I’m 37, an oldish Lego fan and I like the mini dolls. The Lego Movie 2 got me my first ones, and I went and got a lot of the DC girls figures, I think they’re cool and they work alongside the Minifigures.
My sister always preferred the Belville dolls. They were so much more articulated. And not just as Lego toys - they were her favourite overall. Although we did both like the old Lego Technic guys too.
I grew up first with paradisa (minifigs) and then belleville, and it was super exciting getting hyper articulated dolls after minifigs, tbh. They also had amazing fairytale sets and witches. The scale was also fun, but incompatible with minifig scale lego. The problem eith Belleville figures was that they had so many points of articulation that their joints would slacken and sometimes they broke.
I really dislike this concept where 'girls' and 'boys' are being prescribed different kinds of figures that will make their collections incompatible. If some kid happens to like Star Wars and Disney Princesses for some reason combining the collections in a consistent way can't happen. And it was all based on such misguided research and assumptions. Friends sets sell well because they happen to be good sets, and it is true that there are some adults that will only buy a toy for a girl if the box's has some sort of pink or at least purple hue. But the segregation between the figures was so unnecessary. Granted, for me it hasn't really been a big problem. I normally just remove the hair pieces and store away the rest of the bodies. The hair pieces work for minifigs, so that's nice. If I was a Wednesday fan, though, that would be rather annoying and kind of depressing, oh well.
Lego literally researched this for years, and the results challenged Lego's assumptions on several points. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_Friends#Development You can debate whether minidolls are the right product, but it's hard to argue that Lego doesn't have evidence backing them up.
I love it. It’s about time that amazing characters make an appearance in mini doll form. There are thousands of minifigure configurations available, why not make the same for those who want to collect mini dolls. 😉😘
Gabby’s dollhouse were our first mini doll sets and I think they did a really good job with them. I was put off by Lego Friends when it was first released, but further examination of the current line and it’s really cool. It can be seen as an older kids Lego City line.
A lot of AFOLs seem to have an irrational hatred for Mini-dolls. I probably won't pick up the Wednesday or Wicked sets, but I like the Mini-dolls in general just as much as I like minifigs. I think it's a good thing if LEGO expands the kinds of sets in which we get mini-dolls. The Elves theme was great and that was one of the first themes to use dolls.
I know for me it's just that I grew up with and love minifigures and they're finally coming out with themes that I've always wanted, with Disney and wicked, but they're minidolls and minidolls only. If the theme was split in half with minidolls sets and minifigure sets, I wouldn't have a problem. For unlicensed themes like friends though, I have no problems with minidolls
I will absolutely pick up the dorm room set because I love Wednesday and Enid. While not my favorite, I'm okay with minidolls, I think they're perfect for some things. I just wish we could get BOTH. Most stuff is cross compatible anyway, I dont understand why we couldn't get the big set with minidolls and then a small side set with minifigure. Here's another wild thought.... you're already including alternate versions.......you could always.....have minidolls and minifigures in the same set.....
I don’t mind mini dolls, but I wish they could move their legs. How are you supposed to recreate the iconic dance scene from Wednesday when she can’t even move her legs?
I would buy Lego Friends if there was an option to get minifigs instead of minidolls. I think they have some of the coolest buildings and I like that they always add animals. I have threatened to buy them, donate the dolls and repopulate the buildings with minifigures. But I have yet to take the plunge.
I actually do this, buy the sets and put minifigs in them instead. I would have no problem with minidolls if they were as posable as minifigs, but somehow they are bigger yet have less mobility.
I don't know if this is controversial as a dude (although looking at the comments, I don’t think that's the case) I actually really like mini-dolls. Minifigs are obviously iconic, and I love them, but as someone who generally collects more non-lego than Lego these days, i prefer their proportions
I just so happened to watch Wednesday for the first time (I'm only about 4 episodes in rn) with my mom so now looking at these sets again, I am kinda interested tbh, the dorm room set is awesome I love the details, absolutely perfect subject for a Wednesday set and the minidolls look great, coming from someone who has never really taken a close look at minidoll sets before. I like that they have a little drawer built in the bottom for extra stuff for them too
I’m a girl, and it gets so tiring when 5 seconds into a video a guy sighs and puts down mini dolls. I just want to say…it’s not for you so please move on, in fact it’s made me want to start a channel so people like me don’t need to get reviews from the guys that’s hate anything cute. I love the Wednesday sets, I collect minifigs but I was so excited that I would get a mini doll Wednesday, and the large version is going to go great next to the large brick built minifigs of Harry and Hermione. For Wednesday, the slim figure makes so much sense for her, the minifigs for girls are so boxy and no amount of shading on the side makes up for it. I’m sure they will make her a minifigs eventually so I just hope that the mini doll hate just goes away and we all celebrate that there’s people out there with different likes for their city and collections. Same for Wicked, can’t wait for those mini dolls too… that hate I didn’t understand, wicked is going to be huge and the Ariana fans will likely not care if it wasn’t a minifigs. I think it’s perfect for her asthetic too.
I absolutely encourage you to start your own channel! If you're not seeing the representation you want from other reviewers, then the wonderful thing about RUclips is that you can do it yourself ☺️ If you do, be sure to tag us so we can see too!

@@brick_fanatics Thank you for your words of encouragement! I think your reviews are always fair, it’s refreshing when my favorite “girl thing” about Lego is given a fair review. Cheers!
Minidolls are wonderful and I wish so many Lego fans didnt haven’t such a raging hate-boner for their mere existence. The Elves theme not only gave us some of the best designed sets of the past decade, but also some of the most detailed figures ever! I can understand why some people might not love minidolls, but the constant bemoaning of them whenever a new set is announced has gotten old. Don’t stop yourself from buying a set you want just because you dislike THREE of the pieces included. Characters like Wednesday, Glinda and Elphaba would be pretty easy to convert to minifigure form with their new specially molded hairpieces. Enid may be a bit tricker, but her minidoll here is exactly why going for dolls over figures was the right call! Her leg piece, like all minidolls, has 360° printing! Her skirt, her skin tone, her socks, her shoes and detailing for the skirt and shoes!!! Imagine her as a minifigure. She wouldn’t have nearly that much detailed packed on. The new buildable doll sets are cute, but a tad expensive in both Wicked and Wednesday’s cases. I can see myself getting them on discount for the parts. I really hope Friends does their own take on them.
Ok, so I don’t have anything against what minidolls look like (and I loved Elves). However, the fact that their legs don’t move and that they can’t sit and remain attached unless there is a special piece between their feet to hold them there is the downside…
My only problem with minidolls is exclusively with licensed sets. I'm a minifgure fan but Disney is probably my favorite franchise out there and it sucks that it's mostly only minidolls except for a handful of very expensive sets and cmfs that you can't get anymore. I wish all themes had minifigure sets aswell as minidoll sets so that fans of both styles can have something from licensed themes. Wicked is also something I really would have loved if it was minifigures but it's only minidolls. It especially sucks for me cause, other than Wednesday, these are themes that I've been waiting for, for years and want more than themes like star wars and Harry Potter, and they're finally here but they're minidolls and I grew up with and like minifigures. If half of the wave was minidolls and the other half was minimal figures, I'd have no problem. I just don't like how it divides the Lego fanbase
I think the problem with that is that nowadys the minifigs are usually like half the appeal of a set for most people if not more, especially with licensed or franchise sets. Like if barad dur or rivendell didnt have minifigures included how many people wouldnt have bought it? So to me as an adult fan of lego who never had anything to do with friends or elves getting mini dolls in a set is probably pretty much equal to no minifigs in a set. Thats why the "Don’t stop yourself from buying a set you want just because you dislike THREE of the pieces included" doesnt really work for me, because those three pieces are not just three pieces but atleast half the appeal of the set. If you like mini dolls all power to you, but i think not getting the set because it has dolls instead of figs is a more than valid standpoint
the wednesday dorm set is the first set with minidolls that i’ve bought since i was into the friends line as a kid, so i guess their plan worked. i do kind of hope they reboot the elves line if minidoll based lines do see some more popularity. the only issue i have with minidolls is that they seem to be more associated with being for kids than minifigs, with less articulation and therefore less posability and versatility. there’s also a common issue of the face prints being slightly off since the face surface is molded.
I loved the elves series but it was too expensive for my family to get at the time and it burns to this day. These new sets really feel like those did and I’m hoping for more dark fantasy going forward
I planned on buying the Wicked sets, but they are just too juvenile. I like the Wednesday sets, I'd buy the dormroom just for the window piece. But I might buy the buildable Wednesday since it looks so cool with the base.
90% of lego sets with minidolls are brilliant, but minidolls themselves are awful. They feel too big for the lego proportions of building and vehicles, even on sets designed for them. Will i buy sets with minidolls? Yes. Will i toss them in a box with all the stuff I want to sell? Yes again
Slightly off topic, but Christina Ricci is partly responsible for the modern character of Wednesday. She, along with the writer and director, created the nihilistic, cynical outsider we now recognise. The then-unnamed character in Charles Addams' original drawings was "Full of woe", wearily skipping while only occasionally displaying psychopathic tendencies. Most memorably, smiling broadly as helping her brother build up a roaring fire ready for Santa's visit down the chimney.
It's good these (Wednesday/Wicked) are Minidoll sets because then my wallet will be fuller... if they were minifigs sets, my wallet would be empty... That new small gargoyle piece would be useful for MOCs.
I’m not big on mini dolls, for no real reason other than random aesthetic preferences and wishing they were more articulated- but I will always always side with my mini doll allies against the true enemy: brickheadz (This is mostly to be silly if you love brickheadz I don’t begrudge you. You do you)
I personally think that they need more hybrid sets like the Lego movie 2 stuff, like with selective choices, I saw someone mention Nightmare Before Christmas should do this, 100% agree, another thing I think they could have done figs and dolls for could be blue people avatar
i like mini dolls well enough but my favorite thing is being able to customize minifigures. if i ever wanted to make a dnd mini for a goth sorcerer or something then i'd have loved to use the body and clothes from wednesday, having the customization options limited by being unable to mix and match all but the hair is really disappointing imo
I’m not that big on the dolls personally but if the set is cool then I’ll get it, dolls or minifigures. Now I’m more likely to get a meh set for a cool minifigure than a doll.
Those minidolls for Wednesday do look more appealing, but I'd also like minifigs of the Addams Family. Could they ever possibly include both minifigs and minidolls in the same set, so you can choose? Would the difference in proportions mess that up?
They're very nearly the same size, so proportion differences wouldn't cause any problems. What might cause problems is the lower articulation and fewer connection points on minidolls, that for example limit the possible kinds of chair.
It's hard to say for the conspiracy my friend lol. When the Snow White cottage was announced it was almost implied they were having minidolls and yet they got it right with the normal minifigures. My bet is that when they do remake it it will be with minidolls though.
As soon as the silhouette for Elphaba and Galinda were revealed as minidolls I was .. well that’s a NO from me. My preference is minifigures and I just don’t like the cutesy styling of the Friends sets. Minidolls have quite a few less points of articulation too. A shame they weren’t minifigures too as we already had the ones from The Wizard of Oz from The Lego Movie 2 CMF. I have a bit better understanding as to why the Lego group have done this the way they have, but for and a lot of others I’ve chatted to it’s an outright no ! The only reason I bought the Frozen Ice Castle is because we already had minifigures of Elsa and Anna at least that we could replace the minidolls with .. which I did right away .. as well as make all the light blue satin pieces darker blue and much prefer it this way. Great video as always 👍🏼
I just wish mini dolls were more customizable. They pack a lot of detail but being unable to swap heads or arms or individual legs keeps me from wanting to get too many of them because I like doing custom builds most of all. The fact they are accessory and hair and headgear compatible with mini figs is a good foundation but after 12 years I’d have hoped they would’ve been more ambitious with them conceptually.
Minidolls should’ve been added to normal sets a while ago, so many characters would look so much better as minidolls. The minidolls have a legacy in the Lego universe no matter if you like it or not, they also fit the Lego art style pretty well after being in the Lego universe for so long.
I found it unusual that LEGO made different decisions the four Disney Mini Castles. The original was for the 50th celebration so I understand why they included a Mickey Mouse with Cinderella Castle. However, Ariel’s Castle included an Ariel Mini Doll, an Aurora Mini figure was included with the Sleeping Beauty Castle, and neither a Jasmine Minifigure nor a Mini Doll was included in the Palace of Agrabah set. Such inconsistencies that I ended up purchasing minifigures of each corresponding princess to display with my completed sets.
I know there are some who love minidolls, but for those of us who aren't fans, it would be wonderful if Lego could make an add-on pack of minifigs that we can swap out the minidolls with.
That would be great, or just make half of the wave mini dolls and the other half minifigures, include the same characters but do different builds that way they can be swapped in and out
This set looks cool, but I would prefer the full house instead of just a mansard. As for the minidolls - nothing against them. At this point I care more about the build itself then the figures.
I didn't mind minidolls and wanted to buy Botanical garden, until I saw them in person. Something feels off when I look at them. I think Wednesday looks great, but not a fan of Enid as minidoll.
I absolutely despise the minidolls and find no way around it. I wish this set had minifigures, they can innovate in them too like they have before, for example also with Jack Skellington making him much taller.
I do think these new sets look good and unique but I don’t care for the show and musical/film themselves. I like mindolls, and how I was able to custom paint them to do mindolls they hadn’t yet made.
I was in the lego store today and it was rammed full of uni students of both genders. None of the women were anywhere near the friends section so lego looks like they are really missing an opportunity here. There are also a lot of young couples who seem to be into lego who i think want to build stuff together.
I don’t really have a problem with mini dolls I actually think they look cool I just don’t like that they can’t move they’re legs as well as a regular minifigure
Morticia would be ideal as a minidoll, while Gomez as a minifig. Of course if Netflix and Lego goes ahead with a set of Addams Family expanding upon the Wednesday show.
10:35, though I theoretically have nothing against minidolls, from my own very specific perspective, I'm really not a fan of expanding them. This is for 2 main reasons: 1. They have their own aesthetic that does not match with minifigures, and so don't truly add to the potential of my already vast minifigure collection. I have to keep my two collections separate, as intermixing feels like your just combining random toys from the toybox, rather than things that were designed to interact. 2. They are vastly inferior for animating, as minifigures have 7 points of articulation, and minidolls have 4.
I buy minidolls for their special hair. The elves for their pointy ears. I willbuy the wednesday set, it is a shame that lego did't make regular minifig for it
A real missed opportunity here in not making her a minifig instead, is that she can't double as her character Astrid Deetz in Beetlejuice (and be paired next to him in spooky MOCs)

I’m 37, an oldish Lego fan and I like the mini dolls. The Lego Movie 2 got me my first ones, and I went and got a lot of the DC girls figures, I think they’re cool and they work alongside the Minifigures.
I agree, the minidolls fit the Lego artstyle pretty well too. They add much needed diversity when you mix them with minifigs and brick built figures.
That’s what I’ve been thinking too!
Lego literally researched this for years, and the results challenged Lego's assumptions on several points. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_Friends#Development
You can debate whether minidolls are the right product, but it's hard to argue that Lego doesn't have evidence backing them up.
I think they chose mini-dolls because they reflect the look of these characters (proportions ,...) better than a classic figure
I have always through Jack and Sally would look good as minidolls.
That would really make sense for them. They would look odd as Minifigures, and not in the way they are supposed to look odd.
@@MOCTurtle4911 They're already out as minifigures ! Check out Lego Ideas 21351 that just released !
The style of the art of the faces for the original mini figures is just too iconic for me
I think the mini dolls are cool, but I prefer minifigures because I have parts which I can use to customize them to my liking.
I love it. It’s about time that amazing characters make an appearance in mini doll form. There are thousands of minifigure configurations available, why not make the same for those who want to collect mini dolls. 😉😘
I kinda like the Way the Minidolls look...
I mean I get it, Minifigs are ICONIC!
But I would love to see Anime based Themes with Minidoll Figures : /
Brick Fanatics is always the best in discussing LEGO topics.
Outside of Jang, they seem to be most informed and reasonable.
Gabby’s dollhouse were our first mini doll sets and I think they did a really good job with them. I was put off by Lego Friends when it was first released, but further examination of the current line and it’s really cool. It can be seen as an older kids Lego City line.
I happy to see more minidoll theme. I hope for more in the future
Definitely! Like a mini doll CMF!!
Thank you for making great Lego videos that see both sides fairly! Love watching your content and reviews!! 👍🏻
Imagine the finally made Lego Buffy The Vampire Slayer could work well with the mini dollls.
I like that they have a little drawer built in the bottom for extra stuff for them too
Considering picking up my first mini doll with the Wednesday set cause I love Addams family
I'm a male AFOL and i love mini dolls! But yes its sad when they are hated on! We need a mini doll CMF! Lego just needs to test the waters with it, and hopefully more fans would see why mini dolls are cool
Same, it's annoying. I just wanna like Lego, buy the lego I like is seem as lesser
While I don't like minidolls myself, I definitely can see the appeal, and I wish more people were accepting of them!
Both WM's and Kopf's versions of Wednesday minifigs looks tons better than Lego's abomination.
I am 22 years now and I am so happy thay are making now mini dolls for a older audience 🥹
Love it! I'd also like a fairy themed 😅
the wednesday dorm set is the first set with minidolls that i’ve bought since i was into the friends line as a kid, so i guess their plan worked. i do kind of hope they reboot the elves line if minidoll based lines do see some more popularity.
the only issue i have with minidolls is that they seem to be more associated with being for kids than minifigs, with less articulation and therefore less posability and versatility. there’s also a common issue of the face prints being slightly off since the face surface is molded.
I am gonna say something icky, but I’d love a Disney Princesses CMF set with the mini dolls instead of minifigs…
I would just love a CMF (or a CMD) just filled with minidolls. I don't care what the concept for it is, I'd just buy them all.
You know, the brick-build "not-so-"mini dolls look quite a bit nicer than the brick-build "not-so-"minifigures.
Yes again
I'll even keep the heads off them, because that standard bar hole is good for integrating into mecha-themed builds.
I'd get the main set but get custom minifig versions of the minidolls to replace them.
I don't think they accidentally shared it, but rather purposely
Return to Oz was done by Disney actually so you CAN write that one off!
I love them tbh, they are always very detailed unlike some mini figures, if they are doing franchises now that’s even better!
It's good these (Wednesday/Wicked) are Minidoll sets because then my wallet will be fuller... if they were minifigs sets, my wallet would be empty... That new small gargoyle piece would be useful for MOCs.
I’m not big on mini dolls, for no real reason other than random aesthetic preferences and wishing they were more articulated- but I will always always side with my mini doll allies against the true enemy: brickheadz
(This is mostly to be silly if you love brickheadz I don’t begrudge you. You do you)
I personally think that they need more hybrid sets like the Lego movie 2 stuff, like with selective choices, I saw someone mention Nightmare Before Christmas should do this, 100% agree, another thing I think they could have done figs and dolls for could be blue people avatar
Not that interested in the Wednesday or Wicked IPs, but I do have a couple of Friends sets, and this middle-aged AFOL doesn't mind mini-dolls.
meh, I have no interest in these--hang on! Are those gargoyle molds!!?? I need those!!!!!
I'm missing the lego technic figures.
That's all I had to say.
i like mini dolls well enough but my favorite thing is being able to customize minifigures. if i ever wanted to make a dnd mini for a goth sorcerer or something then i'd have loved to use the body and clothes from wednesday, having the customization options limited by being unable to mix and match all but the hair is really disappointing imo
Personally, I think it’ll just alienate some people from buying them. Like people are expecting that Minifigure form, why take that away?
If they want an older audience they should do Twilight or Hunger Games.
Mini dolls are so cute though
Wait, what happened to the usual background? Only the Great Wave remains and it's in the wrong place. Could this be a new studio?
It's hard to say for the conspiracy my friend lol. When the Snow White cottage was announced it was almost implied they were having minidolls and yet they got it right with the normal minifigures. My bet is that when they do remake it it will be with minidolls though.
I simply dont care for minifigs, i buy the sets if they're good and leave the figs in the kids section of the library with a postit that says "free"
You can swap heads and legs actually
@@lukascermak4011 The legs are on a single assembly, I meant individual legs, but yes I forgot the heads can be swapped.
I often change the arms in mini dolls. You have to be careful but its certainly possible!
Ok, now i’m gonna wait until they release The Kentucky Fried Movie Lego set🎥
Mini dolls thrive in a unnatural world imo, a weird and sprawling universe (well, not weird, very familiar of course).
No way I was 6 when Lego Friends started😭 I feel old
Minidolls should’ve been added to normal sets a while ago, so many characters would look so much better as minidolls.
The mini dolls to me look to close to Playmobile. They are not my thing, just a hard cord mini figures fun that grew up with them since 78.
I mean, Lego makes a Sarlacc pit set. Doesn't get much darker than being parasitized for eons by a creepy monster.
I know there are some who love minidolls, but for those of us who aren't fans, it would be wonderful if Lego could make an add-on pack of minifigs that we can swap out the minidolls with.
That would be great, or just make half of the wave mini dolls and the other half minifigures, include the same characters but do different builds that way they can be swapped in and out
Doesn’t fix the fact that the minidoll proportioned sets are too large for minifigs
This set looks cool, but I would prefer the full house instead of just a mansard. As for the minidolls - nothing against them. At this point I care more about the build itself then the figures.
My only problem with minidolls is the lack of leg articulation. That's not big enough for me to actually have a problem with them personally.
The fact that the opening joke had to be instantly disclaimed and explained emphasises the sad state of the internet...
Most of my nieces prefer the mini-dolls over the minifigs.
Trying to fit a character into a minifig that doesn’t fit the minifigs shape looks worse than a mini doll will ever look
Who buys brickheadzzz?!!
The brick built mini-doll looks better than the mini-doll.
I do think these new sets look good and unique but I don’t care for the show and musical/film themselves. I like mindolls, and how I was able to custom paint them to do mindolls they hadn’t yet made.
Probably because thing would not look good as a random mini figure hand
Do you think those 2012 early rolls sets are worth holding on to? My dd is 18
I was in the lego store today and it was rammed full of uni students of both genders. None of the women were anywhere near the friends section so lego looks like they are really missing an opportunity here.
There are also a lot of young couples who seem to be into lego who i think want to build stuff together.
I always buy friends sets. I'm 27 and a woman. I like the minidolls , I don't care for minifigs at all
I don’t really have a problem with mini dolls I actually think they look cool I just don’t like that they can’t move they’re legs as well as a regular minifigure
tbh i never liked the minidolls. i feel like they ruin everything.
they can‘t even sit 😭
Morticia would be ideal as a minidoll, while Gomez as a minifig. Of course if Netflix and Lego goes ahead with a set of Addams Family expanding upon the Wednesday show.
10:35, though I theoretically have nothing against minidolls, from my own very specific perspective, I'm really not a fan of expanding them. This is for 2 main reasons:
Young children love Wednesday though, especially girls.
I buy minidolls for their special hair. The elves for their pointy ears. I willbuy the wednesday set, it is a shame that lego did't make regular minifig for it
If they do Star Wars with minidolls I am buying.
That would be awesome! I really want all the DC characters as mini dolls! I made my own Batman mini doll and he looks cool!
I just think that LEGO is actually evil…
I think for a $130 set it should have minifigures...
I rhrough all my minidolls in a bin so these set are a pass for me
I just don't like at all how mini dolls look and avoid buying them because of that 😅
Brilliant!! Gj!
I didn't know that this video was going to be pushing an agenda! No excuse!
A real missed opportunity here in not making her a minifig instead, is that she can't double as her character Astrid Deetz in Beetlejuice (and be paired next to him in spooky MOCs)
if you want a lego minifig of wednesday that is (relatively) affordable, firestar toys has one that looks phenomenal in my opinion
Honestly, what’s wrong with minifigs…
Nothing really
Nothing is wrong w them but some characters do not look good as minifigs
@@greenxclips1733 That would only be a fault of poor graphic design.
@@fractalelf7760 not really, some characters just don’t fit the proportions of a minifig no matter what types of prints used
Minidolls x exoforce, that is all
Mini dolls can’t move their hands or legs, it’s just bad design
