I know you have many fans, but I just wanted to take a moment and express my gratitude and respect to you for your time, effort, and information that you have shared over the years in your videos. You videos are by far my favorite on youtube and in my spare time I watch them and sometimes I watch the same ones over and over again, lol. I have learned very much about knives, sharpening, and for sure about bark river knives! I am also a hunter and a knife sharpener, but until I saw your videos, I had not heard of bark river knives. I now have 9 bark river knives and have several more I plan to buy. I love them and hardly ever use any of my other knives anymore because the bark river knives are so good for hunting and skinning deer. So thank you so much for your youtube channel and all the wonderful, entertaining, and informative content you have shared over the years. Hope you have a super excellent hunting season this year!
This is another wonderful fire side flyfishing videos. I know it takes a lot of effort to film and then edit your videos. I want you to know that I really appreciate all the effort and time you take. Your videos are among my top favorites. Thank you for all you do. God bless you and your wonderful family. John
There is something special about this man. He's connected to earth in a way most people are not. I'm not saying he is unique, lots of us here in this comments section are like him, at least in spirit, but all in all it's becoming a rarity in our modern societies. Something has been lost. We all feel that. Those videos show us what man used to be before going nuts. And it feels good. Thanks Doc !
Wakosan, I've watched every of your fishing and cooking videos and have never been bored for a second. I've decided to retire in Hokkaido and, hopefully, accompany you on these outings in the future. Greetings from Texas. PS. If you ever visit the USA, I invite you to my home town and hunt (deer, hogs, ducks...) with me. I'll show you how to field dress deer the Texan style!
Dr. Wako son . . . this is one of your best riverside videos yet! I love how you briefly discuss the ecology of the flora and fauna and our stewardship of these pristine streams. I also like how you explain how you use your cooking kit, including how to properly prepare Japanese rice in you German mess kit. As always, the display and use of your Bark River knives is always a treat. I just received my new Titanium five inch Firebox stove, and the light weight is amazing. You must order one from Steve. You will love it. Thank you for sharing these delightful fishing trips in your beautiful mountains. You are my Number 1 source of video enjoyment. On another note, I'm guessing your "little" girl is all grown up by now, and perhaps away at college?. Maybe she could make an appearance in one of your videos.
As always sir! Absolute pleasure to see you post one of your riverside firebox/knife/fishing videos!:) It made my day!;) Love your adventures in Japan!
Thank you for taking us along on another adventure! I bought a Bark River Bushcrafter based on your videos. Actually, I even bought the Ultralight Bushcrafter, and that can be carried in a pocket.
I know you don't care much for Fox River ext-1. As you enjoy regular fox river more for hunting. However I find it a very good knife For bushcraft. Maybe you would enjoy it as well. I enjoyed this video! And thank you for all the videos through out your channel over the years, I learned waterstone sharpening because of them. Very Much knowledge to be learned by watching you.

Good morning from the USA! Thank you for sharing this autumn fishing and lunch outing. The rice and sashimi look absolutely delicious! I have probably asked this previously: are the waters in the northern Hokkaido mountains clear of giardia and other parasites that can cause intestinal problems? Here on the East Coast of the US, we have to boil, filter or sterilize surface water through other means (stream, lake, etc.) or risk a nasty infection and visit to the doctor. I hope that your hunting season has been fruitful!
Thought you may want to know that a titanium version of the Firebox has just been released. It is the same size and half the weight of the 5" stainless steel Firebox. This was announced to the email subscribers for pre-order and may not be shown on the website yet. But you can email them and I think they will let you order one. Love your videos and your appreciation for good design in gear.

Great video. I always enjoy your outdoor videos and am looking forward to your hunting and field dressing videos. Have you tried the Tenkara rod for fishing those small mountain streams? Seems like it would be perfect for that and collapses so packing in/ out would be easy.
What is the name of the microscope you are using in your sharpening videos? I watched most of your videos in search of that information and couldn’t find it. Please let me know what it is because it is the best I have seen so far. Thank you so much!
I always enjoy the riverside videos. I must ask, what is the chance of finding parasites in the fish? I fish freshwater and parasites are semi common. I would love to try fresh sashimi.
We Japanese have a long history of eating freshwater trouts in raw without any parasite diseases. So I feel safe with eating them. Many species of carps have many parasites and we never eat them in raw though. Thanks.

Very touching mentioning Japan's protection of its fisheries for future generations. The same Japanese fisheries which allowed Mitsubishi to over fish Tuna and now have a reported 10 years "Stock"in deep freeze, just in case they run out! Before Fukashima poisoned the worlds supply! Also the same fisheries that are happy to ignore UN whaling bans, and slaughter as many Whales, as they can get away with. Do you want me to go on? How about the yearly dolphin slaughter in Taiji, which is very carefully left off main stream coverage, great culture, a beautiful country, but cold/savage people, a very different culture than Australia.
