arms, heli gun runs, jets and what-have-you. (Although I do think some Squad maps are way too confined for that type of action.) Some of my favourite PR moments come from Al Basrah, Lashkar and Fallujah ops. MEC faction was so dope, too, running around with a Tavor.
This actually looks so good wtf, even jut having suppressive fire is a huge change
They can add more realism to it by strongly increasing the screen shake while ads full auto shooting, when full auto shooting a gun irl your vision will be affected by the receiver shaking while full auto shooting
now we need PiP for emplacements and vehicles, imagine if you had to actually look through lenses with a slightly modeled interior in vehicles, just like the gunner sight they could get damaged as well
This looks incredible! The panic when you see an enemy is so real now, and suppression works as intended. Wow!
EDIT: Can't wait to see all the tears when sorting by negative reviews on Steam now 🍿
Perfect, the players base will be clean
Just remember to give positive reviews also, if they indeed meet the standards we want for realism. They should be rewarded for actually giving us what we've wanted this entire time.

Ive been in the range for hours because of how nice it was
I was in a 25 minute fire fight lastnight, took about 50 minutes to capture center point and we won the match. Probably the best fire fight I’ve ever had.
I tried it yesterday for the first time and it was so much fun. In one particular moment I was with almost my entire squad as we fought thru trenches to take the airfield, using lots of suppressing fire and teamwork. It was glorious. I like this direction. Nice GL shot at that pipe btw, that was well done.
I was stoked when I saw the firt announcement and the more I see the more excited I get. As a “milsim” vet I’m so fucking glad that we aren’t going to lose squad to emotes and bullshit. Faith restored.
Agree
I’ll miss the parkour 😢
I'm gonna give Squad another shot!
Whatever your opinion, pro or anti the new overhaul, ya gotta admire the balls on them for making such a drastic change at this stage.
The overhaul update literally reminded me of Project Reality, and is kinda nostalgic...
PSA: If you stop sprinting at yellow, wait for regen to max and then sprint again, you end up traveling JUST AS FAST as if you hold down sprint and enter every firefight with no stamina. It's been like this for a while, but I think it's actually going to matter after the update.
I worry squad is going to become "I can't see shit simulator 2023" as they keep piling on these post processing filters. Also, performance is already really bad and people are saying this update hurts framerates even more.
Oh. Second PSA: Turn off AA. Squad has really terrible AA that makes scopes markings barely legible while still and then completely disappear on movement. I imagine it's going to be even worse after the update. Somehow.
I Played this new update on the test server and it does not hurt performance at all... I have i5 7600k and 1060 6Gb and my game still runs stable at 180fps with mediums. (same settings as live patch).

Before this update, I NEVER touched iron sights, red dots, or holos due to how impractical they are most of the time. But now? I can see myself choosing them over other optics if I'm not fighting in a desert.
However, I do hope they nerf the ads recoil sway because it's nowhere near that bad if you have moderate experience with a firearm. Especially on an AR platform
this looks more like pr now, and i love it
I used to feel Squad lacked the fun element I remember of PR so never got into it (particularly insurgency). I also missed the quieter times where you're a tight squad on a stealthy move between flags/locations, scoping areas out. Maybe I just missed that with Squad due to sheer lack of playtime though (before I gave it up), but it just felt like all action all the time with no organisation within the squads I was in. Now and again though I'll watch some Squad on here to see if things seem better. Not totally convinced just yet, but it might be time to give it another go after seeing some of this...
This game is about to become totally amazing!!!
This honestly just feels like a new player update to make the game seem a little easier on all the new people joining squad so they dont get railed hundreds of meters away, get discouraged and just leave. Some of this new gun handling feels like these characters have never held a firearm in real life at all. Really seems like they are just trying to handicap everyone a little bit so the fights last longer and 3-4 players just dont wreck the whole enemy caps/team. Low/mid skill players are at even more of a disadvantage now. Just shooting players will largely be luck for them. Skilled players will largely remain untouched, and lone wolfing has actually been buffed surprisingly
Lots of the time all it takes is 2-4 decent people at the game and they can usually take on most of the full squads at once and end the whole infantry game on the map. So they're trying to limit that and make the games last.
Oh man project reality but the maps don’t take a trillion years to load, seems right up my alley lol
I've never wanted to play squad more in my life
might just be me but looking down the 1p78 scope with the new effects just feels like I’m watching a new PR. Love it.
nice to see squad stepping into the authentic concepts that were defiled in hell let loose to occupy that space in realistic fighting conditions
The dude saying „happy birthday“ when the second heli crashes.
3:42 I'm probably wrong but it seems like the trigger hand is fatigued causing the gun to tilt up. to me logically your brace hand would fail first as its holding the outstretched weight of the weapon causing the gun to droup when ADSing. Idk something just looks un-natural about the ADS, there were a few other instances of it visible through out.
its just so great to see them having taken that step and the insane results.
Curious if it'd be at all viable to make insurgents move a little quicker as a faction, to lean into the asymmetric aspect. Could justify it as a lighter kit kinda thing.
So cool cant wait to see it on live servers. It will be a fun journey :D I hope they expand the mounting feature to every weapon.
I had a 70m game on PTR and it was absolutely a blast. The longer fights feel so much better than instant taps. Loads of fun and I am looking forward to playting more later today.

@@INS0MN1A_N3 Exactly it makes the game alot more skill based.
I like the direction they're going. PiP scopes are great, making reminisce about Insurgency 2014. They could probably reduce some things though.
I love how much you love it ! it's awesome , true.
They got the ACOG spot on (I've used the in-game M4 in that exact configuration), but I don't really like the blur when you shoot. I think the recoil is enough.
1:35 you called them deviation bars, but from what I could gather they are actually "stability bars" measuring how stable your aim is. Meaning you will still be able to fire where your aim is. And correct me if I'm wrong, but in project reality they are deviation bars meaning they measure how inaccurate your shots will be resulting in your shots not going exactly where your aim is.
machine gunners are actually gonna be able to be terrifying now
I have a question, back when I was in high school used to love watching Bluedrake’s Project Reality videos. From what I understand he stopped because of a disagreements with developers? What was the disagreement if anyone knows.
Having mechanics that will reward players that play realistically and punish players that play unrealistically is all i have ever wanted. Finally the people that play realistically will have the upper hand. Can't wait to play this. People running and gunning was the whole reason i stopped playing squad. They would just run around and get close quarter kills.
So happy to see infantry get a great overhaul in Squad. I hope vehicles get a touch up some day.
vehicles argueably get the most out of these changes. Supression for vehicle frag is huge now and due to the slower movement speed vehicles are now very important for transporting inf
@@spencergalland5754 vehicles need a complete overhaul in regards to howbthey drive. All wheeled vehicles only apply traction to one wheel for instance. I love the new way so keen for it 🧠🖤
Grenade needs a better suppression, at 5:52 you can notice the grenade did nothing but it was just outside the door
What would be really amazing is for realistic concussion effects, like getting completely knocked unconcious for a short time from close large explosions. Also, I think it would be excellent if you got forcibly knocked down from rifle caliber and higher rounds, so that you can't just return fire like when getting hit as if you are superman or something. Pistol rounds usually won't knock you down, but rifle rounds will.
Literal game changer. I played the game once when I first bought it and haven't played it since. I'm gonna try the game out again once this update releases.

I am so beyond happy for this update. I recently stopped playing because of how arcadey the game currently feels
This is basically just the PR:BF2 spread based system but improved upon with more realistic depictions of inaccuracies in shooting.
This update is exactly what the game needed. I was afraid Tencent was going to fuck up the game, glad to see OWI still has a say in its future. I'm considering buying emotes or whatever DLC they come up with to show support. This is how things should be done: treat your community well, it'll pay you back by staying loyal and supporting the devs every so often.
It is amazing they decided to fix the game.
when does the update come live? I cant wait to jump back in! :) This looks absolutely amazing!
Will def be picking this game up. As soon as this update drops…
Did they even upgrade the effect of hot brass leaving the m249?
The squad I have been wanting for years after coming from project reality
My question is how the hell did you see any of those dudes laying stationary in foliage or immediately tell where to return fire when someone near you is engaging. You turn and burned them in 1 second after hearing their fire and the guys laying down just looked like any other patch of grass
What can I say, I'm the best
I'm worried about performance loss because of PIP... is it noticeable? Squad is not really well optimized game for its graphics...
I wish Stalker had shooting mechanics/details like that. Never fired a weapon IRL but I think this is the most realistic one comparing to every game I've seen.

Thanks Slorgs.
Didnt squad already have an overhaul a few years back?
I hate run and gun mechanics because they ruined battlefield. this is literally perfect
the guns that are built construction that haves scope are with this effect too?
they could do like enlisted about the aiming part, that way the guns keep being precise but your arm is not. What do you think?
I just hope they eventually add an option for picture in picture scopes cuz I know it's gonna tank peoples performance
Well that defeats the purpose doesn't it? Squad is a demanding game, poorly optimized sure, but if you have a good rig you get good performance. It is impossible to please everyone, the people with lower tier or older rigs just have to accept that squad will have poor performance for them.
I think they will probably let you change the render resolution of the scope like in the original insurgency game
@@XGoblinHunterX reforger let's you pick
Haven't seen a big hit to my performance. My guess is that the low FOV + blur outside the scope means that they are rendering less and at a lower resolution outside the scope to make up for the lost performance.
i have an older setup and the performance is only slightly worse and will hopefully get better if they do some optimisation. however, the PIP scope looks really blurry and low resolution (like an oil painting) which i hope is a bug because if that's just how the scopes look with the hardware i have it would make squad unplayable for the forseeable future. I've seen a few other people complain about this as well.
Edit: I've just realised that the game in general looks lower resolution in the playtest, even though I'm using the same settings as in the actual game
The thing that scares me about these updates is that they are going to change Squad that drastically. Most of the updetas are welcome ones, but to change the game this much might alienate many players overnight. I have always been saying that Squad is a lighter/arcadey version of arma, which is why I love it, but changing the game this much after launch is a bit much. I do know that the game was supposed to be more like Project Reality, if the devs wanted it to be more like that, these changes should have been implimented before launching the game. Then again, who knows if they tweak the updetas to be just right, it could be great for the game. I just have my own reservations, until they are implemented.
PiP means the picture is rendered twice.
Did this affect fps?
It's crazy how advance the engine works 😮
Your video was the video I wanted to see as far as coverage goes
It really got me interested in Squad
Been playing HLL for a couple of years, thinking I should pick this up. When does the update come out? Would it be a good time to start?
Don't know when the actual update comes out but I know the next major update at the end of June won't have this. It's currently on the pte until Tuesday I believe
Liking the change but if they could make the ads blur progress whether it be gradually or rapidly during battle depending on the scale of or intensity of said battle, that could be neat.
Like the saying goes "it gets worse, before it gets worse"
