I love Kathy a lot more after the Trump controversy. She became more interesting after all that shit. I remember getting tickets for Carnegie Hall and literally any time I clicked there were less and less seats. I was so lucky to be able to get the tickets that I did. I honestly don't understand why big streaming services won't pick up this special! Not only is she a great comedian, but her story is beyond compelling. Her special would be such a business opportunity for any streaming service out there who's not afraid of the Trump train!

Even Stephen Colbert acted like Griffin was a "problem" to be handled with kid gloves when he interviewed her recently. He continued to act like Griffin had done something horrible and acted somber toward her the whole time, like he was trying not to act like he really liked her. Similar things happened to Janeane Garofalo when she spoke out against the 2003 US attack on Iraq, but this is even more extreme. Why do Americans these days just accept coordinate waves of death threats from right-wingers all the time? It became the norm during the 1990s when right-wing media spread nation-wide following Reagan's 1987 cancellation of the media Fairness Doctrine. Why don't Americans work on stopping it? They just accept it, and right-wingers actually do kill and injure people in the midst of all this. Also, Griffin should read about what Paul Robeson went through during the 1950s, if she hasn't already.
We are working on stopping it. The unfortunate thing is it's been going on a long, long time and to many people were complacent and accepting of the status quo for decades that it took a rising anger from younger generations, or those being screwed over previously, to wake up and look around and realize our democracy is in shambles and the media shares a lot of the blame. The "liberal" media like CNN and MSNBC are almost to blame as much as Fox News because they pay the same lunatics to come on all the time because they draw viewers and corporate sponsors, the same sponsoring our government, like that. The established corporate sponsored media perpetrates the myth that the vileness is equal and democrats do the exact same things as republicans, which isn't true or even close to true, all so they don't make the sensitive republican viewers mad. Where the republicans are better than the democrats is strength in their unity. You won't get just one person coming at you, you will be bombarded on all sides from directions you don't even expect from these angry, unhinged alt-right people. The democrats also lost the higher ground when they began taking big donor money and stopped representing working class people. It's a tough situation, it took forever to get this bad, and the clean up isn't going to be quick or painless. Restoring the Media Fairness Doctrine and updating it for the internet age would be a good start.
I think with Colbert it was more not wanting to look like he was going easy on her. Almost in the same way that Anderson didn't want to go easy on her. Colbert is a very funny man and an incredible sketch comedian, but he's not a standup or at least hasn't been for a very long time. I would describe him more as an actor in the vein of Steve Carell (They both went to Second City at the same time). I believe in his mind, he recognized that what Kathy did offended people who remembered the assassination of President Kennedy and was on the border of almost inciting violence against the President. Again, that's an opinion. The media attack on her was very real, and she, unfortunately, became the first scapegoat in the Trump administration and they were quick to make an example of her. I do believe what some people talked about going away for at least a year or two. It took Joan Rivers 3 years after her career breakdown to land her talk show.

The thing about Kathy Griffin is that on every talk show she comes in with a script, and it’s hard for the host to maintain control of the interview, or even get a word in edgewise. I’m a fan of hers, and it is great to see her rise from the ashes!

I've always enjoyed Kathy's humor and appreciate that she turned her PR disaster around and proved all those who said she wouldn't work again wrong.
