- This is the closing theme music to the 1978-1979 version of "Jeopardy!" which aired on NBC-TV daytime and was hosted by Art Fleming. This music, titled "Frisco Disco" by Merv Griffin, was also used as prize description music on "Wheel Of Fortune".
Thank you, Art Fleming!!! The original host of Jeopardy!!!!!
Not to mention, this was the main theme (after Art enters the stage). The contestant intro is "January February March", also by Merv Griffin.
Yes. "January February March" was the main theme for the first syndicated pilot taped September 18, 1983 featuring Alex Trebek and Jay Stewart, whom is probably best known for announcing the game show "Let's Make A Deal". The commercial break cue was "Nightwalk", another then future prize cue for Wheel. That's also when "Think!" by Merv Griffin had returned. The alliteration of "Think!" didn't become the main theme until a pilot taped New Year's day 1984 when Johnny Gilbert has first announced on the show. The music from the original 1964-1975 series of Jeopardy on NBC was titled "Take Ten" by Merv's then wife Julann Griffin, or, more commonly known as Julann Wright.
Merv must have been a walking jukebox machine! 😂
Yeah
Having recently see "The All-New Jeopardy!" for the first time, I can't help but wonder why they even changed the format. Thank goodness they changed it back to the original format when Alex Trebek took over, and he's done it ever since. I believe in the proverb, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," and that's what they should have done.
Art Fleming was a phenomenal host, however, so a plus was seeing him still doing the show he did best.
I totally agree. No wonder Art Fleming said he hated this version of Jeopardy!
@@gladfan1989 Art hated this version? I didn't know that.
My guess would be -- and this is only a guess -- that it was common practice at the time for game shows to have bonus rounds where champions were given a shot at winning $5K, $10K, whatever, and I would guess Merv wanted to make that possible with Jeopardy! as well. But that idea, of course, didn't fly with those who were avid fans of the original Jeopardy!
@@fredmckinney8933 I wouldn't be surprised. The change in the final round in this version didn't bother me as much as the fact that at the end of the Jeopardy! Round, the player in last place is eliminated.
Love this and Oh how I wish we could get a clean intro and closing theme to the original Jeopardy!
R.I.P. Art Fleming, John Harlan, Merv Griffin, Jack Clark, Charlie O'Donnell, Don Pardo, and most importantly, Alex Trebek.
And now Richard King, died at 79 today.
Art Fleming is just as important as Trebek but ok
I wish that there was a time machine to take me back in time and see all of Art Fleming's Jeopardy! shows from 1964-75 (NBC), 1974-75 (weekly syndication) and 1978-79 (NBC) all over again.
Frisco Disco, the future prize theme cue on Wheel of Fortune from 1983-89 (NBC/Syndication).
QBCNetwork Frisco Disco was the name of the theme used on the ABC soap “The Edge of Night” from 1980-84.
And now, entering the studio is the host of "Jeopardy!", Art Fleming!
Hey I love this closing theme.
That Frisco Disco theme many many years later brings back a lot of memories for me as well as a lot of other popular game show themes.OMG still remember the old MERV GRIFFIN PRODUCTION LOGO!!from Art Fleming & Alex Trebek.s Jeopardy! & Chuck Woolery and Susan Stafford.s & Pat Sajak and Vanna White.s Wheel Of Fortune as well.
Don't forget Dance Fever with Denny Terio.
This was one of the prize themes on Wheel of Fortune
I remember vaguely watching the 78-79 Jeopardy!!with Art Fleming when I was between 6 & 7 years old who absolutely loved game shows but not really paying full attention like an adult would. Also I remember that FRISCO DISCO theme from the nighttime syndicated Wheel Of Fortune when started with contestants spending their winnings GOING SHOPPING before switching to cash in late 1987.A shout out to the original Wheel team Chuck Woolery & Susan Stafford & then Pat Sajak and Vanna White!! RIP ART FLEMING JOHN HARLIN MERV GRIFFIN JACK CLARK CHARLIE O'DONNELL & LAST BUT NOT LEAST ALEX TREBEK WHO HOSTED 8,200+EPISODES OF JEOPARDY! since returning in 1984 until his death in 2020(the show returned in 84) TOO bad I was going on 3 years old when the original Art Fleming JEOPARDY! went off the air Jan 3 1975 after 2,836 shows.
It starts at 0:15 when Jack Clark/Charlie O' Donnell describes the prizes on Wheel of Fortune from 1983.
Most definitely! The worst part was the contestant elimination at the end of each round!
Yes, the look of the strikes were changed about 3 or 4 weeks into the show's run, and I would expect that that was probably because the word "strike" as it originally appeared wasn't very legible on TV.
With all due respect, wasn't this theme used as a prize bed on the earlier seasons of the Pat Sajak versions of Wheel?
Rohan Padiyar Yes
Merv Griffin schtick.
I believe so
Sorry. When the show moved to CBS (with Bob Goen hosting), the shopping format was scrapped & a newer theme of Changing Keys debut. Too bad KHOU didn't carry that version due to Sally Jesse.
I wonder who's idea was that to drop the Shoppers Format? CBS or Merv Griffin himself?
Plus, what about the nighttime version? Who's idea was it to switch from Shoppers Round to an All Cash Format? Merv Griffin or KingWorld?
@@tnawcwvictoria I hear it was Pat Sajak's ideal.
1:31 Looks like this version may still be completely intact. There were no TV ratings during to 70's
GSN has aired at least one episode of this version, so I think it's from there.
THIS... IS... JEOPARDY!!!
I believe it's already posted here on You Tube
i agree
Not bad, but "Take Ten" was better. Even today, I get that song in my head (along with the Honeymooners' "You're My Greatest Love") whenever I visit New York. :-)
AN ERROR I MUST CORRECT!!--I MADE A MISTAKE!! WHEN I SAID THAT ART FLEMING ON THE ORIGINAL JEOPARDY HOSTED 2,836 SHOWS WHEN IT ENDED IN 1975!!--NO I WASN,T UNTIL AFTER THE FAILED REVIVAL OF JEOPARDY FOR 1 SEASON FROM 1978-79 ENDED THAT WAS WHEN THE LATE ART FLEMING HOSTED 2,386 SHOWS.& FOR 36 YEARS ON THE CURRENT JEOPARDY!! THE LATE ALEX TREBEK HOSTED 8,243 EPISODES FROM 1984 UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 2020!!
1980
Some of the stills, like the Super Jeopardy! one, look like they're from an episode I haven't seen yet (in good quality, too). Does anyone have a link to the episode in question?
+colBoh I believe the stills that you are asking about are from the un-aired pilot show.
This would later be used as a prize cue for Wheel of Fortune during the later seasons of Woolery's version as well at Pat Sajak's run after the player did shopping for the prizes.
I don't know if it was changed at some point during the run, but the picture at 0:42 shows a different-looking "STRIKE" picture in Super Jeopardy!
The pictures from the non-circulating episode may be from the 1978 Pilot, given that the another picture from the same episode at 1:59 gives the date as 1978.
And I really doubt that Merv was out of the country for two years.
At :43, I always think my doorbell's ringing.
Must be infested with Jehovah's Witnesses! 😂😛

Anyone have the opening theme?
It's available elsewhere on YT...just do a search for "January, February, March" and it should come up.
