  • Hello Folks,
You ever have one of those days where you struggle to do anything right? This video documents one of my days like that. Simple u-joint replacement but it's like my head was somewhere else. I did get it done but SHEESH, what a chore...
Always a big thanks to the folks on RUclips I glean info from:

Nice Job, I do have to remind myself sometimes that "this is fun"

When I replace u joints I put extra grease in the caps and press the first cap in so over half the cap is protruding on the inside of the yoke so when you put the other cap in the yoke the cross holds the needles in. Do the same on the drive shaft. Then put the zerk in. ALWAYS put the u joints in so the grease zerks are under compression under acceleration. If not done that way u joints will break, not can break, but WILL break.

Please explain, zerk under compression. I must be missing something. Does it mean the zerk is in front of the yoke when driven not in front of the shaft?
      Thanks Bruce

Figure full of grease in the cap to glue the needles.

Yeah, I kept saying that but never did it. Thanks

Hope you use the solid non grease able type, they are stronger.

I did not, I had to use what was available locally. Thanks

those came apart easy. I usually have to press them out on the vise. You make it sound like "30 years ago you changes them" was last week.. LOL Time flies doesn't it . I give you credit on leaving some of the "where's my head at" scenes. I have a ton of them as well but edit them out. And I thought the rear joint was different as well, there are larger caps for the diff.

Oh man, it didn’t take that long and when finished I didn’t think it went THAT bad. Not til I saw the video, it was hard to watch me struggle so, did I realize it was one long excruciating senior moment.
      Thanks for understanding Wally.

@@donsmanufactory As I said, I do the same all the time. I just edit it out LOL
