    I just want to clarify.. I am not a lactation consultant! All of this information is from personal experience. Yes, having an over supply can cause mastitis, however I never got it. I wanted an oversupply so I could pump and store it in my freezer for when I went back to work. If you have an oversupply and are trying to get it back to normal, I would suggest slowly decreasing how often you pump. Don't decrease an extreme amount because that will cause mastitis, but if you gradually decrease it'll tell your body it doesn't need to produce so much milk. 😊

      Hi! You just rub the oil mix on your boobs between pumping? Please clarify and maybe your oil recipe too? Thanks so much!

      Yes having an oversupply can be a blessing especially if you want to donate...but I can relate because I actually slept through the night last night by accident and I had to literally massage my breasts very firmly to release the milk...so painful...never again!

      Hi Abby, I got advised by midwife to only breastfeed for first 6 weeks. Don't think I got all the milk out as I should have. Baby is now 7 weeks and I am struggling to get 3 Oz out of both breasts. Is it too late. Can it still be increased? Want to really build a supply? Looking forward to your response.

    • @AbbyLindquist
      @AbbyLindquist  3 года назад +5

      It definitely can be increased! Just continue to put baby on the breast and you can even pump when baby is done nursing to tell your body it needs to produce more milk! 🙂 Best of luck to you!

    I did this with my first and will absolutely not be doing this with my second. I was an overly exhausted new mom trying to do the best for baby. While this information is absolutely accurate (in my opinion) it is not for everyone. Pumping after feeds every two hours and not sleeping almost landed me in a severe depression and over exhaustion. Your baby is only as healthy as the mother you are. Do what’s best for you.

      Same! My sleep is extremely important to me, without it I will be depressed...I pump 5 times a day, every 3hrs and I’m still able to produce 45-50oz a day of milk...I store 18-24oz of that in my freezer...

    Question :
    What kind of oatmeal did you eat ? Instant oatmeal that microwaveable ?
    2. How long after feeding the baby you would pump ? Like right away ?
    3. How long would you pump for ? I feel like I pumped for too long and there wasn’t any milk for baby for the next feed .

    Hi. Thanks for this video! Can you please tell me how many ounces/ml you pumped initially when you began and how long did it take to increase and by how much did it increase? I’m 6 weeks post partum and trying to figure out how much I should produce.

  • @tmyers2k4
    @tmyers2k4 3 года назад +5

    I’m just curious how much you were able to pump out after feeding baby? My supply is not great for my 7 week old. When I pump I get 1-2oz from left and 2-3oz from right during a pump for a miss feed after I’ve been out Andy husband is home and feeding the baby. If I pump after a feed, I’m lucky to get an ounce from each side. Are you able to satisfy your little one and still have enough to pump an additional 4+oz?
    I’m also finding when I feed my LO that it only holds her some days for an 1hr to 1.5hrs. If I’m lucky, 2hrs. Unless she is really sleepy and the nap causes her to go a little longer. Just trying to figure how to manage the feeding and pumping and making sure to have enough milk to do both. I feel the more I nurse and pump throughout the day the less milk I have despite drinking a good amount of water. I’m going to increase my water amount and try a few other suggestions.

    Hello , I’m trying so hard to keep my baby breastfeeding. I was breastfeeding him but when he was one week old I had to be hospitalized due to a kidney infection. And worse part is we just started quarantine so i couldn’t bf him and no one could pick up my breast milk . I went home after 8 days :( and have been trying my very hardest to bf him . He always looks away and fights me . He would eventually latch on but then give up within 5 minutes and fight me again but now he doesn’t want to latch on no more 😢I have tried to pump and just give him that but I don’t have much supply. I barley get an oz now . What’s your advice or thoughts on increasing my milk supply? Thank you ❤️

    Well put together video. You almost sound like a professional. This is all stuff I’ve tried. I feel like such a failure because I wasn’t as diligent with pumping and nutrition as all the women I see in these “how I built up my supply” videos. My husband works 16hour days 4-5 days in a row, so I have no help, we have 2 dogs, 2 cats and chickens and just a few days after my baby was born I was house sitting for my neighbors for 3 weeks and their home is high maintenance. I also have bad anxiety and even though everyone told me “just let the house go,” I start to freak out and lose control when the house is dirty, and that stress has affected my supply. I’m telling myself I’m coming to terms with not producing enough but even as I write this I’m starting to cry because while my body has always failed me at least I could help other people, which is why I entered healthcare as a profession, but now my body is failing my child and I just want to give up

    • @WildBison74
      @WildBison74 Год назад

      I’m so sorry you felt this way. I hope you’re better now. I feel the same way, like my body is failing. I have twins that I have exclusively breastfed for 4 months. Now going on 5 months I’m thinking of supplementing. It’s such a hard thought. I just want to be able to produce enough for both babies! Also it stresses me to have a messy house too, so it’s not so easy to just “let it go”.
      Oh yeah and we just sold our house and moved recently too. So that put a tremendous amount of stress on me. I had to have my home show ready while also trying to nurse two newborn babies around the clock. I would leave the home for showings because of obvious reasons so that was really hard too. Then of course the packing everything up and moving also. I also have two older children that I homeschool. I also got shingles about 4 weeks ago during the move (At 30yrs old!!). I am over that now, thank God. We are living temporarily in a very small space while we build our home (to save money). The list actually goes on but I’ll stop there.
      Stress is definitely a killer of breastmilk so moms out there, take a deep breath and try to relax. Now let me try and take my own advice and carry on making as much milk as I humanly can.

      I hope all went well and you were able to nurse. I was told to pump every three hours after my daughter was in the NICU. She was there for about a week. About the 2nd or 3rd day my colostrum came in and then my milk shortly after. I set my timer for every 3 hours and never stopped once. I was able to save a nice supply as well and finally stopped pumping after about a year. I also nursed on demand. I continued to nurse until she weaned off which was almost 3 years old. Yes super tough, but don’t give up. I was grateful for La leche league as well. And this is an awesome video as well. I have another little one on the way, 7 years later and need to refresh my memory.

      Absolutely! Nurse when baby is hungry, and pump when baby is done! Maybe an extra 10 minutes per side? This will tell your body it needs to make more milk. Steel cut oats are one of my biggest recommendations along with tons and tons of water. I haven’t tried these, but I know the body armor drinks have helped many of people increase their supplies. Best of luck 💛

    Great video and I appreciate all your tips! I do have one comment to make. When you said "it shouldn't hurt, baby isn't latching correct if it hurts or your nipples are cracked and bleeding." That is very very false. While it is a possibility, most first time mom's experience pain or cracked and bleeding nipples. I talked to my lactation nurse after my first child and told her I'm bleeding and it's painful as heck and it's very normal. In fact every mother who ive become friends with and talked to described the same issue with their first baby. It is painful for the first two weeks I would say. I bled plenty. But my baby boy latched perfectly. It was the skin on my nipples adjusting to breastfeeding.

    Massaging you breast and holding your breath at the same time also works great (for me) to create the let down, and yes pins and needles definitely.

    Also i did this trick in the beginning to help build my freezer stash...I pumped all day making sure to always keep 8-9 ready to grab breast milk bottles in the refrigerator at all times . I have a cutoff time for pumping at 10:30p...if baby gets hungry at night, I will make a formula bottle...then in the morning at 8a for my first pump session I will pump 17oz or more because my breasts are so full from the night before but this takes me 45 minutes to get all the milk out ....this helps me get a jump start on making refrigerator bottles for the day and any extra breast milk will go into my freezer...I did this for 1-2 weeks to help build my supply....keep in mind I’m storing away in my freezer any breast milk that exceeds the amount I keep in my refrigerator (8-9 breast milk bottles are stored in my refrigerator at all times)...so this method has helped me basically get ahead...NOW at night I breastfeed if baby is hungry...no more formula, that was only used for about 1 week, because I’m now able to pump 44-50oz a day and store at least 18-24oz in the freezer a day. My first pump is 45 minutes and then every pump after that is for 30 minutes. I also breastfeed on demand, my baby eats a lot, so sometimes I have to breastfeed in between feedings to help her go down for a nap. Also I’m only pumping 5 times a day, every 3 hours, for 30 minutes (except first pump for 45 minutes)...always pump until breast are empty and for an additional 5 minutes to trick body that baby is starving for more...I hope this isn’t confusing, best of luck 🤞🏾

Oatmeal, mothers milk tea, etc, and started pumping every 3 hrs (nights included) no matter is I had milk of not. It also REALLY helps feeling relaxed and thinking of the love you have for your baby. Definitely this won't work for everyone. Every woman is different and not everyone is able to produce milk. I tried everything and was not able to pump more than 6-8ml a day. What I want to say is, if you try all of this and still are not able to produce milk, do not get frustrated. You are not alone. I have had sensitive nipples all my life, even pre pregnancy to where it would hurt my nipples even just from wearing a loose shirt with no bra and having my nipples rub against my shirt for 10 minutes... so obviously sucking/tugging/stimulating my nipples will hurt no matter how good the latch is! I just wanted to say this just in case some moms are struggling thinking they have a bad latch, they may just have sensitive nipples.

I was worried cus my boobs didn’t really grow with pregnancy and I was diagnosed with insufficient glandular tissue. My mom had 7 babies and formula fed all of us so I was determined to breastfeed. I let my baby eat as often as he pleased and my boobs finally grew to accommodate the amount of milk he needed each day! It’s been 7 months since he was born and I now can also pump 5oz per day- not much but it adds up!. Breastfeeding is all about supply and demand. The only supplement I take is mother’s milk tea. Don’t give up! If it’s what you truly want for you and your baby, you will find a way to make it work.

Make sure you’re eating carbs and fats, stay hydrated with water, coconut water, Gatorade, and body Armour which helped me produce even more and then at the whole wheatery if there’s one by you there’s a supplement that helped my friend produce a lot lore milk as well. Its easiest if I use my "pumping bra" ( a regular bra I cut small holes for the flanges to fit through) it's a little tricky sometimes to get it set up while holding him, but we always manage to eventually, or I just get him to sleep, then hold the flange on one side with my hand. Sometimes he wakes up and I have to stop then start again after I calm him down again, but it has been working for me. :)
