This is exactly what I need to learn. You explained everything very well. I just Subscribed!

You think visually like I do. I like the way you make an analogy to whatever you'll explaining. It's easy to see that way. Thanks.

Excellent video and in depth explanation of light!

I have a quibble about your highlight. A sphere reflecting the environment (or at least the brightest parts of the environment as far as our eyes can distinguish on a given material) will do so as accurately as a mirrored ball, but just not necessarily as bright, depending on the material of the sphere.
Where you placed your highlight indicates there is a second light source behind your head, because the light from that 2nd source that reaches your eye and makes that specular highlight must bounce off of a precise point on that sphere. (The point where the normal on the sphere exactly bisects the angle between straight-line path from the light to the sphere, and the straight-line path from the spot to your eye.) Thus that highlight must be coming from a light that is above your head or behind you, coming in from above your head by a little bit.
Imagine your eye is detached and rotated around the sphere relative to the light (meaning the light is above a pole, and that pole is what your eye rotates around), and drawn on the paper looking at the sphere. I would draw it at about the 1 o'clock position, above and to the right of the sphere, whereas the light is at the 11 o'clock position. Photons from the light would hit at the 12-noon mark on the sphere and bounce up at your eye. Now rotate that highlight at the 12-noon mark back around the pole until it is on a line between the light and the eye of the observer implied by the drawing. I would place the highlight as a more squashed ellipse shape up much closer to the top, just under the 'i' in Highest.

Jaycephus It was just an example of what can happen with light. That wasn’t part of the drawing.

@@elsagrace3893 XD your profile pic makes it seem like you are saying that on an annoyed tone.

The initial line is more like an estimate than a determined, decisive mark.
It can be altered to suit any changes that might be needed as you establish placement and proportions of your subject.
I find it confusing to talk about 'planes' on a rounded object like a sphere or shoulder. To me, a 'plane' is flat.
    May I make another suggestion?
If I were putting a video together, I would first write out an articulate and clear text that delivers my message.
Then..... I would film myself illustrating that message with the audio of my text running along with the video.

Excellent teaching but I hope the rest in this series has better audio!

ummm can you talk any slower?

Just up the speed of the video

You can reduce the speed of the audio by clicking on the little gear icon at the bottom right of the video screen. It has six little nubby projections and it has a hole in the middle. You will see " playback speed". Click on that and you can choose whatever speed you prefer .75 is slower than Normal.
      .5 is even slower.
