i like the idea of just adding an ornament kit drop to the cape for what they consider a high delve, torva is tradeable but then blorva exists

    • @TheL0rd0fSpace
      @TheL0rd0fSpace 14 дней назад +3

Yeah but Torva is an armor set.
I like the pattern Jagex has created with capes being largely untradeable and used as flex pieces.
Just because people can "buy" Infernal capes by breaking the rules doesn't actually make them tradeable.
The new bis mage cape should def be untradeable, but I agree with the rest.

    • @TheL0rd0fSpace
      @TheL0rd0fSpace 13 дней назад +1

To address all of Gnome's replies:
      1) The cape could be a guaranteed drop on a certain floor, or be a chance to drop that scales up. Either way, that doesn't necessarily mean the cape should be tradeable.
      2) Precedent is a big deal to players; this game exists on the promise of blending the old with the new. Flat out saying that "precedent doesn't matter" is throwing out the baby with the bath water.
      3) Mage Arena 2 isn't prestigious content. Neither is Vorkath or Fight Caves. But we liked when the better versions of those capes were untradeable, because it added prestige to those capes.
      4) The Inferno drops literally *nothing* besides capes, and you can use those to cash in for pet chance. The Inferno is proof that you don't need capes to be tradeable to give them *some* sort of value to players to get repeatedly. Especially when you mentioned "the cape being big profit will feel good", but you're already getting profit elsewhere. If people have fun running Inferno for "0 profit + untradeable cape", then surely people can have fun running this boss for "lots profit + untradeable cape".
      5) Literally every instance of "Getting a drop that's worth a bunch of money that you can sell" feels good. So does "Grinding a hard boss to get your first untradeable cape drop". One of those is much rarer in-game than the other, and I think that side shouldn't cede ground to the other.
      6) Just because someone bought their cape doesn't make *earned* capes less prestigious. The "people can already buy capes" argument works against literally every untradeable item, and I doubt you'd support Infernal capes being made tradeable, so why should we follow this argument at all?

    • @GnomonkeyRS
      @GnomonkeyRS  13 дней назад +7

I would 100% love if they went back and made kits and other capes tradable. There is a lot of reasons inferno is successful but also not. There's a reason the community who continues to run inferno even after getting their cape is virtually non-existent. It's either wr runners or slayer task, and CAs nobody just wakes up and just pops into Inferno. Especially not the average player. Colosseum has the same issues BUT because you can make money there it's vastly more popular. See the key there, money incentive. Saying people should only care about untradable and prestige, then just play an Ironman. Stop making everyone cater to your feelings about how important or not important a video game item is. Even if everything is tradable, you can still "earn" your cape yourself or get the drop yourself. No one is forcing you to go to the G.E and buy the new cape. The prestige in this game is not capes, it's kits like fang kit (less so now with boosting), Blorva, Zuk helm, etc.

I would prefer each thrall having a different type of attack. I theoried mage never misses (can hit through any prayer for example), the melee has an extra max hit (0-4) to make up for the melee distance, and the range has infinite (or longer) range, to hit enemies a thrall generally couldn't.

19:30 the issue is the ma2 cape is not prestige while we think it's cool that inferno and quiver are. Nobody thinks all 3 capes we have right now are prestige we just want it to be. The cape slot feels like the achievement slot, its not just pvm. Diary cape, 99 capes, quest cape, lms capes, raid kc capes, none are tradeable. I agree with this boss needing a farmable drop, i would just have it be ranger boots so we get a non-clue way of obtaining pvm upgrades. I think a quite good solution to the Eldritch Veil Untradeable Vs Tradeable is to keep the cape tradable but only allow it to be equipped if the person has completed Level 8 of the Delve. This way it still remains a good drop to get, it should still have a large market for selling it and also retain some level of prestige that I feel BIS capes should have.

Different effects for each thrall type would be best imo, allows for a lot of different and interesting concepts (and maybe even different effects in the future with a different consumable). Something like a pseudo execute effect would be cool, increased (maybe doubled?) damage below 10% HP would be interesting, we dont really have any execute effects in the game atm, and either this or a spec weapon would be appropriate I think. To combo with this, you could have a thrall doing a mini ruby bolt proc, something like 1% of bosses remaining health capped at 10, something like that would be interesting. I think the big thing would be to let thralls combo off each other, having different thralls be optimal for different parts of a fight would be really interesting, and add depth to the arceuus spellbook/thralls in general, as currently its kinda just summoning mage thrall almost always.

18:14 i think your pretty right on this that if they want an endless system that scales drops then it should be be all tradable stuff, but i also agree that its kind of lame that the trade off here is the mage cape is tradable/weaker as a result (i'm pretty sure why they don't want it to be a huge upgrade over ma2 cape is because it is tradable, its only suppose to be another item/tiny upgrade/for profit filler item).
maybe the caves need a different reward then a mage cape which is tradable and there should be another more inferno/colosseum type content that gives a better non tradable mage cape upgrade
maybe what alot of people are really saying here is they want a mage cape version of inferno/colesseum as people keep making these comparisons, while jagex is just trying to make this another drop which ppl will buy if they havn't done ma2 or for situations where they dont need prayer, will be a "niche" upgrade along with the demon weapon, while the boots are the major profit

To be fair, there's always been some sense of accomplishment with capes in rs as far back as classic. Classic had blue capes locked to the Champion's Guild shop NPC, making them prestigious, then the Cape of Legends came out which was untradeable and quest locked (Required every quest on release), then the Fire Cape was released in RS2 which was untradeable and from a boss, then they took it a step further with Infernal Cape which came from an even harder encounter in OSRS. They followed this formula with the quiver, and now people are reasonably expecting the Mage Cape to follow the trend.

When casting this version of the thrall, it uses the new consumable, and no prayer points.

An interesting change to thralls would be able to add the ability for them to take the aggro of whatever you're targeting and give them a small amount of HP (whilst avoiding it turning into summoning lite). You wouldn't want this to be active all the time, so maybe you can click on the consumable in your gear/inventory and the thrall then grabs aggro.

How about instead of a mage cape upgrade, save that for later content similar to inferno/colosseum so that people can have their “prestigious cape achievement” idea (which I’m in the same boat for) and just make it an upgrade to the occult instead?
That way it can still be tradable and profit and we can get a mage arena 3 untradable cape upgrade later down the line.
I understand that A LOT of people have bought their capes, but for those who haven’t it keeps the prestigious aspect. The idea also to make it so you have to complete a delve 8 to equip the thing just keeps the shady market of buying capes a thing, and for those who buy it off the GE and can’t do it will still just buy the service. Making it an amulet upgrade just immediately makes both sides happy.

Maybe thralls could get a spec as the upgrade. But I'd think it should be automatic (still having the summon and forget effect) and maybe it would only have 1 or 2 spec total depending on CAs/time alive. Then the different thralls could have different special effects, though mostly would be nice that the spec would just be a bigger max hit for that one hit. Maybe specs could be a toned down ancient godsword for heals, toned down saradomin godsword for prays, and toned down armadyl godsword for dps. Maybe you could just specify which thralls have which spec. Could also maybe add more different effects? Add even more drops to the boss with various specs, bgs, zgs, dds, etc. that you could swap out! Could bring out a variety of options and use cases for the thralls!
Proabably an unpopular opinion, but I would like for jagex to add a hybrid ring to the delve as well like the hybrid boots. Just combine Bellator(slash bonus)/Magus/Ultor/Venator/Wildy crush & stab rings. I know it seems insane, but honestly I don't think it would be. Other rings would still also be used such as lightbearer(which I would argue could be combined with other utility rings like ring of endurance or something). And yes, I'm a fan of upgradescape haha, I think that is the way to go.

I think you nailed it on the head with the "status item" thing. Everyone has in their heads the it has to be a status item because of inferno and colo when clearly it's designed as a relatively marginal upgrade from the mage arena capes which have been bis for years. They can release a true status mage cape at some point in the future if they want, it doesn't need to go from 10 year old ez to obtain wildy capes to hella prestige status equivalent to colo and inferno.

I just genuinely think touching thralls further is a mistake and the most they should do is remove the need for Book of the Dead. I’m still not a fan of it personally, but if you MUST do something, that alone is a huge buff on its own without risking thralls becoming even more oppressive than they already are. I don’t trust the community to come up with better ideas for Jagex that won’t just be a strict DPS increase and very little else (much like how Ruinous Powers was). Especially when Redditors are out here malding that the Hybrid boots are underwhelming as fuck when they’re literally going to be BIS basically everywhere and completely remove the need to ever bring a boot switch ever again.

Haven’t finished the video yet but an idea that popped into my head; what about the currency augments each thrall type? Melee increase dmg from 1-3 to 1-6, ranged increase atk rate (like 2 tick?), mage… I’m not sure. As is I pretty much only summon a mage thrall bc it does full dmg at corp and is a ranged thrall as opposed to a melee thrall that has to be next to the target… maybe the mage thrall has unlimited range and could reach any mob targeted from any range

my thrall idea. same place to grind for the "thrall ammo" have there be a drop for an item that allows you to stack the ammo with range ammo/radas and reworks your thralls while its in your inventory/equipped which removes the cast delay, halves the prayer cost and allows you to summon one additional thrall. might be too strong but it can be tweaked.

  • @Some_Awe

for the thrall i like giving each thrall a typeless effect, with a system where you can direct their aggro, giving the melee thrall a chain hook that drags itself to the target dealing min 1 damage when it does that, for the cape and the shadow issue i like, giving the shadow breakpoints where you have to hit a certain % magic damage on your items to cap out the shadow and anything else stops scaling it allows you to add a bigger %, i love negative prayer bonuses so much thematically, give it defense back tho. xdd, editing comment along with the vid, i like having the cape as a tradeable, maybe the status can be a transmog on top of it for reaching the full enrage telos equivalent but mage in general could use some other pinnacle content to serve as a true status symbol, not delving, besides nothing looks sexier than dizanas max cape anyway

The content can continue in perpetuity but thinking even for combat achievements and/or hiscores, there will be a "completion" milestone where the BIS cape could be a guaranteed drop from round completion.
Think the better solve is a cape drop from round 1 completion that gets better the further you get through the waves. Maybe make it interesting by having players choose which upgrades they want (a masteries path if you will), so maybe you have to take -2 prayer bonus if you want the +1% magic damage early but you'll need to complete another wave to remove the -2 prayer

14:30 Now we're in a real bind over this issue, They backed themselves into a corner with making the shadow the most commonly dropped mega, and being extremely broken.
The only reason the shadow is maintaining one bill plus is because it's the most broken, powerful item in the game. If they reduce the effectiveness of the shadow in the wrong way it's going to tank in price.
This seems very challenging to approach, and balance to me, atleast from this distance.

Just a couple ideas off the top of my head for the thralls.
Range thrall - every 5th or 10th hit it does a quick barrage of arrows, if its single target maybe it hits that target with 5 arrows, if its aoe maybe it hits everything in a 3x3
Mage thrall - each cast it does powers up its next cast. the second hit can hit 1 damage higher, the 3rd hits 1 higher than the second hit and so on until it resets at 5 hits.
Melee thrall i cant think of anything off the top of my head but will reply with an idea if i think of one

I don't know if this has been said, but why not allow variants based on the god capes? keep the bonuses at base as provided and change to something like below.
Like used with sara cape will give high def and moderate prayer
used with zammy would give a glass cannon dps boost but like minus 10 or 15 prayer bonus
used with guthic to giver big prayer bonus and boosts that split attack and defence bonuses like the god book.
Obviously this is not the best stat sets, but it would keep the prices high as every account could probably use each with potential to expand to the other gods and with good negatives, each one would be useable in different places (Zammy-dps, guthix-barrage slayer, sara-wildy tanking/1st inferno cape)

Best thing I was able to think of for thralls is giving a benefit if you attack on the same tick as the thrall. It's a pure buff to everywhere you bring thralls already, doesn't introduce thralls to anywhere new. Something along the lines of "After attacking with your thrall X times, you get a faster next attack/thrall attacks faster for y seconds/mini venge effect".
Not sure if it becomes something you can purposefully play around though, because unless the buff is broken you wouldn't be delaying your own attacks just for some minor thrall buff.

I wouldn't mind a two-tiered upgrade where the first is a one-time thrall buff unlock, and the second could be the consumable ammo to buff them further. Downside is you're splitting what buff they're receiving in two, making each half seem weaker. But the upside is mains still get a consumable sink DPS / PB mechanic and irons still get to participate without wanting to hang themselves every night.

    • @tjtomax

    • @datboi_gee

@tjtomax I think thralls have a particular issue in that they feel far less potent than they actually are, which matters way more than you might think. Personally I would prefer mechanical differences than a raw damage increase, but if Jagex is 100% dead-set on linking them to some sort of consumable I wouldn't hate the idea of finding a way to split that. Depends on rates though.

So ppl say they want effects? I think this is a good idea, keep thralls as is, but add the effects take place when thrall despawns, so for example when the mage thrall timer is out it will become a magic bomb with with the damage from 0- to how much it dpsed the target, for range thralls, same thing but it becomes 3 bolts that each hit will burn the target, and melee one when it despawns it can add a 1 min long overload lvl boost.

Personally, I believe that there should be a lot more tribrid items. It would open the realm for more efficient theatre runs (maging as mdps would actually become relevant), more technology deployed throughout, would allow lower level players to bring more gear without sacrificing supplies, and higher level players to replace new brew space with more tech such as dinhs or even rune throw axes for range AoE, or even if you think of chambers max efficiency - giving you literally more than 0 inventory spaces to do something. I shouldn’t have to take off or put on a 9 way during a theatre run to even reasonably 1-shot a crab. While some players would say you don’t need technically need this inventory space and that it’s troll, I firmly believe it would be beneficial to the high end community as well as the low end community.

Idea for thrall. It could highlight at semi random intervals for a couple ticks and clicking on it when it's highlighted doubled the damage of it's next attack or guaranteed a max hit on that attack. Feels simple to slot into the game and a bit more complex in terms of APM. Master and GM's would use less of the currency as it'll highlight more often due to longer duration no need to unsummon or dismiss.

Good video. I like the idea of the new bis mage cape getting some kind of cosmetic kit after x amount of delve 8+ extensions. I think that's the solution to people wanting a prestigious version of that cape.
As for the boots, I do think they're underpowered for how long we've waited for the boot combination. They should at least have an extra strength and mage point over prims and eternals.
For thralls, I want the upgrade to them to be more advantageous towards Master/GM somehow. For example, at base level they gain 1 extra damage, so their damage goes from 1-3 to 1-4, and then every 10 seconds they're out, the buffed version does one big hit that's 4-7. Done zero calcs so that's probably wildly OP, but just a thought. This whole placement thing is nonsense and would be too situational to be effective, and not fun to learn.
Side note, it would be cool if similar to Ralos, these items could be charged with sunfire for extra effects. For pvp, the treads could be given a spike effect when charged with sunfire, when a player steps under a player wearing charged treads, they take 1 damage every couple ticks. (preventing stand under logouts) and giving a direct counter to that tactic, which currently does not have any counters.
The cape could have it's defence stats restored when charged with sunfire (odd that they're lost when combined with the ma2 cape, which has them) and also remove the -2 to prayer, and buff the mage % by 1.

I said this in the last vid but maybe you can give you input on this:
It seems like they want to do it in a way where skill is rewarded rather than a flat upgrade to dps. So to keep in line with it, maybe it should be something along the lines of a random timing indicator for u to resummon the thrall to deal 2x damage for the next 15/30s.
This way, it rewards gameplay with more dps upon hitting the right timing while also punishing players (with loss prayer + used consumables) when failing to do the mechanic. However, I can see issues with this idea clashing with thrall summon cooldown so maybe they can reduce thrall cooldown to maybe 20s or something

What if the thrall upgrade gives thralls a stacking debuff which is capped at a certain amount that reduces the enemy's defence of that thralls combat style by a flat amount or % whatever idea that can be thought of. For example, most of the time an elder maul/dragon warhammer is brought to reduce melee defence in raids and in raids youre using all styles most of the time depending on the boss youre facing. When fighting olm's head and you summon a range thrall, itll reduce the range defence and it'll last as long as the thrall is doing damage. Everybody's thrall reduces the defence but it's capped at a certain number. This gives them the opportunity to still be used in places where they already are brought, simple but effective and easy to understand. The damage they do is still 0-3 though imo.

I don't like the idea of the ammo slot thrall thing because we already use the ammo slots and it's already a tight slot even post-Quiver. Anywhere you're not using a Quiver you're almost always going to want either a Rada's blessing, a specific God blessing, or Ghommal's lucky penny, and even at places you do use a Quiver, you're using at least one type of actual ammo, sometimes two, or again the blessing or penny. Much rather see it be an upgrade to the book and then the book needs to be charged. I'd be fine with that.

  • @serealfurst
    @serealfurst 14 дней назад

I hope they do make the Mage Cape tradeable because then you have a sliding scale between the type of content that the BIS capes come from. Inferno is a non tradeable guaranteed drop that comes from content that only gives non-tradeable drops. Quiver is a non tradeable guaranteed drop but you get a chance to get some tradeable loot along the way to that drop. Then the new mage cape would be a non-guaranteed Tradeable drop that comes from content that is centered around its drops being tradeable. Jagex likes there to be diversity in their content, they didn't design all 3 raids to be the same and I think that was for the best. Parallel design is cool to some extent but it gets boring when everything feels samey. Plus making the cape tradeable fixes the cape buying issue for Jagex and for them I'm sure thats a huge selling point.

Just make them run! Actually works to offset the biggest downside of zombie thrall

Another absolute banger from the goat himself. Probably the most you've ever cooked tbh. Shadow is broken as fuck, really all of toa rewards are broken tbh. Thrall thing is just always gonna be weird they need to do a lot of work to have it in a good spot. I'm fine with them changing the cape upgrade to something else, but if it comes from here it should be tradeable. Theres no final boss or anything, you're killing the same boss at a higher level. Clearing it as a requirement to complete it is the perfect solution if people HAVE to have it be an achievement thing. Ageist is just too niche tbh, scrap it 2 bis uniques and consumables are plenty of rewards. Also totally right on boots they're great, you're saving at least 1 inv space most content and the new BP max hit with the range strength is great.

make the shadow scale more along with your (base) magic level and much less with your gear, so that a player with 99 mage and max mage gear gets the same damage and accuracy we currently have but benefits less from increased magic damage gear added in the future such as the new MA2 cape upgrade while a lower level setup, say 78 with a trident benefits more
if you are worried about a player becoming too powerful too quickly from a spooned shadow or being on a shadow rebuild and only needing the 99 magic and no gear you could make it so that accuracy is separately based on gear but damage is based on magic level or any other manner of change to make the shadow just as powerful but allowing more room for stronger equipment otherwise

So how about the cape to be tradeable, AND still be useable like a firecape for a pet roll. This does allow creditcard warriors to buy a pet but the item would retain it's value.
Adding some more magic defense, or just accuracy could work, or add some weird lore about it not boosting dessert magic. problem solved for shadow's balance issues.
Melee thrall can grant dmg reduction from the direct it's "warding" you.
Range thrall can be shot at to allow it to hit with x of your stats,
Mage thrall can be casted upon with spells to boost output or enhance it's dmg type to elemental bonus. (fertile soil = earth, vile vigour = air, humidify water etc. Also increase spellbook swap utility could be fun

Idea for thrall upgrade: target-able thrall specials. Moka consumable now gives thralls a special attack that is different per thrall.
Zombie special attack: the zombie thrall now has a chance you use temporal tear, a special attack in where a temporal tear spawns 2-3 tiles away from the target for a 1-2t window that gives you a damage boost (only applicable for caster) for one attack.
Skeleton special attack: The skeleton switches to a ballista but needs help loading it to fire a javelin at a target. Click and Run up to the skeleton to load the javelin for a powerful thrall attack.
Ghost special attack: The ghost begins channeling a powerful spell but needs help. Three target-able (and 0 attack delay causing) nodes spawn around the ghost. Once all have been hit, the spell will launch dealing massive damage.
