Watching this video made me realize that life is a constant cycle of cause and effect, where our actions have far-reaching consequences that extend beyond our individual lifetimes. It's not just about accumulating good karma, but understanding the nature of our existence and the interconnectedness of all beings. Meditation provides a path towards self-awareness and liberation from the cycle of rebirth. Thank you, Chief Monk, for sharing your wisdom and guiding us towards a deeper understanding of the human experience.

Thank you very much for showing one of the most beautiful places I have visited as a child that is the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya to the world. This video brought back nostalgic memories of my childhood. Also I being a non Buddhist would like to thank the Head priest of the temple for explaining Buddhism so well in a nutshell.

It is great that a foreigner visits Sri Lanka and learn Buddhism from one of the Scholar Monk in this country. The Monk is an academic in an University and a Professor but when the foreigner ask about him he said I am Mahinda. He could have easily said I am a Professor in a University. I highly appreciate his simpleness. I wish her journey in Sri Lanka ends up with many success.

Lord Budda told us always thiink about your death.when you continiulessly think about your own death you will feel how late you're. Sansaraya is so Dangerous lord Budda explained,if you collected the tiears,up to this life, when your this life time Mother pssing away it is more than the four oceans of water, also same as your this life father..brother, sister,...That much times we have met them in our sansara. Also the amot of blood dropped to the ground when slaughterd you, when you born as chikens pigs, cows,.. More than the four ocens of water. As lord buddha to have a human life it is a hard.. One time Buddha took a very little bit sand from the ground and kept it in his thump nail, asked from the monks how can you compare this bit of sand to the sand in this hole word, then they said load budda we can not cmpare that much little bit on your thunp.then load budda explane if you compare the sand in this world to the people of the world, he showed the amount of the sand on his thumb nail and said this much of people in this world will born as gods or as human after the deth.all thw others will born in 4 hells, (128 hells, animal word, spirits, deep sea creatures,)so We do not know what bad karmas wehave done in our sansara... (Past lifes)if we missed this opportunity we do not know when we can get a human life... Gauthama buddha teachings will only be here in this earth for another less than 2400 years.2600 has gone. If we falls in to one of 4 hells, billioans of years you will suffer.. Once you come back you will never ever will heard the name of Budda. I'm a good practioner..the protection you get from Dharma you cannot beleave.you have to read thripitaka (2500anewasary one) I listen to ven kotmale Kumara kassapa thero, sermons so nice but Its in sinhala the people trying to translate that to english, but it does not explain the real gravity or the meaning. The 4 nobel truth, 8 path to Nirvana... So nice its hard.. But you can do it.. Its all about your mind. You have to lock down your mind. As per the lord Budda once you forcus your mind to the reality of this world, the reality of the picture, taste, smell, hearing, touch, mind..You will realize what a fake world we are in.each and everything you have created in your mind.if not every peron in this world should feel the same thing same way. How much bad karmas we create in last, anger, foolishness, without knowing. I'm from Kandy srilanka, but now in us, I witness every day this people running, running behind the comfort, last, sex, alcohol, but what they can achieve at the end, sadness . Much as you love... That much you will be sad at the end. You can go towards Nirvana but only if you try.lord budda has showed the path... When you go towards Nirwana take your loved ones too... Every thought is a karma... It is your duty to take them also.thank you for your kindness. Namo Buddaya. 🙏

She said " When I embraced Buddhism my life changed. I came to understand that any achievement stems from inner change and only you have the power to realize and change,” she told Harvard Business Review. “The more I studied Buddhist principles, the deeper I dug within myself and cleaned up whatever attitudes or habits were standing in my way.”

Ven. Prof. Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkhita Thero (Department of Sanskrit and Eastern Studies of the University of Kalaniya, Sri Lanka) is a highly educated monk in Sri Lanka.
Some political opponents of the previous government tried to vindicate and label the monk due to one incident near the election in 2019. According to historical accounts, the area belonged to Naga (Cobra) tribes in Sri Lanka. During the time of Buddha, Sri Lanka mainly had 4 tribes: Yaksha, Naga, Raksha and Dewa. Due to this reason, there are folk stories related to nagas (cobras) in this area. By 2019, there was one incident where someone said he had found some cobras from the Kalani River, relating it to historical folk stories. Thus, the media also took this news and things were exaggerated. The media aired a voice clip from the venerable monk about the incident. The venerable monk just informed this incident the media as he heard it.
He did not have any political ambitions or ulterior motives to bring any political party to power. But people visited the place as the news about the appearance of cobras from the river was spread around the country. The venerable monk never advocated any political party. He treats everyone who visits the temple equally whether they are politicians, political opponents of one another or just laymen. It is sad people with extreme political polarization tried to tarnish the name of the monk by politicizing the incident. Appearing of cobras or any other snakes from a river or anywhere else in the country is quite normal because Sri Lanka is a high biodiversity country. It is quite possible these snakes may be drifted by the river due to flood situations. The only issue is some people with vested interests try to connect this incident with historical folk stories and try to get a political advantage.
The ruling party at that time may have tried to portray it as a miracle as in the ancient folk stories and political opponents tried to use it to tarnish the image of the venerable monk. But the Ven. Prof. Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkhita Thero did not utter a single word supporting, recommending, or advocating any candidate of the presidential campaign based on this incident. He just informed them about the incident in the media as it was said to him by the person who found these snakes.

The chief monk's explanation was very helpful to get some idea on Buddhism.
Humans are the only animals who can do merits. Gods can not do merits. They apear in the heaven because of the merits that they have done in the early life. After those merits are over they comeback to another life, may be they will apear in the hell. That's why we humans must try to achieve Nirvana to stop this cycle. If we apear in the hell or born as another animal it is really hard to get a human life again and achieve Nirvana. So do not be late try to get a start to achive Nirvana.

But you know, there's a lot of problems to solve.... Because, as this monk explained about the life cycle, there's kind of thing we usually do not notice. That is about the life cycle explaining... Someone can ask ''how does it happen?'' or '' In 1900s there only about 750 million people, now its over 8 billion and where these people come to the earth?'' And for me that's a question too... Did they come from heaven or hell because of losing power? Or it's a rebirth thing? Then how it happened? Is there a rebirth of an earth, because there were 27 buddhas before Gautam buddha.... Anyway, for me there's a lot of problems on Buddhism because of the catholic view! What's your opinion as an Italian??🤔🤔🤔🤔

@@toohappytobehomesick I don't know if you have time, or if they still do this, but if you can get to an "all night chanting" event at one of the temples, it's worth a visit - just for your own personal experience. Perhaps you could ask someone at the temple or at the tourist board if they do one. They do it at some temples occasionally (not sure how often) and it consists of several monks chanting sutras/mantras continuously from late evening through the early hours of the morning until 5am or 6am. A group of around 4-5 monks take it in turns to chant for a few hours at a time at the head of the temple. People can sit inside the temple for as long or as you want. They serve coffee and food as well I believe. There are cushions so if you're sleepy, you can sleep. You see families with kids there as well, so it's completely safe. Listening to the chanting by the monks is supposed to be very healing (the ancient words of the sutras/mantras have power, while the frequencies of recital are healing). I attended a Sri Lankan all-night chanting event at a temple near KL Malaysia (of all places) a long time ago. Some or all of the monks flew in from SL for the event, organized by the temple. I went with friends out of curiosity. The priest also sprinkles people with 'holy water' mid way through using a branch. Despite having little to no sleep that night, I left feeling energised in a calm way. It was a strange feeling of calm alertness. I put this down to the frequency of the chanting that evokes some sort of meditative brain state. I had no food or coffee at the event, rested for around 30 mins and was awake for most of it. Anyway, Eli, if you get a chance to do this (whether filmed or not) try to do it as it's a bit of a unique experience. There are also recordings of the chanting you may be able to get, but better live as I think the collective of people helps to amplify the positive experience!
