- Watch a full performance of "Sila: The Breath of the World" by 2014 Pulitzer Prize winner John Luther Adams, which premiered at Lincoln Center July 25, 2014. The work was commissioned by Lincoln Center Out of Doors and Mostly Mozart Festival.
Caught the Midwest Premiere 9/26/2015 on the south lawn of the Ryan Center, Northwestern U. performance by 80 Beinen Music School students, conducted by Nally, Bolter and Perkins. Lake Michigan to the east and Chicago to the south. I dug it.
Performed in Atlanta yesterday 2017-04-08 at Woodruff park downtown. Terrific I think.
Performing this on Saturday. Should be very interesting, with the mountains of Montana in the background and the breezes blowing!

I can imagine the real JA howling in laughter !
Doubtless all here are top flight musicians... but... I found the end product unintelligible and an effort to listen to...
kudzu49 you know, I love this piece. But I'll give you credit for stating your opinion without being crude and insulting.
Of course, an opinion is an opinion; but I find this piece to be a beautiful kaleidoscope-like analysis of tones, timbres, and resonances. It doesn't have the drama of Beethoven or the movement of a Debussy piece, but it has its own unique beauty: like watching a time lapse of the sky. Since it doesn't really resolve, cadence, or tell a story the way we're used to, I can see how you might find it boring or hard to listen to. I hope my comment can give you a new perspective, but if even then you find it boring, obviously that's OK :)
THIS is more a performance art piece than "music"... I hope they were wearing galoshes.
