Lovely tone. And lovely choice of tunes. I also discovered bowed psaltery at a crafts fair, and ordered one. He made bowed psalteries and dulcimers, and I already had a dulcimer.
We just ordered a bowed Psaltrey from a gent in Virginia. Came across your video, and decided this will be one of the first tunes we learn. Well done and thank you.
Lovely playing...and I loved your background music. I honestly have never seen anyone hold it the way that you do, but it works very well. I play banjo, but recently broke my arm and am in a cast. I've had a bowed psaltery in my living room, more for decoration, but now I am playing it. It's getting me through a pretty tough time!
Beautiful rendition of the songs. Your psaltery looks like a Dave Lucas one. I have one of his also and like it very much. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.
I just went to the craft fair this past Tuesday and they were there. Truly an amazing instrument. I wanted one but they are a bit out of my price range. For just picking it up you do a wonderful job. Thank you for the upload.
Beautiful craftsmanship, and a nice sound for a bowed psaltery. I really enjoyed the medley of The Water Is Wide and Shenandoah. I've never heard those two songs combined before; but once I heard it, it was like, "Of COURSE! It's an obvious combination!" My brother's girlfriend brought a bowed psaltery to our annual family holiday get-together last year. I was taken with it, so she loaned it (her idea) to me for a few days to "get the feel of it". My 8-year-old niece, who visits me regularly, loved it and was playing songs on it after only a few minutes with it. The psaltery dates back to Bible times. David mentions it and other instruments in Psalms many times. From what I've read, though, the bowed psaltery is a 20th century invention; so the plucked psaltery would be the type to which David referred. That said, I enjoyed your playing. I'm curious, though, as to who your accompanying guitarist is. Thank you for posting this video.
This Wiegen Snoa written by Rubert Wigg. It is played all over Scandinavian. I play on the Accordion for Scandinavian Dance. I bet you anything that Scandinavians brought it down to Scotland. Those good old Vikings.
Nice. I grew up on blugrass and country, now I usually prefer Beethoven, Sinatra, and Megadeth, what a mixture. I plan on making a simple autoharp type instrument, and while looking for inspiration to improve my design, I found a somewhat damaged Ukulin cheap, so I ordered it. I think these unique type intruments sound really beautiful. Thank you for playing.
Oh my gravity! I love that song you played, I'd like to get one of those and learn to play, where can I get one and did the music that was playing come with it? It was sooo beautiful!! : )♡♡♡
Hi Kay! Come join us at Psaltery Strings...it's an all bowed psaltery network. I'm glad you liked the bowed psaltery, we all love it! psalterystrings.com
after doing some research your psaltery is the only one I see with a long bow like one for violin. I really like the sound. Could you tell me what the brand or maker is?
hi! beautiful! sorry can you explain to me how can i reconise a normal psaltery from a bowed one? is just for the bow? i love it but i'm still thinking ''what to buy? psaltery or dulcimer?'' maybe i'll buy each other but i want to start with the easier one.. please help me :D what do you recommend?
Are there alto and soprano options for a psaltery? I have never heard of that before. Wouldn't that be like saying an alto or soprano harp? I don't think there is such a thing; although the viol family runs the entire gamut. The alto version of a violin is the viola (or is the violin the soprano version of the viola?), the cello is the baritone version of the violin, and the bass viol is the bass version of the violin; so I guess it would be possible to have a soprano or alto bowed psaltery.
I recently got one at a fair in the North Georgia Mountains maybe same guy? Jon Williams www.williamspsalteries.com jon@williamspsalteries.com Mine has 24 strings.

I knew I wanted one as soon as you played the first note! Beautifully haunting❤️
If this was on a CD, it would be on Repeat. So beautiful..
That’s so awesome. I read that they were used in the Renaissance era initially. Reminds me of the ukelin.
Is that hard to get a good sound from?
My son received one as a gift today! It is beautiful! Thankyou for this

Enjoyed your music on the psaltery. Very relaxing and serene!

LoL you have instruments for decoration? You must be rich! ))
She is using a violin bow.
Psaltry bows are much different and are held up a third higher to be able to get to the #'s on the opposite side.
Did your psaltry not come with a bow?

NEVER saw this instrument before!!!! Thank you so much!!!

You are the first person I've ever seen hold it like that and now I will try that for myself!
That was lovely--and what a beautiful psaltery! Thank you

I got my psaltery at the same place! I love mine!!!
Where did you get it?
I got it at a craft fair in the smokeys.

Just lovely! I'm intrigued by your bow. What can you tell me about it?
Sounds great, Miss Kay!

Qué bonito se escucha
This is so cool
It sounds like a violin without a sound bar.
Inspiring!

Bowed psaltery is more triangle shaped while plucked psaltery is more isosceles trapezoid shaped
Ive never seen someone playing a psaltery like a violin o.0
Would you recommend this bowed psaltery or what do you think now that you’ve been playing for a while ?
lovely
Is this an alto or soprano? It has a lovely fiddle-type sound. You put a nice video out for us. Thank you.

Very beautiful. We Arabs call psaltery (رباب)
Ignore this bigot. Not all of us are ignorant, bad mannered slobs.
بهاء كاظم !Awesome
Lovely
great job
WOW-where did you buy this one? Can you refer me to the place-in order to buy one.
I have one, but yours is different and the bow.what is yours called so I can bellowing for the one you have.
Pretty
Psaltery isn't played in bluegrass but is more of an old-timey instrument. You play well though, thanks.
Can anyone tell me if this is an alto, or tenor please
Where did you buy yours?
How many strings?
I recently got one at a fair in the North Georgia Mountains maybe same guy? Jon Williams www.williamspsalteries.com jon@williamspsalteries.com Mine has 24 strings.
bowed psaltery sounds much better if you use two bows to armonize, that is the reason you should not played it as if it were a violin.
Actually, I could do without the accompanying guitar. I want to hear just the psalter.
Very pretty. Thanks
