Awesome. Given all of this, ending with The Dragon Never Sleeps will be like ending with as big a bang as you can hope for.

This Starfishers series sounds like such a hidden gem - thanks for putting it on my radar! Unfortunately I only see his fantasy in used bookstores

I ended up buying all my Glen Cook SF novels online. Fortunately the Nightshade Books trade paperbacks are pretty nice(and cheap).

Found this video and its like a gem, was looking for a good science fiction that did characters right, and the concept of switching from different characters pov never gets old to me, especially when the author know how to get the most out of the different perceptions everyone has of the world around them. never heard of you or Glen Cook but now im checking out black company, I love mercenary stories !!!

I'm glad you found the video!
The Black Company series is Glen Cook's best work but his SF stuff is right behind it.
The Black Company series basically invented the Grimdark genre.
I hope you enjoy his works!

Another great video, satisfying to see someone else who appreciates Cook's SF work! By the way, you didnt mention Jerry Pournelle's Falkenberg series when you were talking about great Military SF. I just wanted to point his series out if you hadn't stumbled across it. Great read!

One of those authors like Stephen R. Donaldson that is much better known for his fantasy than his sci-fi. I’ve only read the. First 6 Black Company so far but tend to buy any Cool book I find.

Donaldson is one of those writers I need to finally read. I own a bunch of his books.
I have heard good things about his SF stuff.

Oh baby, you haven’t read The Dragon Never Sleeps yet!
Just as a thing to consider with how many books Glen wrote: he says that he’d written a lot of this stuff in the seventies and early eighties. So he got a ton of books published around the same time, but much of it had been written earlier. Still incredibly productive, but not all at once.

@@JosephReadsBooks nice. I think Instrumentalities and Dragon Never Sleeps are masterpieces, but they both really throw you into the deep end.
For Instrumentalities, it helps to understand that the world Glen is presenting is basically the 12th century Mediterranean world with different names and gods are real.
I also quite like A Matter of Time, but it’s kind of an odd little read.

5 novels in one week!? Are they short novels? Did you listen to the audiobooks at 2x the speed? 😂

Sung in Blood is a super short book.
The other 4 were on audio but I can't listen at 2x speed. It sounds like gibberish 😂.
I spent about 40 hours listening to audiobooks in that week.
