Great video as well. That shifter button never stayed on. Found a part when I removed the console and had no idea what it was to. Turns out it is the shifter clip. I will be able to put it all back together properly now without the shifter button popping off all the time. Thank you!

@kayzer664 Think of it as like a B&M Ratchet shifter you can drop into 1rst (Low) and then bump and will go into 2nd (Second) and then bump it once more and go into drive. It will then prevent you from going into Nuetral or reverse. It is like a slap stick shifter,
    Pete

The hood opening is either within your cable or in the mechanisum itself. All of the above issues are not too tough to fix and do show the importance of keeping moving parts greased properly for smooth operation.

The knob issue I would think is within the stem of the shifter itself. Pop the button off and remove the knob to properly diagnose.

@kayzer664 Yes this is a factory option through GM when you push the auto shifter slightly to the right on most Z28 and Trans Am models the shifter can be used as a "ratchet syle" bump shifter. you can read about this in an article on our club site allgentransams in the tech section 1970-1981 INTERIOR on the "ratchet shifter article"

The key issue is probably either the tumbler in the column or the rod mechanisum within the column. .

@Fbodywarehouse1 Thank you for your very quick answer, i've read the article yet i still have a few questions. From what i've learned the ratchet shifter allows me to "stop missing gears", im not quite sure on what is meant by that, does it mean it's possible to manually set it into 1st gear, shift into 2nd gear, and even into 3rd gear?. The L being 1st gear and the S being 2nd gear, how would i shift into 3rd?. You can answer my question in this video's comment box or mail my youtube account:)

Might be a stupid question but : I have a 1973 Camaro, it's my first car and ive never driven any other car with Automatic transmission; If i click my shifter to the right the little button on top pops up( just up, not out). It looks like this is meant to do that, im not sure though. Does this have any function?
