It was really great playing that final with you! I'm new to Catan, and this was my first tournament, so ending up in a final with three very strong players (especially at that speed) was pretty overwhelming. I honestly struggled to follow what was happening half the time. Hope we get to play again soon so I can make better choices. gg :)
@@alexandernater6284 well the first placement by black wasnt technically a plow it took away his road settle, but the table def plowed him his settle spot on the 10 9 2 by feeding black the 9 10 11
It was a bo peng type of game. You get un-normaly destroyed by the robber at the beggining and slowly make all the good choice to take the win of the tournament. Well play ! Your the best
I start to see why DyLighted values ore-wheat-sheep setups so much. You can potentially win without dropping a single road with 4 WPs and army, or easily win with 1 road 1 settle and upgrading to 3 cities. In this game everybody else contested dev cards very much tho, and still blue was 1 round short of winning.
That's one thing I don't like about playing Catan with friends. If you play to win you kinda have to be annoying: offer trades all the time, extort, constantly undersell your position and oversell position of other players, etc.
@78i78i Yep, such a tedious game when you get half decent. VR is more strategic but often almost impossible to watch compared to regular colonist games (which are toxic but don't facilitate the endless begging bullshit)
If you do very fast timer tournaments, you also have to implement very strict VC rules. Basically, you should only be allowed to talk during your turn or when asked. Otherwise, you can easily disrupt other player's trades. That or no VC at all.
I don’t think Dylan was annoying, he was just under the pressure of the timer + wanting to win as well as trying to communicate with and talk over the other people in the lobby.
Are you a KIWI? I just finished my first ranked 10 games for colonists and ended up top 7 in NZ. This is all because of your content! I have only 43 games on Colonists! Keep up the great content!
Have to rob blue or black every time. They're both going to be hitting the 8 ore on every 7 and knight. In other words, can't rob the "partner" on 8 ore that will be fighting to protect it as well.
@@JohnSmithEx Well at 25:20, Dylan couldn't even trade on his turn because blue and black were still arguing. That's where it crossed a line for me. But it's not weird since in the bullet finals, pressure is high and turns are much shorter than usual
I thought you were gonna build a bunch of hype for the final roll like you used to, always creates an exciting ending for the viewer, but a good game nonetheless
8 mins in and I’m hearing madness lol literal insanity. Black preferred having the 9,10,11 over white!? Give black all 5 resources with a knight already played and great road path. Unbelievable.
Think you got super lucky here. Not going for brick port early (+incorrect/greedy road), not coordinating w table better to secure 2910, popping instead of trying to trade for second city, light blue throwing the game w incorrect monos, etc
i mean he also got super unlucky at the start. i'd say it balances out. there is no way for him to coordinate for the 2910 settle since the board basically agreed that (for whatever reason) black getting the 91011 is better for the board. i do agree the starting road was kind of greedy, but i also think in the long-term he should win that race if it comes down to it. i expected black to pick 91011 to start and to basically choose to either race dylan to the 1154 (both players have starting roads but dylan produces more road material), or point to the 92 instead.
Have a look at one of the Dylan's early videos where he shows how to play a road game. His road was correct. He needs to go for good expansions with his setup. After black's defensive pick, he doesn't want to waste any roads on that side of the board.
havent finished watching this but i have to say light blue is fucking troll. feeds black an early settle he should never get with his insanely greedy suboptimal second settle, allowing black to race to a central settle he otherwise would never have gotten with his terrible second pick against dylighted (the road brick player), and then proceeds to do nothing for the next few orbits and plays 2 mid-tier monos. we'll see if if my words bite me back in the end but as of right now, 22:17 in, i think he's throwing (not actually but uk what i mean).
i stand by my words. black also just became army bitch lacking city production by the end game. if you think about it both black and light blue's games boiled down to popping devs and praying they get the VPs. lol. imagine losing with 3 vps and 2 monos. that is a skill issue. black should never have been army bitch and should have traded towards a city at some point. im glad they both lost because their initial choices early game made for a really unbalanced board imo and if either of them won it would have rewarded technically bad play.
He certainly didn't play his pure OWS setup well. By helping black to get the spot, he pushes Dylan into plowing the sheep port. He should have made a deal with Dylan to secured the sheep port. He was literally a single roll away from being in a near hopeless spot.
10 minutes in and i already know u won cause damn your oponnents were bad. basically giving the game to black then complaining for not being able to do anything

This one was extra satisfying with the early attacks on your position. GG
plowed twice and pulled it out what a game
He wasn't plowed at all.

@@alexandernater6284 yup
That ending was sweaty. No glaring mistakes from Dylan. You maintained your win conditions and pivoted when necessary. Well played.
I came to the comments to say the same. He adapted to the actions of his opponents very well. Loved it. Especially since they gave black the middle.

He's pretty good, but the best?
@owenhollings1717 for sure his not, but with some work he Can be the Champion. Hes at the moment superior to the majoritie of strong player
This was a great game. Nice job, i wish you'd bring back the music :) it would have been epic with that last roll
agreed, vivaldi summer would've suited this one well
The bullet format was so interesting and I think it made you play better off your instinct - hopefully more in the future!
WOW now that’s a final! Insane. I never expected light blue to even be close.

Light Blue was rly targeting u i think. Bro legit tracked only your hand !
these opponents were hard focused on you and you still pulled out on top, very well played.
Fun watch, awesome game. I think you made the right pick in 2nd.
Tbh everyone was annoying this game, including you Dyl, but can't blame anyone as it was very high pressure. Was a v good game.

@78i78i Yeah the game is inherently a bit toxic if you are playing hard

Let’s go Dylan! This was such a great series of videos, hoping to see more tournament runs going forward 💪
Congrats on the tournament win! Well played!
wow epic comeback, defs thought the game was over after black plowed the 9, 10, 11. high skill gameplay

What a journey in the tourney! I don't want to spoil the game but awesome kids Dylan, keep them coming!
Let's go, DyLighted! Masterclass!
Very nicely composed
Well done! Great effort.

That game was insane :D no skipping :P
Yes new video!
Whats the prize for first place?
Dominos voucher for a large pizza
About tree fiddy
That was infuriating at the beginning; felt like targeting. Glad you won though
Incredibly annoying opponents
Black moves were nasty in the beginning.
Coordinating wayyy too hard early game.
Gotta be to make it in life and Catan
Why are they annoying? Because they are tracking, table-talk to their advantage, and are good players?

2 early 7-outs, and black plow and still pulled off the win wow
That was an awesome win
This was sick
awesome ending

I wouldn't say toxic but they definitely had a hard-on for Dylan.
Not really imo
