When that song was on the radio I couldn’t help but crank it up really loud
Wow... You mean to tell me that for 30 plus years one of my FAVORITE Pink Floyd songs was, in fact, NOT Pink Floyd?!😂 Well I guess that explains why I never could find it on any of THEIR albums... Further Proof that you're NEVER Too old to learn... Thank You Kelly!
Thank you ! I grew up and live on the BC border of Washington state and am probably the most Canadian American you’ll know. There is so much good Canadian music that people don’t know about…
You are now an offically welcomed Immigrant, a "Sanctuary Seeker' whoo needs Good Music! Jump across, get out of the Crazy Town America has become. You're a Hoser now!!
Love this song in the movie Vision Quest!
By far the most accurate and comprehensive tutorial. Thank you!
Excellent, teacher you really rock. This actually entertained us! I learn songs all the time and my wife loves to jamb but she never gets all the way through a guitar lesson. You had it all the way! Thanks
Another Canadian classic .......... hard to find great tutorials doing Canadian songs. Ever thing about doing Barney Bentall .... Something to Live For ????
Excellent guitar playin' & coachin' right there...Thank you...🤘🎸🤘
Hugely popular in the Midwest of the United States back in the day, and it still gets some play on occasion.
Great timing on this lesson and topic as I re-watched the movie Vision Quest just a couple of weeks ago for the first time since the 1980s.
Great job on this, have a good weekend.
Very popular tune here in Texas during the early 80's
All the way down here by Nawlins' (New Orleans) this was a huge hit with us rocking people. Great song.
You always pull out those forgotten gems. Thanks man
Great lesson! I never thought about trying to play this song, even though I grew up appreciating it….I will play it now!
Thank you
It was a hit here in the US to ….still one of my favorites today. The entire album is awesome. Was stoked to find a lesson for it .
Perfect lesson! Love this song. Had no idea how some of this was played before watching. Seems accessible now! Thanks for sharing! Nice slide work too!
Thanks chipper!
Grew up in the metro Detroit area. Always loved Canadian music.
Got a lot of airplay back in the 80's on the "rock" station I picked up out of Pittsburgh, even before Tom Cochrane had his mainstream hit "Life is a Highway". Love this song.
NIce background and lesson Kelly - this has always been my favourite Red Rider song. Such a great riff and all those different chord progressions sound so wonderful. Really like your take on that slide solo too! Bookmarking this one for future study and practice. BTW, congrats on hitting the 40K mark! ☺ 🐸
Thanks man! Been a long slog to 40,000 haha. 5 years. But we're picking up steam lately. A few videos (one that's 2 years old) have gone somewhat viral and have boosted my channel significantly over the past 2 months. This keeps up we'll hit that hundred thou number next year I hope.
great lesson clear and perfect speed to learn ,thanks I'm subscribed now!
Awesome! KDA!🎸🔥🙏
Thanks, never thought of playing this before. It's a Great Song. 🙂👍
My buddy won the Life is a Highway Single Cd at Dollywood in Sevierville Tn circa early 90s!
The rock stations in California used to play this a lot, but I never knew they were Canadian. Learn something new every day + another iconic song.
Thats for the refresher on Lunatic Fringe. always loved that song back in the day. Never learned to play it till now "Thanks"
Great job!
This song paints such an amazing soundscape.
That 'slide' guitar solo is brutal!
I just got actual goosebumps as you played through it!
Just fantastic!
Right on KDA! Your an awesome teacher!
Thanks, you make the lesson very understandable! Always loved this song.l
I was born in canada to us parents in military and raised in S C USA but this song was a big hit through my teen years and have always loved it esp the break down and lead , it brings back great memories and fun as hell to play , thank you for reminding me of a great song
It always reminds me of the movie Vision Quest.
You speak my language. Thank you. btw....I saw Red Rider open for RUSH 2 nights in a row at the Maple Leaf Garden in 84.
Excellent video thank you so much for doing it. I've been searching for a lesson on this tune for a while and could never find one that sounded and felt good. I was a high school wrestler in the '90s and this song was on The vision quest movie soundtrack. I know I've listened to this song over a thousand times.
Authentic & outstanding, thanks so much.
Just found your channel, what a fantastic teacher👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
Love that song
Great job, thanks Killer Kelly. From Cape Town SA

I bought that album when it first came out in the USA. Love it. And Toms voice.

I freaking grew up with this song. It plays on lical FM radio in TN USA since I was a kid. Tom Cochrane is sick!
Great lesson love it.thank you
Hey, thanks so much!!
Excellent.
Good job, love that song. I'm gonna start working it now thank you
Was as hard core as anything back in 1981. Great tune
Classic!!
Thank you for the explanation Kelly, this has always been a favorite of mine. I remember hearing it when I was a freshman in 81. You definitely earned my sub sir. Thank you for such a great job. Keep up the tremendous work! 🙂
Cool lesson I thought the slide sounded great. I just subscribed Thanks
One of the first songs I learned how to play when I got my first guitar some 45 years ago. LOL Great lesson! Nice to revisit it.
Very good job. Awesome
Awesome job Thank you
"Great jam!"
Awesome!!! Thanks.
Great job, thanks!
It was every high school wrestling team's entrance music in the 80s and 90s in my area
Thank you for uploading this. It’s a classic!! I love it!
An actual playthrough would be so very helpful for those maybe a little more advanced and able to get a handle on it if they can see it played. Thanks....appreciate you efforts and your guitar playing. :D
Classic track. Love it❤
Fantastic….I’ve always loved this song…great jam👍
Louden Swayne!!! Nice Kelly
That song was in heavy rotation on WMMS in Cleveland back in the early 80's! Thanks for the lesson - I've been working on Ah Leah lately (same era - easy power chords) so this will fit right in.
Thanks Kelly.
Great lesson. I was just listening to their album Don't Fight It earlier this week.
I wanted to learn this song and not surprised at all that you have a lesson on it. Glad I subscribed to your channel a few years ago. Another great lesson. I need to work on more of your songs.
Yes, a great song (I must be in that demographics group too!) and a great lesson - not so difficult when it is well taught, as you so often do. And the slide solo as well! Much appreciated as always!
Thanks KDA! I heard this on "Miami Vice" back in the 80s and it always haunted me for years until I found out what it was and got hold of a copy. Now I'm well on the way to playing it. Simple enough, but lots of practice required to get the smoothness and flow down properly. Great lesson sir! Really enjoying your channel.
All the best from the UK. :-)
I first heard this song in Mindhunters
Not to be that guy but this song doesn't fade out. It actually has an awesome, power-chord laden ending.
Hello Kelly,
This feed just popped up here and as soon a I saw the song you're teaching I had to have a peak...
This song was on so much back in the early 80's ( New Yorker here ) and it's a real cool song too, thanks for doing this. Just subbed your channel of course!
Thanks again,
Tommy~
Like And subscribe. Thank you for that excellent lesson. I saw a Red Ryder open for Foreigner in the late 70s early 80s can't remember exactly LOL... most excellent bands.
EXCELLENT!! YOU SURELY KNOW HOW TO PLAY THAT ONE TOO!! ONE OF MY FAVORITES THANKS!!! Kelly, you seem to be a pretty cool dude. Canada a? I'm an old guitar player from Texas who just found you tonight. Third video & I will be subscribing!
Loved this song and Cowboys in Hong Kong. Maybe a lesson on Greg Kuhn Band - Breakup Song. Another fun sing.
I love your song selections, we are about the same age and have similar tastes, I'm not Canadian though eh. :) Thanks for all the lessons!
Woah Kelly!! congrats on hitting 40K subscribers!!!!!!! Well deserved!!!!!!!!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks man! Yep, kind of nice. Had an old video go viral the past month. Really gave me a boost.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar - Outstanding, which one??

This Gary Moore lick video.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar - Wow! That was an amazing lesson! I can see why it went viral!
@@CC-qb9sm lots of complaints about talking too much, haha. That's kind of my thing!
A pedal steel guitar was mainly use in this song, Even in the lead solo guitar.
Just a minor correction on the ending. At 4 minutes and 11 seconds on the recording he hits the first chord four times instead of two. He does that just the one time.
Great tune and thanks for sharing.can you do some Jethro Tull like Aqua Lung, or anything else of your choice.
Thanks! Great lesson. What can you play behind the solo??
Hey man,
I saw one of your videos a few years back about you modding your Donner DST and I have the exact same guitar and am looking to start modding it aswell. I was wondering where you found that black pickguard that fit the guitar perfectly since I dont know wether the fender stratocaster ones online could fit mine?
Thanks man you just gained a new subscriber!
Awesome lesson and song. Is that the 245 you're playing Sir ?
This song is so much better than Life is a highway. That song gets on my nerves.
Canada Pride lol. Yes it was a huge hit in the USA. If you're over 50 you've heard it...not mainly Canada. Too funny, man.
Great tune, Any Headpins ?
Tom Cochrane doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
BTW, the first time I heard “Lunatic Fringe” I thought it was Pink Floyd.
kelly, ive noticed your last few videos the guitar is low and very thin sounding. Not being critical but your vids have never sounded like this. Anyway great lesson as usual .
👏👏👏👏👍👍
Vision Quest
its a steel guitar on the solo
The solo has a Floyd vibe to me.
Sweet lookin watch. what is it?

Hi Kelly, we meet again, lol. You were putting so much music out, I thought you crashed. Where have you been. Working your other job or got a girlfriend, right?
Still here mate, haha. Still going strong.
@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar that's good but I haven't got any of your shorts or lessons for quite awhile.
