- 🇱🇰 KANDY, SRI LANKA - I left Hikkaduwa and took a bus back to Kandy. I visited the Buddhist Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa). The temple is a world-renowned place of worship, where the left Canine tooth of Gautama Buddha is enshrined. It was named as a world heritage by UNESCO in 1988. At the end of the day I will have dinner in a lovely restaurant in Kandy.

I would like to add something about lighting oil lamps. The real meaning of lighting is thinking about the nature of the life. How the lighting oil lamp burning finish gradually, the life is also will be finish someday. When the lamp has everything that help to produce light, it will light immediate surrounding. The human life is also same. when we have everything that help to survive, the life runs normally. But our life is going towards death step by step. I hope this may be help you to get some idea.

The thing the guy on the bus was chewing is called "paan" in India and Pakistan. I don't know if it's called the same in Sri Lanka.

🕯 oil lamp you see is life. It starts with a small intensity grows to a maximum level and dies off.
Flowers 🌸 are beautiful, good smell, fragile just like most of the beautiful things around us. But flowers dry off, lose the fragrance, beauty and colour. Just like that everything around us which binds or attach our minds to lose beauty, persona and eventually dies off. Nothing is eternal.
True meaning behind these rituals are to understand life. Enjoy it, do not get addicted to anything. Because world we see outside is the world inside our mind. 😊
Buddhism is understanding , that’s what Lord Buddha said, rationalise it, understand it, if it doesn’t make any sense, don’t do it. Sadly most of the Buddhist don’t know the true philosophy behind it

Betel nut chewing is a practice that is done by the people of few Asian countries like Srilanaka and India, Pakistan. They get betel leaves, areca nuts and tobacco, lime powder or dust and put all together and chew until they feel enough and throws it away. Something causes oral cancers . Something I hate .
I think it can give similar effects as a light drug, that’s why I saw many in Myanmar chewing this continually

Dear Brother, I do respect your point of view. Gautama The Buddha (The Enlightened) is called by many names because of deep respect for his achievements. However, In Buddhism, the Buddha is not considered as a god in any way. The historical Gautama was not a Buddha until after his enlightenment, and I believe he should not be revered as a god. In my humble opinion, what is important is his teachings to lead all sentient beings to liberation, to be free of sufferings. Calling him The Buddha, the Awakened One, is respectful too 🙏🏽

Buddah was lived sometime after Jesus was born, singhala Mahavamsam written only 1000 years old semifiction full fake spinning. It was written pali/ fercy, not even written singhala. Buddah was born as hindu in the begar .human,monk he had failure in life, sat under the tree, medetated , followed some part of hindusiam, panchaseelam part of hindusiam buddisham wasn't religion during his life time. There was a reason buddisham disappeared from India.
