  • Want something unique that sounds incredible? The Gamechanger Audio Motor Synth MKII might be it. 8 brush-less drone motors are put to work as oscillators, generating slightly-warped traditional synthesizer waveshapes (sine, saw, square), and a unique electromagnetic inductive waveshape (M) with unusual overtones.
The character is strangely organic, tones are slightly unstable and harmonically rich, especially when combined with the twin state-variable analog filters. Teamed with a feature set and workflow that's also very unusual, the Motor Synth stands alone in the synth-world. Well worth giving this machine a go!

This is on my list of "if I ever win the lottery" or heck, a $50,000 scratch ticket, shopping list.
It just has such an unusual sound and feels so steampunk. I can't easily tell the difference between an east coast or west coast analog playing similar patches, but everything I hear from this has an otherworldly vibe that gives me the feels in a way I can't describe

totally! There's a lot of harmonic content in those oscillators, combined with their inherent instability and those wild filters, it's a sound like nothing else out there

I would love to own this synth, but as you said, the price range is too high for most. Unfortunately it's so rare for passion projects like this to get mass produced, and for understandable reasons.

All motors burn out eventually, right … ? Not sure about the sound, either. Looks cool, anyway!

tbf these are custom motors they acquired after the MK1 and are rated at lots 'n lots of revolutions, plus they're not actually doing the 'work' that a normal motor would do (they're spinning freely and are just low-power lasered to get the audio rate signal)

@@lafemmedevastation Sure, fair enough. Afaic, it’s still introducing numerous fail points unnecessarily, into a not-inexpensive synth that doesn’t sound particularly special to me … 🙃🙃🙃

Sorry, but this just seems like an overpriced gimmick.
