  • Hey all! Got a bit of the winter "blahs" the past few weeks, so apologies for the lack of uploads recently. However we're back at it today with a look at how to play the classic Rainbow track Since You've Been Gone from 1979.
Hope you enjoy and find it accurate and helpful.
    Cheers, KDA

Russ Ballard also wrote "New York Groove" which was covered by Ace Frehley. One of my other favorite Ballard tunes after "Since You've Been Gone" is "Voices." That song was used on an episode of Miami Vice. Damn when did I get old?

I was first exposed to Ritchie Blackmore on Machine Head. Been a fan ever since. Thanks for posting KDA.

    Superb again Kelly!
I remember Russ Ballard from when he was with "Argent" He also wrote, I Surrender, God gave rock n roll to you, New York Groove" and many others. I was always fascinated by his erm... Strat with all the holes in the body

Awesome... I think Ritchie's entry into the solo of this song is the of best of any rock song, pure genius.

Yet another gem from the past I'd forgotten until your video, KDA. Thanks much!
I see an unfamiliar amp you're using. Is that new? Also, what model Blackstar have you been using for the stellar tones in your recent videos? (I have a new HT-5R MkII that's been a tonal paradigm shift.)

The big tube amp behind me is a Canadian made Traynor YCV50 blue. Amazing amp. That little Blackstar is the ID Core 20.

Richie has always been a god to me the first time I heard smoke on the water through somebody's eight-track when I was 10 years old. Just totally blew me away. Thank you for acknowledging him. Also. Could you also maybe do something with a rarity by them called flight of the rat which is awesome jam

I don’t see Rainbow when I hear that song. I see very vividly Brian May at the Brixton with Cathy Porter and Shelley Preston. Those two were the best two back up singers I have ever seen in my 65 years.

,Hi Kelly, I always thought this was a pop song until I heard it was Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. Street of Dreams and a few others until Ronnie James Dio joined or did Dio start with Rainbow? Anyway a lot different music. Catch a Rainbow was a great melody song. Thanks for getting me off my daily active Melody lessons. I needed to take a break and play something else. Are you still at the restaurant? Peace 🕊️

Originally the band was called Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow and Dio was singing, then next album name changed to Rainbow. Dio ditched to go with Sabbath 1979. Graham Bonnet unfortunately did only one album following Dio’s departure, then Joe Lynn Turner took it to pop rock era. Late 1990’s Doogie White took vocals.
