I gotta get my hands on this!!! 🤗 Over the last several years, ever since the Jupiter X was released (Roland Cloud and Zen Core), Roland has been answering the call!! Their products are outstanding!
here i am buying this a year after this video, and no one has really gone this in depth to play with some of the features. Much appreciated you went further in depth. And yes, i am still quite noob
Thank you so much for your awesome Demo! This will so helpful to reference. Mine should be here today! Lol. Have a great weekend 😀. Mark Bensette Aux Bois 🇨🇦.
I don’t know why I don’t like this synth… It has EVERYTHING I like (except it’s digital but Roland have the best sound engine) I don’t know, at first I was crazy pumped then I watched videos and……..nothing happened in me.
@@petewigley9985 Exatly MY thoughts...and people getting angry at me, writing this. I'm waiting for the Behringer Mini VS which blew my socks off (100 USD!), even via RUclips it sounded massive and non-sterile, that's the difference.
Your presentation is the best so far. The way the sections are divided, the motional pad and the velocity button (not to mention the sound itself) had me willing to buy it rn. I was looking to buy a Minilogue XD but now the Gaia 2 have me divided
Thanks very much Sam! Big fan of the minilogue xd as well, tough choice! GAIA2 is definitely more flexible + far more polyphony, but minilogue gives you the genuine analog flavour + expandable multi-engine. Go down to a shop and try them both if you can, GAIA2 stock isn't far off.
@@StoreDJ_online fact is if we could afford, we'd buy them 2 and even more, right? Lol Unfortunately these synths are pretty expensive here in Brazil so it's a tough choice. Not to mention the main keyboard(s)
I like the sounds , wondering if this synth would be a good addition to my collection since I have Korg wavestate and modwave, argon 8, hydrasynth desktop, waldorf blofeld and waldorf iridium desktop in the digital collection of my synths. advice needed here.
That's quite a collection! You'd probably have the sounds covered already, but if you wanted to explore the deep modulation and interesting FX then GAIA2 could be a fun addition
interesting is this 2 VA OSC's is also Sample based like it was on first or it's another 15th instrument on Zencore engine? review looks really good at all, thanks!
It actually has its own engine. Completely original. The model expansions are ZEN-Core based, but not the synth itself. It has a special chip which allows it to switch between sound engines, though the filter is based on the Fantom. They actually explain this on Anderton’s channel.
is this have some real difference? yeah ACB is better but in fact it still very digital synth, or better say VST in hardware case that sounds not better than Serum but cost in 10 times more.
Thank God it's NOT just another annoying ANALOGUE Synth...or WORSE...a damn Copy/Clone of one..only issue is the Spastic WHEELS and not a proper pitch bend lever
If I didn't see the synth (in a blind test) I would think it's a good Cubase VST synth, lol. The interface is impressive though, I wish my Korg Radias would look like this, a touch-pad is always a good addition to a synth. (like on the Korg Z1, decades ago) Just throw in a true analogue filter and it'll will sound better... :-)
Yeah, you seem to would be more hybrid instruments, which is what I would be really interested. I wish somebody would create a great affordable, digital analog hybrid.
@@StoreDJ_online yeah that’s been on the list. I had to stop. I bought a bunch of stuff and then I had to recollect in my head what I should get. The one thing I wish since makers would do this what model did with their bigger cobalt argon synths. Is have a little space to the right where you can sit a laptop for some kind of device on the scent itself instead of having it on the table or something to serve have it flush with a scent so you could use it in a certain way.
Exactly, why name it Gaia? its a new Product... marketing fail... Finaly a great new product though a proper instrument, .... no more beam sensor.......
The original was more my thing. Besides, the mushy buttons on this one, not a fan. With a synth that has that much hands on controls it’s sad they didn’t make them more tactile friendly.
Seems like Roland are running out of names for their synths. This really isn't anything like the original gaia. I'll pass on it. Good short review though orher than your low microphone audio 👍
Thanks! it's similar in that it's a beginner-friendly 37-key digital synth with a hands-on interface and lots of FX, but it's true the layering system of the GAIA 1 and it's predecessor the SH-201 is gone
Original Gaia is an awful facsimile of the JD800 or any workstation keyboard Roland has made this century. Just get a JD-08 module instead or a Juno-Di or Juno-DS.
only if you want to use the VST plugin versions, model expansions loaded on the synth will run regardless of whether you have an active membership with Roland Cloud.
@@StoreDJ_online Is there a limit to the number of modal expansions that can be loaded onto the Synth? Can all the loaded modal expansions be backed up, in case there is a need to do a reset of the synth?
@@vladsnape6408 yes, the expansions are installed by downloading them onto a USB drive, just make sure to backup those files. unsure about a limit, in the manual it shows 4 models installed, we'll reach out to Roland for clarification 🙂
Yeah too bad this will cost 2K +, when you can get a Argon 8 with FATAR keybed and a similar sequencer for 1/2 the price, this is a hard sell for Wavetable, then add a Cobalt8 and you have your VA for the Gaia2 $.
@@StoreDJ_online OK $1599 is a game changer, and that is their RRP which makes it a ton more attractive given things do come down in $. You single handedly managed to show this synth is much more than its built-in presets. It sounds incredible.
thanks very much, GAIA2 is great fun and super capable 💪
I think the synth is good for techno, psytrance and dnb. Hard synth presets but i would like to see more some stuffs for house, ambient and retrowave.
I was originally going to get the Minifreak but this has really caught my eye and now I'm likely going to get this instead
Great little synth......I'm sold ! .......I think that's the first time I heard someone say 'Super Hectic'
Sounds crisp and clean just like Id expect from Roland.

This synth looks dope! I agree with your sentiment on it being a synth for sound design instead of just keyboard users
For sure, there's so many hidden surprises on this synth, great fun!
Synth sounds great and so does Mike's voice. Whoever put this together did great work.
Many thanks, the more interesting demo i've seen till now about this synth. We can better understand what's under the hood... and there's a lot !
That patch at 4:25 is quite amazing. Send it this way.
They have a direct scatter effect as MFX now. Was pondering about that a while ago playing with the mc101 that only has that as pad effect..
They do this colour so they can charge more for limited edition Black.

Roland really don't have the best sound engine. Behringer JT4000 for $49 sounds better. The JDXI was pants too. All their plugins sound pants too!

I first thought it was a new Korg Minilogue with an XY/Kaoss Pad ... but no - it's a Roland :) Pitty it doesn't have ACB (confirmed y/n?)
Don't believe so, Model Expansions look to be done with zencore
Hopefully Roland will release a stage version, as this is a studio tabletop and bedroom version
Roland isn't Korg, and this isn't a Modwave. 61 keys would have rocked, but they would have had to do it from the start.
Awesome!! Thank you for sharing!!!
