I could certainly see how, with only the in-game sprites and the box-art, the look of this manga formed. They actually did a solid job converting it into manga form and utilising it in both comedy and action scenes (the Screw Attack artwork looked particularly awesome).
I was aware of the panel at 0:53 but had never seen the rest. The comical tone is funny to think about given Metroid nowadays but this manga seemed to serve as a fun guide of the game for players and was a joy to see here. Great job narrating it!

6:33 That image does a pretty good job at conveying how the Rio AI works. They swoop down, and if they reach the ground will continue traveling horizontally, but if Samus jumps they will swoop back up. While not the only foe on the NES to react directly to the player's actions, as Mega Man's robot masters often do the same, and it can lead to moments like the Crash Man Dance or Skull Man Staring Contest, this was the first enemy I actually noticed this kind of behavior in, and it was simple enough to master that I felt like I was controlling Samus as well as the Rios with my controller.

It could probably done via a flipbook effect in the manga.
Have parts of no suit Samus drawn on the margins at the side, and if you flip through the pages quick enough, it'll show a more or less complete, combined drawing of her, emulating the speedrun reference.

I'm quite convinced that Metroid (and some other series) only took off as hard as it did, establishing a long lasting franchise, due to 'the west' treating it more seriously than Japan did.

I remember reading somewhere that when creating "Metroid" Satoru Okada, Hiromi Kiyotake and Yoshioka Sakamoto were heavily influenced by Masami Yuuki's "Birdy The Mighty" manga from 1985, which likewise featured a female action protagonist and a pulp sci-fi/retro future aesthetic. Supposedly there's a magazine interview out there which confirms all this, but I've never been able to track it down. It's an interesting footnote if it's true, though.

    Samus: acquires Varia Suit
    Moments later
"Any more heat would scorch our hero inside that protective suit of armor"
I know this manga is plenty old, but not seeing the Varia Suit be able to protect Samus from extreme temperatures is so bizarre. That wasn't established until Super Metroid, but it does make the Varia suit in the original Metroid feel anti-climatic these days.
On another note, the lack of color is a mixed bag in regards to the Varia Suit's appearance. On one hand, the Varia Suit basically looks no different from the Power Suit now. On the other hand, you don't have to see Samus run around in a pink suit with this manga. Heck, it allows for me to instead imagine it as an orange version of the Power Suit (like the initial Varia Suit in Zero Mission).
Yes, I know the Power Suit was originally intended to be orange. However, I'm used to the Power Suit being yellow. Which has been the case with this series since the official artwork for The Return of Samus (that game basically cleaned up the design and made it primarily yellow). The only exceptions since then have been the Fusion Suit (basically the Power Suit stripped down) and in Metroid Dread.

So funny thing about the lack of color in the comic. It was the lack of color on the Gameboy thst led to the Varia Suit's now iconic design. The Samus pictured on the box art for the Gameboy game is the Varia Suit for anyone wondering.
And then as you mentioned, Super Metroid added a third suit, the Gravity Suit and changed the functions. The Varia Suit protected you from heat but not lava. The Gravity Suit let you move normally under water and protected you from lava. The Varia suit had big shoulders and orange accents. The Gravity Suit was the same but got purplish accents instead of orange.

I get this is meant to be a comedy manga, but I still find it a shame it tries to be so cutesy. The artist or artists don't really get to truly shine most of the time. Wish there was more moments like the neat Chozo statue at 7:44. Or panels at 6:40, 10:10, and 10:58. Not to mention the kinda impressive moment at 18:58.

@@GTV-Japan yeah Yukio Sawada’s SMB3 was never collected in a volume since it only had two chapters, I was lucky and able to snag some scans from a friend that he printed at a local children’s library/museum! So I have scans of the 6 SMB2 chapters not recorded in a volume and the 2 chapters of SMB3(not recorded in a collected volume)
In the third to last chapter of the SMB2 manga, Mario accidentally hatches a koopaling in the hallway leading to bowser’s room! So a nice lead into the SMB3, and the final chapter of the SMB2 manga has Mario merging with all the friends he met along the way to defeat Fake bowser! I also love the stuff Yukio Sawada predicted in the SMb2 manga like a flying cape, baby Mario, baby bowser, etc…
The two chapters of the SMB3 manga goes like this:
Chapter 1: mario learns about the koopalings stealing the magic wands and transforming the kings into animals so him and Luigi set out on their adventure, and Goomba(their friend from the SMB2 manga) gets powered up by bowser becoming paragoomba (this also mind controls goomba) while Mario is being attacked by Goomba and his babies, a hammer bro comes out and attacks mario but mario dodges and hits the hammer bro with a fire ball causing the HB to exploded and one of its hammer’s hits a ? Block revealing a super leaf mario grabs the leaf and becomes Raccoon mario and the first chapter ends.
Chapter 2: Mario defeats the mini goombas and paragoomba with a tail whip, him and Luigi head to the first fortress where they meet boom-boom, Luigi feeds Mario a hammer which causes Mario’s tail to take the shape of a hammer letting Mario defeat boom-boom. On their way out of the fortress Mario receives a letter from princess peach that contains a P wing. ParaGoomba shows back up and Mario uses the P wing on Paragoomba which purifies the Goomba from bowser’s control and ends the wanapaku comic version of SMB3!

I love how this manga has Samus with these women in bikinis posing with her, and Samus saying she loves it because it's kinda implying Samus is a lesbian, also I don't think she's shown attraction to a guy besides a non-canon guy from a Super Metroid comic from Nintendo Power.
