Usually patients dont want to put in the effort to get better, since most don’t maintain their health. The only way that might work is finding out if there were specific tasks where they appreciated having muscle usage. Regarding fixing a conflict. I guess we would have to figure out what is going on. I don’t really care if I’m not supposed to have authority, or whatever, if I am automatically in trouble because I’m not a manager, that might not be the job for me.
You’re absolutely right about that. Finding “functional tasks” that are important for the patient will be a great way to measure progress. This is an awesome thing to pay attention to because these are meaningful for the patient.

Im SO GLAD you commented this! Ill actually be posting that video this Monday! Stoked to share with you and answer all your concerns and questions on there. Literally will have all your questions answerd haha but to comment on your concern with mask: I do not think its disrepectful at all to visit. There is nothing harmful/disrepectful in visiting with the proper PPE (typically a mask). Show your face and ask to speak with the owner and ask him/her some questions. And lets just say they don't feel comfortable with you visiting; the worst case will be that you will be asked to leave. But no harm in that. Hey Justin , found your channel recently and gained alot of info about the pt schools in the US. I'm an international student pursuing my final year of Bachelor's of physiotherapy at the moment . Been planning to do my masters in the US but since it's only DPT now , I have heard there's a transitional DPT or post professional DPT for people with a BPT degree .Would be really helpful if you could make a video about Tdpt , universities which offer this program and mostly which are on campus as I have found most of them to be distance learning programs . Thank you 😊
Wow super interesting!!! What exactly is a "Tdpt?" Im curious because I've been getting several comments about international students wanting to pursue PT in the US. Would love your feedback!
@@drjustinleedpt Hey, so as we know DPT is an entry level program eligible for students with a bachelor's degree and not particularly bachelor's in physical therapy , and by the end of 3 years of DPT you would have a doctor of physical therapy degree as in you don't necessarily have to pursue a higher /master's degree (MPT) ( phd is a diff topic) but incase of other countries as in India, we have bachelor's of physical therapy of 4 years and a master's of 2 years . But since I want to pursue my masters in the US , the rate of masters programs have decreased and DPT is now widely known and accepted . The tdpt - transitional DPT (can be completed in one and half or 2 years depending on the University) is for students who have already done their Bachelor's of PT and want to advance their degree to the higher level (DPT),this program is offered mostly to the physical therapist who have an US license to practice but very few universities also offer international students who do not have an US license and only have their home license of practice . So, it would be helpful if you maybe know anyone who can give info about such Universities . Sorry for the long rant 😅 it's totally okay if you do not have any info about this and thank you for replying 🤗
@@lydiarebekah1740 wow thats super intersting!! I just researched it a bit and yes, it seems like you need to have a licensed degree in the US to participate in any tDPT program. unfortunately, I do not know of anyone who part-took in this program, but I know international students who are trying to work as a PT in the US typically need to get accepted into a PT program that accepts international degrees. You should look into "international student DPT program in the united states" and see what pops up
@@drjustinleedpt Oh no , it's totally cool , I've been trying to find out from other resources too ,just really glad that you took the time to reply to all my comments 🥰

Thank you soooo much for this video it gave me just the confidence I needed for my interview I had today 🙏🏾 I do have a question for you I have a degree in exercise science and it’s my goal to possibly become a PTA because I’m more of a hands on person. Do you think that’s normal, some people look at me sideways when I say it but I feel like I would be more happy and fulfilled going down that path and do you have any advice?
Patricia !! This is great news! I wanna know: did you get the job?! And to answer your question, i think its absolutely normal and common for students who have their bachelors and goes to PTA school. Dont think anything less of yourself even though PTA is a associates degree.
I did not like working as an aide. I worked at an outpatient clinic, lead PT treated all the aides like crap(she wasn't much nicer to the clients either). We were also constantly expected to take 3-5 clients through all of their prescribed exercises all at the same time, in different areas of the clinic, who were working with different PTs. While doing that, we would get fussed at for looking at their chart because and I quote, "You should be able to memorize all of their exercises, if you cant do that much you're just stupid". That doesn't seem like much but when each client has around 8-25 exercises with different weights or resistances for the equipment for those exercises, and different rep ranges, it adds up. There was sooo much more too. It was by far the worst work experience I have ever had and the reason I decided not to go into physical therapy. I loved the patients but now I work in fitness and preventative health and love what i do. I'm sure not every place is like that and I have much respect for everyone who works in PT, but my aide experience ruined it for me.
Unfortunately that is the way the culture is in physical therapy. I had the same curiosity when I was working as a PT aide. It was always a complaint that we got paid minimum wage and super overworked with every minute during the shift. And when you compare salaries to other positions, it makes you feel super crappy about yourself. However, it is the way the culture is and nobody is willing to pay more because if he can offer little salary and if student are still willing to accept the offer.. than why increase wages?
@@drjustinleedpt yeah, I worked as a PT aide for five years and my salary did not budge the only reason why I went up a little bit was because they could not find anybody to work along with me everybody kept on quitting. I think also a lot of people don’t really know much about the position so there isn’t a lot of Advocacy to get them paid more money like there are for retail or fast food workers if I could do it over I wouldn’t have done it I did it because I thought it would help me get into the school but for me it didn’t help so I gave up on it. I hope one day things will change.
@@rara1800 I am so sorry to hear that gaining more observation hours was not enough leverage for your acceptance.. if you still can muster up the courage to try to apply again, I know with the proper guidance you CAN get admitted. If you are willing, I can help you! I totally agree with you that aides get paid sh*t and super overworked. I always disagreed with how much aides get taken advantage of. I’ve even seen places utilize them for front desk and admin work too, which is ridiculous. It is unfortunate because that is the standard of salary and honestly it would take an army to change that. & sadly, I think aides are just there to gain experience and move on so there isn’t really a push for increased salary. I always thought about it this way: the priority is it get observation hours for the pt application and gain experience - and most students volunteer and do this for free. So if I could get SOME money from this, that’s all extra. You see the mindset?
@@drjustinleedpt yes, absolutely! I 100% agree. However, my overall GPA was 2.5 so it’s out of reach for me at this point. I was actually handing the phones and paperwork when I was an aide! Plus the workplace I was at was VERY toxic. I just wish I could jump back in time and never pursued this field.
I have a interview to be a aide soon, I'm now 40 and have no work experience being a stay at home mom for 17 years. Is there any different advice would you give me being older?
It should not… Jobs should be discriminate you based on your speech problem. Keep practicing your interview skills. Practice from my tips from this video!
Hey quick question is there different types of kinesiology majors? I am applying to CSU’s right now and there is a bunch. I do not know which ones to select because I am looking to become a PT.
It really does NOT matter what "emphasis" you choose in kinesiology, yet alone your major. However, having a kinesiology/exercise science will 100% provide much more value to you than an unrelated major. What are the types of kinesiology majors? Maybe I could help you! Email me and let's talk liftforchange@gmail.com
You are going to be prepared and amazing. I know it! I’m sure after watching this video, it helped boost you confidence. Go in there portraying the eagerness to learn and grow. They will love you!
I’m about to graduate with a health science degree with a concentration in pre-occupational therapy, did you work under OTs too or see any aides for OTs or can they count as the same when it comes to getting the experience? At this point I have no shadow hours but see a lot of rehab aide positions available in my home city.
That's a great question. To my knowledge, you MUST shadow a PT in order for PT observation hours to count. Since a PT has to sign off on observed hours, it has to be at a PT setting by default. I would recommend getting started with those rehab aide positions for PT.
@@drjustinleedpt I think i did great! The owner said she was impressed. I asked the questions that you elaborated too!! @@alilassi3679 HECK YESSSS!!!! Dude congrats!! This make me so happy that my video directly helped your interview process. I’m so so so so so happy! Thanks for sharing the feedback! I just shared this comment on my social platforms because this is so great! Let me know if you have any questions when you’re a volunteer! This is the start of great things fa coming your way 🤩
Hey Justin , found your channel recently and gained alot of info about the pt schools in the US.
You should look into "international student DPT program in the united states" and see what pops up
I wish I could be more help to you!

Yes!! I did end up getting the job I’m so happy to start this new journey!! Thank you so much for everything 🙏🏾

@@patriciap4638 Congratulations! Also, thank you for asking! I am currently in the same boat!
I'm sure not every place is like that and I have much respect for everyone who works in PT, but my aide experience ruined it for me.
that ciara bit 🙄🙄🤣🤣 same old kuya justin
got to keep it fun hahaha LEVEL UP BABY
I wonder what would be the best attire to wear for PT tech interview if its virtual?
I’m just curious why are rehab aides paid extremely little? A Chipotle or Costco employee seems to be valued a lot more than a pt aide.
@@rara1800 I am sorry to hear you had a poor experience... ): this breaks my heart.

Will a speech problem affect my ability todo this job I got an interview today and I’m vary nervous
How long should I stay in a pt aide position for?
I have an interview in 4 hours for a PT aide position in so nervous
You are going to be prepared and amazing. I know it! I’m sure after watching this video, it helped boost you confidence. Go in there portraying the eagerness to learn and grow. They will love you!
Comment back after your interview to share how it went!
I have an interview in 4.5hours. 🙏🏼💪🏼
Oh dang!!! How did it go?! How did you feel you did?
@@drjustinleedpt I think i did great! The owner said she was impressed. I asked the questions that you elaborated too!! Can I just get a physical therapy certificate and get a job I just have a high school diploma
Hi! So I have my interview soon and the physical therapist said to have enough space on the floor because she will ask me to “demonstrate a movement” do you have any idea what type of movements she’s referring to??
She may possibly ask you to perform an exercise that is common in the clinic. Maybe a squat, bridge, sit to stand, stretch, etc. she is likely looking to see if you can demonstrate it right proper form and to give clear instructions. I’m curious to see why she asked that of you! Message me back after!!!!
