I drop this comment on this day.. it's my first time coming through this story..it will help me on my next year writing exams and also improve me on writing my story book
The baby isn't left on the mountain. Juana carries him in her scarf thing and it is my made bloody from coyotitos shot in head. They toned the movie down from the real book. Guys put the effort in and read the book, it's a really good story.
I didread the book. I stopped at chapter 5. I watched the movie because we have an activity on it tomorrow, we are supposed to read chapters1 to 3 but instead I completed the whole movie.
"Students" wish to go to college but not make the effort of studying, especially reading. Today, English literature, to these people is reading graffiti in bathroom walls, and they pride themselves in the garbage they manage to scrible. The average idiot, oops, the stupid student complaints when too much homework is given to them and yet they wish to be educated. They go to school and now they simply handout diplomas and degrees without dispersing knowledge. Both sides treat education like a drive-thru hamburg joint. You get to eat but end up empty just the same. READ, READ, READ, READ, READ, READ! It is a skill and an art.
i have read the book way back in college and have forgotten some of the details of the story already.... thanks for this! never thought there's such a movie as this...

and we all know who the actor & salesman IS.......I'll give a HINT......His always pitching his book to the crowd like some-one from the past who wrote his book and told you what he was going to do. IF he got the reins of power. This man had a mustache like CHARLIE CHAPLIN 70-85 years ago. BOY DID WE FIND OUT !
@@S.Y.A-2005 I've read the book but i haven't watched the movie, as a comment previously said there are discrepancies between the book and movie plots, and the movie added or removed details from the original story.
Basit Yusufzai No! The lesson here is that happiness does not come from money or possessions! Yes, people are greedy & jealous, but the obsession of the pearl NEVER gave them happiness, only horrible hardship. Your lesson is not what this story is about! Sometimes you need the support of others to help achieve your goals! I hope that others have not agreed to your assessment!
SuzieQ Wonder nah, probably the Basit Yusufzai is right, people are jealous,if they wouldnt have seen the pearl, kino could have just sold it and get medication for coyotito(i havent watched this yet,i read the book,im not sure if coyotito is in this film or not)
I didn't read the book but when he found the pearl I predicted human nature and figured out the rest. Reading the comments confirmed my thoughts. Jealous, envy and greed. I can't watch the rest. After the doc walked in, I said oh hell. here we go.
This is what I told my students when I taught them The Pearl. That's why people nowaday don't scream and let me neighborhood know when they win the lottary.
I just read this short novel ~ John Steinbeck’s writing is awesome! (In fact I just read this 2 weeks ago Sept 2018. Hmm....synchronicity?) I didn’t even know there was a movie! As always, the book gives much more beautiful detail & this film did not follow the story to the fullest. It would be nice to see this re-done on film... I would advise kids or anyone to read it, it’s not very long & you feel much more emotion to the hardships & lessons learned from these people & the people around them! Don’t use this movie as a study guide! There are situations that are added or deleted. There are huge discrepancies that I could list here!
yes!!!!!!!!! the film is not giving more detail ......... the re-do should really take place for the future kids to come and for the to in joy the film just as much as they will in joy the book.........
What a horrible lesson. So sad when the baby dies. The man had a great life and lost it all. When one comes into great riches they must be vigilant to keep a clear perspective.
"It is not good to want a thing too much. It sometimes drives the luck away. You must want it just enough, and you must be very tactful with Gods or the gods." A story about greed, how a pearl which was suppose to help Kino's family had the complete opposite effect.
Really good Movie. I had never seen it but have read all of John Steinbeck's books at one time or another, My favorite Author! I also saw the Grapes of Wrath, of Mice and Men (old and new movie) , as well as Cannery Row. I got to see the Steinbeck House in Salinas Ca. Some years ago, and went all over the Cannery Row, where some of His books are set, in Monterey Ca. , Which once was full of Sardine Canneries, hence the name. One of the most beautiful places I ever had the privilege to be! Tortilla Flat is also a Book well worth reading by Steinbeck. The Pearl is a good choice for School English Curriculum, any number of His other Works could also suffice. John Steinbeck received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1962.
To those who came here because you have an exam: movie often change the story completely different from the book. So you better read the ordinal book so that you got the answer right. I mean, if your exam is on the book.
I grew up in Nova Scotia next to the ferry to PEI. I have visited Lucy Maud Montgomery's old house in PEI a couple of times. When my daughter is a bit older I will read those books to her.
my english vocabulary is poor I read the book and I got a new vocabulary also I try to see the movie to undrestand the story .it was very nice story with a sad ending I cried a lot :(
I read the story in 10th grade or 9th grade at school. I always wanted a little family just like Kino's family. Now, I've just got a simple good-looking husband, a beautiful daughter, and then there's me. I'm so happy
Heads up for students watching this in order to avoid reading the book in class: The book has quite a few differences! So, be careful basing any of your answers to questions after watching this movie. You should look up in-depth book summaries too (especially for quotes). Sincerely, An English teacher who is tired of handing out zeros for students having put incorrect textual evidence in their answers.

You got a D and you sound happy about that. What do you strive to be? Sure, you can just slide by, but how about amounting to something!
Good for you! Literacy is grossly overrated.
Definitely a great example of what paranoia can do to someone. Great book by a great American Author.

A story about greed, how a pearl which was suppose to help Kino's family had the complete opposite effect.
Some of the neighbours of kino have showed a good life to kino's family.
This is the 1947 filmatization. There's also a 2001 version, 100 minutes long, that tells more of Steinbeck's story.
