Nice to see and very relaxing. I think that is one of the best state parks in the Texas system. Let’s keep that from being publicized though. I do think Gorman Falls is the crown jewel out there and very nice when it’s hot. My wife and I came across a cottonmouth in one of the pools people wade when it was sunset. Looks like it has been dry in the area.
Yeah up until yesterday it has been really dry all around here. Colorado Bend is one of my favorites. Some very underrated and scenic trails. Thanks a lot for watching.
Hey I appreciate your quality videos. Im headed out there tomorrow for my first overnight solo hiking . Your videos have been extremely helpful in planning the distances and stuff. Many Thanks
Came here in the winter 2 years ago. Was gonna come in the summer last year but we had that huge drought and everything was dried up. The Gorman Falls is a must see, but imo the Spicewood canyon/springs is the trail to go on. This whole park though is amazing for hiking. Looking forward to finally going in the summer and getting to swim in the springs. Let's hope we get good rain this spring!
Yeah the water was nice. Would have been nice to just hang around the pools and river all day. Man its hot this summer! Or I'm getting real soft the older I get. 😄 Thanks for watching man.
Ultralight Outdoors you’re welcome! And I agree, it has been a hot summer :) No way we are getting soft....nope, not a chance, *keeps whispering to himself in denial* nope nope nope.
Man, cant wait to get back home to put some miles behind me. Was planning on doing the Lone Star Trail, but now I'll have to see what it's like when I return... Anyways, it's always nice to see good old Texas outdoors. Keep'em coming!
Been a while since I've been on the LSHT. I bet its pretty miserable this time of year. I hope to finish the whole thing one day. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it.
The LSHT is still dry. It only got a trace of rain from Laura but the San Jacinto might be high. I went a few weeks ago and it was the driest I've ever seen.I live 30 minutes away and we didn't even get any wind. Those damn ticks though.
Only saw a few people right at the Spicewood Springs. Didn't see anyone else on any trail. Same as the last time I was at Colorado Bend. Didn't see anyone all day on trail. Its not busy on weekdays. Pretty nice. Thanks for watching!
Ultralight Outdoors I went earlier this year and seen people on Gorman Falls trail. This park pretty popular in the summer, planning on another visit soon. Next time I’m definitely visiting on a weekend.
Hey Cameron thanks for filming that CBSP video. I actually will be going early October to camp and hike the same area. I’m glad to see the spicewood canyon pools are still looking refreshing and pleasant. Thanks again - Chris M
Hey Chris thanks a lot for watching. I was surprised at how full the Spicewood area was this late in summer. Several great pools for cooling off. Hopefully it won't still be 100 degrees by the time you go. Hope you have a good trip out there.
I missed Dogleg Canyon when I was out there. That was pretty cool! One of my daughters and two of her friends just did an overnighter out there. She said they barely slept with the heat. Nice look at the park 👍
Very nice. You've given me some great ideas for my upcoming trip. I want to do Gorman Falls because that was one of my first hikes four years ago. It is so steep out of there my nephews had to push on my behind to get me out. I'm not going to be doing 11.7 miles, so tough decisions.
Gorman Falls is super steep. Glad they have some of the chains to hold on to. I really liked the Spicewood Loop on this trip. On a previous trip the Tinaja trail was cool. And the Tie Slide Trail had a cool overlook of the river, although the trail itself was nothing super special.
@@UnclePaul I have done SOME of every trail I believe. There is about a 1 mile stretch of the river trail I havent done and a part of the loop near near the Windmill sites I havent done.
What do you use to hold your water? Also are your satisfied using the Sawyer Mini for purifying your water supply? New subscriber, will be moving back to Texas in a few months and using your videos to pick my camping and hiking lineup.
Well thanks for watching. For what I do (dayhikes and backpacking trips up to 5 days) the Sawyer mini works great. If I was to thruhike I would consider using something with a higher flow rate. But for as little as I need it for, the mini is great. My shoulder strap pocket is from Zpacks. There is a review of it on my channel. I just use a 16 oz water bottle to drink from. I fill that from platypus 1 liter bottles i keep in my pack. The system works well for me. Although I do sometimes use a hose with the platypus bottles. I just dont like not being able to see how much water I have in each bottle before it goes empty.
I wish Colorado Bend was a little closer to me. But its really not a bad drive. I mostly explore the parks south or west of DFW. I hate driving through the metroplex while I'm on my way to "getting away from it all". I really need Dinosaur Valley to start taking backpacking reservations. Thanks for watching.
@@CameronHall88 So that's why I couldn't get a reservation for the backcountry sites even though they were all empty when I hiked by them on my trip a couple months ago! I got a site that was close to the river, but it only had one tree and I like to hammock camp. LOL!
@@CameronHall88 I live where Downtown Dallas and Oak Cliff meet and lucked out with an apartment that is highway-close to be able to skirt around Dallas. Getting up to the Ouachita National Forest, or heading south or west of Dallas is relatively easy, especially compared to when I lived in Corpus Christi and the nearest decent backpacking park was almost four hours away.
Hi Cameron, it looks like a nice place. I never made it there even though I was only probably an hour and a half away. The pools look really nice though, as well as the whole area. Hopefully you can make it out to there or somewhere close again soon.
Colorado Bend is one of my favorite parks that is (somewhat) close to me. It really wasn't bad at all driving out there for a dayhike. Which I know doesn't mean much to you since you used to drive 7 or 8 hours for a dayhike out in west Texas!
CBSP looks really nice. I'll have to get there when it cools off. Cameron, just curious, did you make it to Utah this summer? I've been waiting on a video from your trip.
Hey Greg, unfortunately we did not end up going to Utah this summer. Decided it was best for the situation so far this year. We cancelled our reservations. I hate that I had previously mentioned it in a video and then we cancelled the trip. I'll learn from that. We were really looking forward to Capitol Reef as we had been to all the parks in Utah but didn't get but half a day at Capitol Reef previously. I do have reservations for other places over the next few months but don't want to name any specifics until i know for sure the trip is happening. Thanks a lot for watching.

Thanks!! I’m heading there beginning of August. Good to see a taste of what’s there.
Great time for swimming after a morning hike! Enjoy!
@@CameronHall88 I see there are primitive camp sites to be reserved. Do you know about these? What are they like? Etc

I love coming here in late spring/early summer. Not crazy hot yet but hot enough to swim. Spicewood is definitely the best area in the park.
Nice video. Thanks.
Thanks a lot for watching!
Nice hike! The colors were popping in the video, and the music was a great touch. I bet those springs feel amazing on a hot summer day.
