Funniest part of the whole thing is that despite disliking Lawrence, Kendall genuinely believed in his business and wanted to see it succeed.
This episode does a great job of showing the different things Roman and Kendall bring to the table. Kendall has EXTENSIVE business experience and knows all the lingo, strategies, etc. But can have bad instincts, and often chooses paths that look good on paper, but are ultimately the wrong choice. Hes got all the tools and knows how to use them but has trouble knowing when and what to use then on. Roman has almost zero experience and couldn’t carry out half the shit Kendall does, but he has terrific instincts. Hes great at sussing people out, and almost always knows what the right call is. They actually make a pretty great team when Logan has them in their proper places. Roman instinctually knows that gutting Vaulter is the right call, and Kendall has the experience and proficiency to carry it out unbelievably quickly and effectively. And both of them can be absolutely ruthless just like Logan.
Gutting Vaulter wasn't the right call. Their company ended up being bought by the exactly same kinda of business they didn't invest in: data. It's the 21st century, and Roman just said to his dad that it would be a good idea to shut down their silicon valley company. Why he did? Because of his instincts? No. Because it was Kendall's "baby". Roman is useless.

He's too much of a misogynist to want Shiv to take it seriously but he has virtually no respect for Kendall because, with all the education and the grooming, he doesn't view Kendall as ruthless. Also, I don't think Logan feels good about being "replaced." Just like his kids have flaws, he's a deeply flawed person with his own insecurities. As we have seen, he's really paranoid. He successfully reeled all his kids back in. Last season Shiv was working closely with Gil and Kendall was preparing to help Sandy take the company now Shiv turned down Chief of Staff (which is crazy to me) and Kendall is under Logan's thumb. Even Connor moved back to New York.

I think Roman really doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to business but is a pro at bullshitting and charming people and sounding good, which is basically the opposite of Kendall. Ken actually is smart when it comes to business (he has an MBA from Harvard) but he has terrible soft/people skills and isn't good at actually convincing people of what he's saying, despite it often being correct. They're sort of like two sides of the same coin.
Ken is used to people just being convinced by him because he's Logan's son. He kind of hits a wall when he comes up against people that aren't scared of Logan, because if you're in that league wtf would you care about any of his children.

considering Shiv had no position in the company before, a few years learning how the sausage is made before getting the top position is pretty fair.
