I'm just a guitarist looking to make a few improvements in my bass playing for recording stuff. My initial target is to just get clean at what Mark calls slow (8:18). The advice on ghost notes generally being used to lead into fretted notes is the kind of little nugget of wisdom I watch his videos for. 👍
This is one of the coolest slap bass riffs I have ever heard and the sound is just sick! Never heard distorted bass slapping before. Can you please tell how you achieve that kind of sound? Also subscribed to your channel, for me so far the best bass channel on RUclips. Love to learn more with your content. Cheers!
Ha, I played bass for years and had no idea what was going on with bands like Primus until I started watching these videos and realised how much the left hand was doing. Changes everything, right? 😂
Important to emphasize using two fingers over two strings for the ghost note. I tried this a few years ago and kept getting hammer ons because just my pinky was hitting the bottom E 5 th fret.
Just what I’ve been needing. Another LESSON I CANT FIND… I need to learn how to apply slap patterns to a rhythm or drum loop. I hope you see this cuz you’re a great teacher.
with that mindset you’re probably right. practice slow and intentional to be as accurate as you can. your brain and your muscles WILL make the connection and you WILL improve… that’s a fact. The ‘secret sauce’ is to not doubt the process, and don’t rush it.

Just starting this I can already feel that it'll take some time to maintain stamina through it all so seems like it's on point!
You are a great teacher!
Thanks so much.
That riff is cool as hell Mark
I am still an amateur but this will be a good start to start slapping!
Excellent! This will help me in learning the Red Hot Chili Peppers version of Higher Ground.
Thanks once again, Mark!

Looking forward to putting this into practice! Thank you. :)
Good job
You should do more exercices like this
Thanks. That said, I’ve got a ton of slap grooves like this on the channel and the slap course at the site has about 50 of them.
Gnarly tone!! Your strings must be fairly low?
This is great. Thank you mark. I didn’t even know about left hand slap lol, I’m embarrassed
You can get nice percussive triples going with a right hand pop, left hand slap, right thumb slap.

Nice way to build up speed

Love it... Very mark king ish ❤
Not really sure how Mark is hitting the two ghost notes in the G section. Does he use LH muted slap for the first, or two muted thumb slaps on the G?
Intro nice sir

Please Mark, I wanna know why do u use a 4-strings bass guitar instead of a 5-string guitar
Today's riff is written specifically for this lesson and allows you to practice the basic techniques of both slapping and popping .
dat first note iz written as a F# it should be an E
You might benefit from Mark's sight reading course.🙂
Eyes waterfalling !?
I've never learned to slap. I think my thumb is incompatible.
