    This is great news since going hclf vegan salt has been the hardest thing for me to restrict.

      Me too! It has been tough but I am finally getting a better handle on fat, but the salt is really tough. If I can't have fat I need some flavour. Ha ha.

      balderdashery G Right!!! I try and try to enjoy the plain flavor of my veggies but just a bit of salt makes all the difference. I'm so excited.

    This was great! As a person who has had to go to the hospital for low blood pressure, I found that adding salt into my diet has actually helped keep my blood pressure steady. I don't go crazy and I strive to eat more potassium in my HCLV Vegan Diet. Thanks for this info!

      I find that my blood pressure and sugar levels go up on a low salt diet. Dr. Guthrie is spot on with this message!

      Me too Sheedah! I almost pass out when I have no salt. I'm surprised to hear this but delighted I can put liquid aminos on my rice!

    He is right! With potassium you can equal out the sodium. But I just use a bit of salt. Great Video! :-)

    What a pleasant man to listen to. Happy to hear more information on the whole salt-issue. Ever since discovering Mc Dougalls work I have been adding a bit more salt to my food and haven't noticed any negative affects, only the positive that I'm enjoying my food more ;) I guess eating salt leads to some more water retention in the body, but unless you're a Victoria's Secrets model I don't think that should be a thing to worry about.

    • @RiPETechnologies
      @RiPETechnologies 9 лет назад +2

      Totally! And FYI, salt will NOT cause water retention if you get adequate potassium and exercise daily.

    Well *this* is great news! Most of us here eat a truckload of potassium-rich foods! Nice to know adding a little salt might actually be better than none.

    Yea! I think this might be true I felt lousy on no table salt when i added it back i felt so much better we need sodium to go with a high potassium(fruit&veg) diet

    6 GRAMS of salt??

  • @orangemoonglows2692
    @orangemoonglows2692 9 лет назад +1

    i think this is common sense advice for people who avoid processed foods and almost entirely eat whole foods. a person who eats a s.a.d. diet with lots of boxed foods should probably watch their salt intake; that's where they are getting their salt.

    Awesome talk. I developed RVOT 2 and a half years ago, just 6 months after becoming vegan/ SOS free. I have consulted EVERYONE on this and finally started supplementing with 4 ozs of coconut water a day ( high in potassium) and I think it just might be working. I don't usually as a rul eof thumb add salt but use soy and tamari etc.

      Mcdougall refers to Walter Kempner is one of his mentors yet the main point of his rice and fruit diet was it’s extremely low sodium level as well as low protein

    Can someone share this with Freelee the banana girl? I would like her thoughts on this?? Curious. When I cut salt out & was eating a lot of bananas, my BP went out of control and I developed pulmonary issues. I've added salt back and I've been feeling much better!

    • @mickybyrne60
      @mickybyrne60 9 лет назад

      The reason Freelee doesn't like salt is because she gets water retention in her face, it makes her puffy.

      FruityFitNatic same thing just happened to me, I was eating lots of dates and bananas, frozen mangoes & pineapple in smoothies and my blood pressure went way up and I developed a rapid heart beat. I was eating too much salt on the grains, beans & salads and between that and tons of fruit sugar it made things worse. A little salt is ok but with high BP I wouldn't overdo it.

  • @mowthpeece1
    @mowthpeece1 6 лет назад

    My BP went from 120/70 to 97/69 with less than two months of 90% vegan eating. I use salt liberally... if I didn't use salt I'd probably keel over with no blood pressure at all! (my bp probably dropped much sooner than two months but i just hadn't tested it before now).

    I think we need clarification if this is just Dr. Guthrie's opinion or Dr. McDougall supports this as well. There is nothing like confusing the interested audience. In some videos, Dr. M has said it's OK "if you need to" salt your food. How much is 6 grams of sodium??? Who knows how much potassium is supposed to be present. What a joke. How are people realistically supposed to know what to do with this information.

      If you eat the McDougall diet or one of its cousins, like the whole-food, plant-based diet, your heartburn is almost certain to go away.

    If anyone says that your GOD (in Nutrition, in faith and religion, in Thinking, in success....) wants to keep one thing OUT (mikro- or macronutrient, a special race, a certain believe and so on) DON'T trust him|her. A grain of salt, fats or carbs are not bad at all.
