Where do you think the winning bid will land? Over/Under at $1,000,000? Do you think the Nautilus will forever be a classic? Will it be regarded in a similar sense as beloved works of art, architecture, and literary works are? Is this madness? Please share your thoughts in the comments section. Auction link is here:

Always love hearing your thoughts Bruce! I won’t deny that this is a beautiful watch, but to me it represents everything that’s crazy about the watch market today. Hype/desire for clout/blind snobbery driving prices rather than a true appreciation for the watches. To be honest I don’t think most people who buy into the 5711 care about the history or the Genta design, as much as they care about having a hype piece. Objectively at the end of the day, the 5711 is a three hander watch with a fairly basic movement and pins in the bracelet. Nothing necessarily bad about those things, but it certainly doesn’t justify 6 figure (and now potentially 7 figure) valuations.
That is a fair point Jeffery. "I own the hottest sports watch in the world.... But the even more rare limited Tiffany version." I wonder if PP laid out rules to Tiffany for deciding on allocation. If not one could potentially never have been a PP customer, but have been a good Tiffany customer, and get one. You have to be a really good Patek client to get the normal 5711
I'm only mad because Patek said they wanted to discontinue the 5711 because they were sick of the hype & wanted to be known for their dress watches and complications... And then they keep RELEASING HYPE NAUTILUS AFTER HYPE NAUTILUS, lol! Hey, I've got not problem with a hype watch. Love a hype watch. I just really hate this "0mggGg w3 h8 tH3 Hyp3....!!!" then releasing hype watches lol. IDK WHY I'M SO BUTT HURT ABOUT THIS lol
guuuurrlll You keep waistin my time!!! even here in the comments section!!! I do hype that comment though.
Haha so true. Hey it's awesome to see Watch Gringa comment on one of my vids. Your killing it, enjoy your content very much
Patek said the were cancelling the 5711 partly because of the hype and they didn’t want to be defined by a single model. If I am wrong about that, please correct me. Since that time, they have released two versions of the watch that are trading with an extreme premium over the retail price. They didn’t know the watch would be trading with a premium? There is little chance that is true. Let’s face it. Patek is a luxury brand. The operate as a luxury brand. They know exactly what they are doing. There is tremendous hype for the 5711. What do they do? They send a message that most will never have it. We are a luxury brand and you aren’t invited. A total boss move, in my opinion. Then they make the point even more clear by releasing two versions that most of us will never see in person. Not ever. The are the ultimate luxury brand. Who can deny that?
Well said Barry
@@BruceWilliams Thanks!
rambling around the auction blocks is 4M.
My favorite watch with this kinda colour is the Doxa Sub 200. Was that released before the Rolex OP version?
I wouldn’t be surprised if this sells for over $1,000,000 or more at auction
I've never tried it but love the design. Moving the date at 6 would make it perfect !
This is my favorite version of the 5711. It is not available to mortals. A good business move by Patek.
Hey Bruce fantastic video i would not be surprised if it made 2 MILLION dollars
When will this model be released ?
I have seen 2 listings at $1.5M. Guess if you have one you can ask whatever price you want. I wondered if these people actually had the watch in hand. Photos were stock photos.
This turquoise Patek gives the ROLEX OP a huge credit , will the turquoise OP increases its value thanks to Patek ?;
So this is basically the Nautilus Farewell Edition #2, the first being the olive green. I wonder what the #3 and so forth would be.
And I think if those printed texts in back sapphire glass were engraved the steel case back, that would be much more elegant.
Nice vid. Agree with all your points. Also, thought Patek wanted to get away from 5711 because they didn't want to be known as The Nautilus Company? Then they do this. I respect Patek and the Stearns, but this almost looks like they're addicted to hype.
This piece is not nicknamed, it is legit with Tiffany brand stamped on it. Other brands can use this colour and nickname by watch lover. That is why it will be very expensive. Patek nails it this time, even though it does not need Tiffany brand to be co-brand with, as it has greater status in brand name.
I agree with your take, I think this was both a celebration of the relationship between Tiffany & Co. and Patek, as well as a shot across the bow of Rolex. Kind of like, "Nice Tiffany homage Rolex, this is how it's actually done".
I'm glad I'm not alone in that impression!
But I still feel Rolex OP Tiffany blue better than that 5711 Tiffany IMO
@@masterfreddywong4645 I disagree, but I'll never buy either, so I'm not committed to my opinion lol.
@@Furniture121 Fair enough. And everyone does titled their own opinions
Baskin-Robbins was the first with the Daiquiri Ice back in 1962! Anyway, agree, this will definitely catch on, as people will start looking for it at all levels (desperately looking). Nice video, honest opinion, as always. Thanks!
Ok. These will go for 100x .. $5 mil in an auction "easily" given the current PPN hype.
You all think Rolex OP has a Tiffany Blue dial? This IS an actually Tiffany Blue dial.. says so on the dial! Bam! And double signed for your pleasure.
It's funny, but I swear these bright colors now, especially the pastel or powder blue color was started by a microbrand called Halios years ago. Not so ironic those particular Halios models were hard to get and demanded a relatively high premium of the 2nd hand market, also.
But, the significance of this PP Tiffany Nautilus is leagues above the Halios. Still, I personally feel Halios started the light blue dial trend and you can't deny many companies followed this trend right afterwards.
Very overated watch IMHO! Yes I know it's Patek but so many better designs out there.
The nautilus is pretty meh imo. It's a old mans watch that belongs in the 80s or something like that. The aquanaut is a much nicer watch for the below 50 year old male.
@@antonhallergren588 exactly bro, if this watch was not rare no one would care!
The caseback is tacky…
whether this watch is tacky or not depends on who wears it..
This is an invite only piece apparently. Love it or hate it, you probably can’t even get it even if you have the money.
Great video Bruce, definitely agree 👍
I think we'll definitely start seeing turquoise as the new trend.
I'd just like to add that Rolex is to thank. First it was green, now it's Turquoise.
I'm looking forward to the Turquoise Royal Oak. And maybe next year a Coral Red 5711 😉
Rolex is rarely the first at something. But when they do it, they set trends
1. This is going to be nuts - Haha, I just see the market going completely insane. I'm not a fan of the Nautilus, it's a great watch, but just not a great watch for me! :-)
2. Greatest watch designer of history. I'll see your Gerald Genta and raise you one Abraham Louis Breguet. Maybe GG can be greatest watch designer of our time, but in history. I just have to disagree with you there. :-)
I owned a Nautilus 3700 for 15 years. Back in the days when the 18kt version cost $12,000. I loved that watch and never warmed up to the Royal Oak.
Sorry I didn't keep it, especially now that I see them at over $200k.
So sad that the prices have gone nuts. I would love to have a st/stl one now.
Ouch lol
You forgot to include the color on your camera
I thought it would help the turquoise pop even more lol
I kinda like it. Ultimate vacation watch ;p
Really enjoyed this vid, Bruce. I'm still not a Royal Oak or Nautilus fan, but I think I understand both a little better now.
They should have engraved the writing from the back sapphire on the ring around the caseback instead. If they really had to put it on.
How many Directors, Presidents and CEO’s do Tiffany have? About 169 maybe.
The Nautilus is one the icons in the watch world for sure. But would I pay two or three times over Retail? And this Tiffany version is a unicorn to make all watch enthusiasts silly.
The irony of 1 of 3 places being San Francisco. Whoever buys it is getting robbed when they walk out the store. Same with New Yor frankly.
Did Patek pave the way for fashion watches?! Let's see what the future will hold…
The case is for old men and the dial for teens… The same with DW on the dial instead of PP and nobody want it…
If this was a hype watch it wouldn’t be a super limited. 170 pieces they were only producing for collectors. Mabey to boost Tiffany & Co but not themselves. I almost wish it would have been a ghost release
This watch is a Very Important watch. People are not understanding the importance of Patek Phillips and Tiffany as brand for watches and luxury. This watch was not made for us, mere regular but the hyper/Uber wealthy people who are true collectors of Patek. People who have collected Patek for decades who has the most important models. Will a few celebrities get ahold of one. Mabey. But the people who are getting to own this watch probably have very deep relationships with Patek.
Hola Bruce, I believe that in a few years they will re-release the Nautilus again. IMO This suspension will be just for a few years.
It’ll be over 1.5M which is insane but hey, rich people get bored too
Following your own analogy, the recent Nautilus with Tiffany dial needs to be compared to a modern version of the Mona Lisa amended after Da Vincis death. Like one with moustach or something. Genta had no say in this release he mightve rolled over in his grave if he saw the colour of this dial. You equate the live corporation P.P to the late Genta and refer to P.P as an artist?
Bonkers
I love this watch but I will never own it
What a shame really
Well life goes on
admiring this 5711 is like admiring a limited edition Ferrari that we will never own. I like it. Will surpass $1 million for sure
That is a great comparison. Spot on
Tiffany: Hey Rolex, hold my scotch…
I never liked the Nautilus, im not a Patek sport watch fan but if i had to choose , i like the Aquanaut better.
Yup the nautilus is a old mans watch. It just looks old, the aquanaut is much more versatile and a much younger design. It's the nautilus 2.0 imo
It's all a matter of context, I think. If PP came up with that release 5 years ago it might not make the slightest bit of sense, but as it's obviously an allusion to the success to the OP tiffany blue, and that can be a very good thing for Rolex. As I understand it, Rolex has a policy since the early 2000s of not putting anything on the dial that references another brand or retailer. I believe this colour will not be used in the OP line in 2022, maybe it can come back in the near future to avoid speculation as they usually do. Predictability is good and speculation is dangerous. Whenever there is too much over speculation there is a built-in risk of a major drop, as in any market, hence the relaunch of discontinued models from time to time. Even PP did not make it a production model, only in a very limited unobtainable run. Have you tried contacting Tiffany to see if they would borrow one for your review? LOL. Nice video! What a dial!
'oh youre the silly guy on RUclips with the troll hair, yeah no thanks.' lol
@@BruceWilliams LOL that's so unfair. If that's the case they're the ones who are losing, lots of unknown billionaires in the subscribers list, not me of course, but I know some LOL Cheers mate!
@@juniorgallo8786 lol cheers man!
The watch itself doesn’t bother me. Or the hype really bc it’s outta my price range but the fact they’ve discontinued the watch 3 times in 1 year and then come out with another just seems cheap and tacky.
Given the fact PP just copied Rolex on the green dial I think this was a little too soon. Feels a bit forced and predictable. It looks objectively good but idk didn't hit me the way I thought it would when I saw it.
Never been a fan, always preferred the Royal Oak, not that I could come close 2 being able afford one now
I wouldnt pay retail for a Nautilus, theres nothing at the watch that justifies the price tag. Now, looking at prices online and thinking how much this one will cost, its obvious that money dont buy taste.
The watch will probably bring about $800,000
Hate that screening! What a disappointment. If there were going to do it, they should have done a ghosted screening like GS does on some of their watches. That would have been cool
They are so good in making huge hype and so making huge money by that...
A person who can pay a million for the watch will unlikely be unable to buy it at retail.
This is what is wrong with the watch world.
God must love THE CRAZY because there are too many in the world.
What is Tiffany&Co?
A old school New York luxuary boutique
@@antonhallergren588 Thanks Anton.
Each brand using the other to validate, boost, etc. Smart marketing. The turquoise dial is definitely the thing. Halios couldn't keep em in stock. Oris blew the opportunity to do it on steel if you ask me. Rolex? Ha... they started this and will be out before it's no longer a trend. Remember when they did it with green? : )
Gentas designs were very much stuck in the 70s . But the designs still look cool today. Iconic yes, but not in the way a sub or a speedie is. The patek / tiffany won't be lusted after like the real icons of the watch world , that most people want. The guy in the warehouse won't be wearing a patek, but he just might be wearing a sub, or speedie.
Imho, this officially marks the demise of PP as a classy watch brand of high horology. It is becoming a mass-market fashion watch brand trying to conceal its cheapness by charging exorbitant prices. How disappointing!
At the other end of the spectrum, loads of microbrands are already using tiffany. I realise watch design is subjective but in all honesty I have always thought that if Fred Flintstone were to wear a watch, this would be it... I'm really not trying to be funny!
This Nautilus proves that Rolex is the king of sports watches. I like the powder finish of the blue, but i just don't get this watch Could you imagine if they made a blue OP with tiffany and co on the dial. I don't however think that Rolex can compete with Patek ON THE HIGH END. I think it takes more than adding diamonds to a mass-produced watch to compete with handmade ones
I'm sure you are licking your chops at getting a Seiko Marine Master (Prospex) Diver in Tiffany Blue. Tell the truth Bruce!
I love your opinions Bruce; but I have to respectfully disagree. When Jay Leno buys a classic automobile from auction for stupid money, it makes sense, I get it. His is a true enthusiast preserving history. However, this Patek manufactured modern day hype I find distasteful at best. Patek should be above this Rolex non-sense. This is exactly the reason the non .2%ers are put off with such behavior. As a watch true-hearted and passionate watch enthusiast myself, I do find this distasteful. Jean-Claud Biver I’m sure would not approve. Sigh…..
If you want a beautiful Pink dial watch, may I suggest the new Grand Seiko Four Seasons cherry blossom dial. For a fraction of the price; you get a gorgeous pink dial watch, hand finished with exquisite beauty neither Patek nor Rolex could replicate.
PP is lowering their level, joining Rolex in this stupid overhyped marketing!
It's an easy impression to get
To be fair to both companies, luxury goods are all about hype to some degree. The whole point of wearing a luxury brand is to show to people that you can afford to spend money on unnecessary items.
This analogy makes no sense. Comparing a mass produced replicable product to one off Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece. What a hype bubble.
well, how's 5.5 million for ya?
People will really like whatever they are told too.
The patek 5711 meteorite dial is really the last 5711.
Still an ugly watch that looks like a bad prop from a B rated 70s sci-fi movie. Don’t care what color or brand they put on it.
Is Patek consciously putting Rolex in their place? Maybe, maybe not. But, in any event, that’s what they’ve done by showing the market what a genuinely exclusive steel sports piece with a Tiffany blue dial looks like.
I lost my respect for Patek Philippe, for now. It added to the Hype stigma that compromised the brand. If this is a big F**K YOU to the hype watch market and culture, and they really discontinue the Nautilus all together (no upgrade or new version). Then I will take Patek Philippe serious. IMO I think they should of done this a long time ago. The good thing is that only Tiffany VIP clients already own all 170 watches. They are all spoken for, not by watch collectors.
Just one word for today: LOL
Bruce is way off as usual. 5.35 million plus
Nice video, but this is an abomination. Zero interest in this (unobtainable) timepiece and color.
The people who are ranting about the watch. Are the ones actually butt hurt so it's OK
Sure is pretty but I believe that Rolex did it better.
Yes it will go over millions because the grey market you know the watch market control by the grey market then why open the AD just open the grey market store better so the people more choices at one location
I’ll be buying my watch from DH Gate for $50
Ridiculousness.
A color primarily for women on a men's watch. It will be worth stupid money.
All those high end Genta designed or inspired watches I find really ugly.🤢 Sorry, but for me they're the "Emperor's New clothes" - usually I can see why folks like a piece even though I don't, but with all these I really can't find any redeeming qualities apart from the brand names..for me GG lost it after the early 70s-more Jackson Pollock than Leonardo Da Vinci, an acquired taste . Good to see Rolex being put in their place tho 🤣
I like the colour on a classic Bonneville or Corvette, but not on a watch.
Cheers mate 👍
Patek has become pretty pathetic, just pandering to public demand. First they made a green dial with green was the hype. Then the green dial was supposed to be the last model, which it’s not. Then they copy Rolex’s entry level watch and try to “one up it” by stamping Tiffany on the dial and making it a limited edition. Patek should just be like Rolex and set the trend, not follow them. Maybe make a red dial like grand seiko, and make red the new green.
I think the Nautilus is ugly. So is the Royal Oak.
Boring move. I think more interesting topic is holy trinity trying to catch younger audìence with (relatively) cheaper references. Seeing some of that from Vacheron. Let’s see if this is a trend.
It's not for me......but how could anyone feel safe wearing that on there wrist out and about...may as well paint a big target on your back !!
First!
Second. What prizes do we win?
You guys win a chance to bid on the new 5711 Tiffany 😂
@@BruceWilliams 😂
I openly distain this watch and all nautilus's is general. Not only for the absurd opulence and snobbery of it, but because, its just not that nice looking of a watch, of course that is my subjective opinion. Its plain. Square case? No, no thanks. If I didn't know what a Patek was and wasn't a watch guy, and I out and saw someone with one on, I don't think I would even think twice about it. I couldn't say the same about a Rolex GMT, or whatever.
I would have preferred the Nautilus in canary yellow. Tiffany turquoise just screams Rolex OP copycat. Even though Patek has a partnership with Tiffany, the idea was already championed by Rolex. It feels like Patek are the Cuckoo bird here. Hatching their egg in Rolex's nest & trying to steal the credit. Patek have lowered their ethical & marketing standards. That's why I prefer Rolex. At least they don't pull these stunts. They also don't do limited editions and although near impossible to buy a steel sports Rolex at retail, at least you can still purchase them on the grey market albeit at a premium. Where as Patek is just not in my pipe dreams. Never liked Gerald Genta designed anyway. The 1970s design is as outdated as flares trousers and chest hair bulging out of a tight fitted floral shirt. Tacky!
Not iconic to me. Don't hate it, but...
Almost as good looking as the $500 G shock full metal square in steel, and nowhere near as functional…
Real men wear black. I’ll just leave it at that LOL.
Pff pass
I don't like it, never did.
I'm more of a aquanaut and royal oak/offshore fan so I agree. The nautilus just never did anything for me.
@@antonhallergren588 For me VC Overseas...
Greed!
Trump will get one.
Good take Bruce! Yep, I agree it will go over 1 million. Unfortunately this color doesn’t lend to ‘rich’ looking design imo. It looks like a fashion watch to me with that dark border around the indices. Totally subjective of course but OP did a better job with whole design cohesiveness . That date on back too is like a bad Grand Seiko.
