They, plus the title of what they play, need to be placed beneath the title of this wonderful international piano competition. Their appearing on the video for a few seconds is simply not enough.

      You have to understand the different approaches. There may not be a Russian style of playing but there is definitely a Russian school. Elza Ritter (now living in the US) writes about the differences. The Russian "school" too demanding. Americans, though, are obsessed with fun and were simply "wasting her time.". Some note that as teh Bolsheviks destroyed the old Russia they left music and ballet schools in place.
      The "school" is actually several musical academies with the same curriculum. The key is hard work. Polyrhythms are introduced very early. Solfeggio classes make incredible intellectual demands on students, The curriculum is organized and grading severe - only the best remain. They learn to listen, to see music not as notes but as harmony and counterpoint. They sing, play in groups, study musical theory , history and artistic influences. (Tellingly, Americans are increasingly rejecting our cultural influences as Russians embrace theirs.) Many pianists have talked of practicing before dawn in a room so cold they could see their breath. The one difference I know is touch. Russians hit the keys with the tips of their fingers, even on the black notes. Americans inevitably flatten their hands which diminishes the legato.

      @smb123211 5 лет назад

      @@psforrest1 Well, Russians are not different than Americans but I do think (from a personal perspective having gotten out some time ago) that two things are paramount: (1) Marxism destroyed the country's institutions so we looked "back" to our classical icons and (2) Very rough conditions created a work ethic that few in the West can match. Let's face it - you are not getting loads of kids taking classical music when all they hear from every venue - malls restaurants, cars, homes, etc is lamebrain juvenile "popular" music or rap. (And the classics are not only ignored but denigrated.) It boils down to an instilled work ethic. It's why our Olympic athlete's never hail from NYC or DC or Chicago or Philadelphia. No, it's Poduck, Iowa, Hicktown, Montant, Savannah, Georgia, Tinyplace, Ill.

    • @psforrest1
      @psforrest1 5 лет назад

      @@smb123211 Funny, as I teach piano in Iowa! But we don't like to be called Podunk! Iowa is highly educated, especially in university towns, as where I live. However, I'm not talking about the work ethic, which clearly is not as developed in the U.S., although we see it among children of immigrants. I'm referring to the amazing musical maturity and sensitivity.

    На мой слух Мартин выступил лучше всех. Мальчик увлекает дирижёра, а с ним и весь оркестр в свой мир понимания произведения, в свой стиль исполнения. Получается тонкая гармония: перестаёшь замечать звучание отдельных инструментов. Мартин исполнял исключительно вдохновенно, и я лично получил очень большое эстэтическое наслаждение. Может и были, некоторые технические ошибочки - это со временем отшлифуется.

    Indeed this boy is obviously a prodigy. This is made abundantly clear as Rodion Shakiov performs the second movement of this piece. Here Rodion plays with lyrical sentiment and poise most pianist never achieve. As for Rodion's wan complexion, this is very likely normal as it is commonly seen in the children of Central Europe . His split lower lip is of concern, but his cheeks brightened during his well deserved applause and the shy smile he gave us surely indicates he was headed directly off stage to enjoy milk and cookies. • @dracorpgroup
      @dracorpgroup 5 лет назад

      @Dave Smith Thank you for your reply. There is a lot of truth in your statement. My only point is that, for example, it would be unlikely for an Olympic Swimming Champion to emerge from the population of Eskimo people living in the very far North, or, for a brilliant machinist to rise from a country where there has been no industrialization. As for Beethoven, well, there may been individuals capable of such achievement but if they existed 10,000 years ago there would have been no piano, there would have been no piano industry and, hence, no genius for the piano. Why do so many patents come out of the USA? Because there is a culture in the USA that supports that and protects the intellectual property rights. Just look at how many Nobel Prize winners come from the USA. It is very large; the culture supports such efforts.

Вот таких детей воспитывать, лелеять, конечно, и остальных не забывать. Человеки! На Земле столько талантов, ну они же не с Марса прилетают. Дайти им пути - дороги, берегите их. И никакие НАТО не нужно будет.

    Young talented musicians.
    Ana Warner, do not try to impart the superiority of the Russian people to the rest of the people
