Many thanks for the video. I've just replaced the rear diff front bush. To get the old one out and the new one in I just removed the centre bolt from the offside rear bush (which has better access) and that gave me enough play to push the diff sufficiently up and to the side.
I had mine done for the mot,i thought it was the centre carrier bearings but nope it was the diff bushes. New one's do make a big improvement on reducing the clanking
Yep they sure do. If left for too long, or if to launch a bit hard it can damage the housing on the differential as well. Glad you enjoyed the video, watch for more soon 😀
What size bar extension would you recommend to do the rear bush nuts? I am in France working on my mothers freelander sport one and like your car has a perished rear front diff bush. Great video really helpful. I am dreading doing this job, but your vid has given me the confidence I need to have a go. Keep up the great work.
I find it depends on the size and length of the socket you are using as well as the wratchet you are using, as well as is it a wobble extension or if you are using a universal joint. You are best to have several different lengths and try a couple. In my video you can get a pritty good idea what might work, as it worked for me. But unless you have the same tools I am using it will vary for you. Thanks for watching and best of luck on your project.
Thanks for the comment👍. Honestly for the fact was doing this on jack stands on my back it was not that hard, and did not take that long. I found there was plenty of room without having to mess around undoing the rear sub frame as well. If I was working on a lift it would have been even easier and quicker. Besides if the sub frame does not go back EXACTLY where it was and it does not take much movement then that would throw off the rear geometry. It would then need a four wheel alignment, this saves time and money in the long run doing it this way in my opinion. Thanks for watching 👍
My osr bush is worn and allowing movement. The freelander 1 04 plate has developed a vibration & excessive noise at speeds above 30/40 mph. Also a squeek when setting off that stops at higher speed. Is this the culprit as my garage suggests or could it be the CV/Prop joints that have gone bad? ....also developed a fluid lead around the rear differential.
Honestly that is something I would have to see and diagnose in person. The fact you have one bushing that might be worn could possibly cause a vibration. But honestly you are best to have a competent mechanic take a loom and diagnose these problems mate. I can't really give you an answer over the Internet on a comments section. CV joints could also cause noise if they are missing the grease in the joint and are worn or seized. Good luck with your FL1 and thanks for watching mate 👍
Thinking, the prop support bearings could also be a cause of the vibration and noise. Just remember to inform your insurance if you plan on running the vehicle in 2wd. It is seen as a modification and it could cause an issue if you ever need to claim on insurance. Also I find the wheel hop and lack of traction very annoying with the prop missing. I personally love the sure footed feeling of the vehicle and the added safety and grip when in the wet. But that is just me with my 1.8k series and driving style. Hope it all works out for you mate 😁

Putting the front bush mount on and off all you need to do drop the rear sub frame down a bit all so for the back more quicker

Getting shut of the prop is a choice I suppose. Cheers for the speedy reply and advice buddy. Appreciated 👌

Just to confirm, you left the driveshafts in ,just wiggled the diff to allow bearing out and back In?
Yes if you mean to remove and install the differential support bushings. Yes, I left the axle shafts and rear drive shaft installed.
